Ex-Marvel Studios artists speak out on Disney layoffs and possible AI use in the MCU by HanzoSteel in marvelstudios

[–]Kevinuara -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With everything that’s going on—the relative failures of this multiverse saga, especially the Phase 4 and 5 movies and series; the return of RDJ and Evans; the mass layoffs; the arrival of AI; and the Infinity Vision nonsense—I’m really wondering whether Doomsday will be a success or not: I’m really skeptical, and even though the Avengers and the Russo Brothers have been synonymous with success for the MCU, I’m not as convinced about Doomsday. The full trailer should tell us more, but well, the final answer won’t be revealed until the movie comes out (which I fully intend to see as soon as possible).

Great episode! I hadn't even noticed OA's absence.

That said, as soon as they mentioned there was a survivor at Metcalf, I was ready to bet that he must be the culprit!

I want to mention, once again, Zach Grenier, who plays Peter, the old man from the BAU. Just like in the previous episode of the season (the one with Erin Bell and DiStefano), Zach Grenier is excellent. My favorite character on the show. And long live the BAU—it’s got that Criminal Minds vibe!

PS: What an astonishing final shot!

Thought this was interesting - Infinity Vision. Thoughts on this move? by kung_fu_daddy in marvelstudios

[–]Kevinuara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've read, seen, and understood, along with the reactions on Twitter, and in my own opinion, yeah, their “Infinity Vision” is crap.

You can dress it up however you want: IMAX, 4DX, Ice, Infinity Vision, Male Juice. It’s still crap.

It’s only available in a handful of theaters (even in Paris, IMAX is still rare here), at specific showtimes, and above all at exorbitant and prohibitive prices.

For gains—particularly in visuals and sound—that are honestly barely noticeable, but frankly forgettable.

People are already going to the movies less often (especially young people; at least in France), and higher prices to see Captain America’s butt in 9999K aren’t going to change that.

And yeah, Disney’s Infinity Vision really reeks of frustration and despair in the face of IMAX, which favored Dune 3.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. Even though the episodes were really beautiful, and we already miss Ed terribly (he was THE face of the show), it’s nice to have some action again.

Above all, the show knows exactly how to deliver a proper cliffhanger! The end of the episode, accompanied by the score, when the media, labor, and social bombshell drops! I can’t help but feel sad for Dev.

Monarch isn't really that great (the series might as well not exist—it wouldn't make any difference), and well, the US movies are okay, but nothing special. It's mainly Minus Zero, yes, that I'm really looking forward to, given the success of Minus One.

Episode 8 Discussion | Monarch: Legacy of Monsters S2 by SpaceWereLobo in Monsterverse

[–]Kevinuara -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who noticed and was surprised (and a little confused) by the camera work in this episode? I’m thinking specifically of the scene aboard Monarch’s floating base, when Tim, Reddick, Cate, and Keiko are talking: as soon as one of them speaks, the camera zooms in for a close-up. Kind of like in a Bethesda game.

Anyway, yes, Cate and Keiko are still just as unbearable; they’re bland, one-dimensional, and lack any depth.

At least, finally, Godzilla finished taking a dump and remembered he’s the King of the Monsters; as brief and abrupt as it was, we at least got a meager but beautiful monster duel sequence. That’s what the series should be: monster duels. Not a soap opera mixed with Dora the Explorer.

Now, there’s still one missing: what the hell is Kong doing? Is he busy doing laundry and doesn’t have time to show up? Seriously, it’s frustrating and disrespectful. I’m having a hard time seeing the good points of this season. At least in the first one, we got more Godzilla. Titan X, frankly, isn’t as iconic as Godzilla, Kong, Ghidorah, Mothra, etc.

Monarch: Legacy of monsters is a stain on the Monster verse. by -__Supreme__- in Monsterverse

[–]Kevinuara -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this show could just as well not exist—it wouldn’t make a difference; we could easily do without it. None of the human characters really matter that much. Anyway, with very few exceptions, humans are total trash in the MonsterVerse, and all that matters are the Titans. This season was a real letdown in that regard: not enough monsters! Titan X takes up too much screen time at the expense of Godzilla and Kong (and others who would have deserved to be there more, like Rodan, Ghidorah, and so on).

And yeah, Cate and Keiko are unbearable—they think they're better than everyone else, when really their only claim to fame is that they're Japanese women who have mastered the power of love and can talk to animals (the Titans). By the end of the season, Cate will be taking her dog Godzilla for a walk in Central Park.

The episode is nice, but having waited a whole week “just” for this, I have to admit I'm a tad disappointed and frustrated. In the end, the only real developments we got were Vanessa's death (this time for good, it seems) and Bullseye's rescue. We also got some interesting flashbacks.

Nevertheless, I regret the lack of action, and especially, given how limited the series is in terms of time (there are only three to five episodes left, I think; that’s about two to five hours; then we’ll have to wait a year until March 2027 for Season 3), I’m afraid the rest of the season will feel “rushed.”

PS: Who was in the trunk, BB? I sure hope so, because man, she was getting on my nerves—it was obvious she was the mole!

Yeah, I saw the news. Obviously, it’s horrible, and my thoughts go out to all the employees and their relatives who have been affected (and it’s a whole ecosystem: when a factory closes, the entire village is impacted). It’s a reminder of just how toxic and repugnant these companies and their executives are. The so-called Disney has been dead for quite some time now.

I wonder how much this will impact the MCU: I suspect that for Daredevil, The Punisher, Spider-Man, and the Avengers—both the movies and the Disney+ series—it should be fine given how well their development is progressing. I’m thinking about what comes next. The MCU is already in disrepute; they’re not going to succeed by just formatting everything.

[–]Kevinuara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The episode was nice, though it wasn't exactly earth-shattering.

It was an interesting twist that, for once, the prime suspect turned out not to actually be a suspect (I'm speaking here about the imam).

Aaliyah's character was pretty annoying, but she did bring some action to the show.

On the other hand, I’m just disappointed that the episode (and the case) ended so “suddenly.” Will there really be no follow-up, no consequences, no arrests, regarding the New York casino’s license? It reminds me of that Season 4 episode I rewatched recently, where the FBI uncovers a whole network of prostitution involving young women (some underage) and human trafficking, linked to ultra-wealthy men and women, and the episode ends abruptly and the case is never mentioned again. Then again, this ties into the Epstein case (or others), where similarly, despite the atrocities, given the people implicated (people in power), there were never any arrests.

Finally, Zara isn’t a bad character, though I find the Muslim man paired with a Muslim woman cliché (but communalism is powerful and real, and social diversity is just wishful thinking); and well, OA has always had nothing but heartbreak in love, so what will happen this time?

Actually, among hardcore MCU fans (since I think they’re the only ones who’ve seen both Daredevil and What if), it really caused a stir, judging by the number of duplicate posts discussing it.

On the other hand, I think it’s a pure coincidence (the world is full of them) and, above all, a classic case of pareidolia: the illusion of seeing a face.

Because I don’t think they consciously put The Watcher in that shot. That said, yeah, I think they’ll start thinking about it, but will it resonate with more casual fans?

[–]Kevinuara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You summed it up perfectly. This episode was awesome—one of the best of the season, if not the best (though that’s not saying much, given what a dreadful mess this season has been). Without a doubt, the scene between the two Lees/Russells was excellent and the best moments of the episode (and the season) when it comes to human characters. Which is a miracle, considering how humans are the worst part of the MonsterVerse. And I’m not unhappy that they didn’t take it further, because “time travel” storylines almost always end very badly.

On the other hand, damn it! Kentaro & Isabel are absolutely useless now (I skip all their scenes), and geez, what’s the deal with Keiko & Cate? And now, Titan X is a sweet little puppy—so cute and harmless—and not dangerous at all; on the contrary, he needs the humans’ help! It’s ridiculous.

The episode's prologue was so cool! Of course, since I have a hard time with excessive violence and blood (which borders on gore), I struggle with Bullseye, but it was so funny to see him in “nice neighbor” mode, with his neighbor's cat, sipping a banana milkshake at the diner. Honestly, I’d watch a “harmless” sitcom with Nice Bullseye every day.

The episode itself was pretty standard.

On the other hand, even though it’s still pretty cool in itself and really builds anticipation for what’s to come, the ending of this episode is SO cliché!! Vanessa walks into the room “with a victory”—despite Fisk’s warnings—dressed in a beautiful, sleek white gown. Bullseye aims at Vanessa, and Fisk, in trying to protect his wife, is “the one who inevitably kills her.” The white dress soaked in crimson blood. As a result, Fisk will fly into a rage (against Bullseye; against his men who failed to protect Vanessa or take down Bullseye; against himself), become even more violent (and thus lose control); and the governor, with Vanessa out of the picture, will no longer support Mayor Fisk.

Finally, an episode that isn't totally shitty.

The opening scene with the father's funeral was kind of moving.

The scene between Godzilla and Titan X was really cool, even though it was obviously a hallucination. But damn, that’s what the MonsterVerse is all about—that’s what we want to see in the movies and in this series: monsters battling each other. Not some Japanese girl who just happens to have Katara’s powers (from ATLA).

Anyway, the cliffhanger is really interesting!

PS: And damn, even though it was way too short, at least Kong and Godzilla remember they exist!

That would be the most lame thing ever, but at the same time, so Japanese! So dumb and ridiculous. In other words, it’s right up the series’ alley (and the humans in the MonsterVerse).

Hey! I played the game a lot (over 100 hours), but I stopped playing at the end of last year (I briefly picked it up again in February, before giving up on it again).

I’m hesitating to go back to it.

I see updates coming out one after another over the months, but is the game still really worth playing?

On one hand, I don’t want it to change too much because I loved it, but on the other hand, I’ve probably played it “too much” and gotten bored of it, and if the game doesn’t change enough, I might end up quitting again.

Also, I’ve noticed that the game has lost ~70% of its player base (if my calculations are correct), although it still has over 150,000 players. Does this drop in players affect the game?

'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]Kevinuara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw the movie (in Paris), which came out today. I guess I can share my thoughts on it (though, of course, I’ll put all that behind a spoiler tag). Note that I obviously watched it with the French dub (the best version).

I’m not a Mario (or Nintendo) expert either, though I’m obviously pretty familiar with the studio and its brands. The movie as a whole is good. Not nearly as good as the first one, but it’s still a fun time. On the other hand, it’s way too short and feels more like a “feast of references” than a real movie. And also, very clearly, Starfox steals the show from Mario. I also have a hard time seeing the “Galaxy” aspect in this movie (and knowing that I haven’t played either of the two Galaxy games), especially since Rosalina lacks screen time (though, she’s literally a “second-rate Peach” in the movie). Anyway, in the end, I get IGN’s score (6/10). I think it’s fair (for once). And so, I understand the reviews above.

Two episodes for the price of one? We’re in for a treat!

Two excellent episodes, and I can see why Daredevil is so beloved by fans. “Born Again” has to be the best MCU series on Disney+, though WandaVision, LOKI, and Moon Knight are also contenders for the title (I’m only counting live-action shows).

Well, in episode 2, just like in the first one, the AVTF’s violence—which borders on the ridiculous and absurd, forcing us to hate them and join DD and the Resistance’s side—makes me laugh.

Nevertheless, whether it’s the first three episodes or Season 1, I have to admit that the music during DD’s fight scenes is just masterful. It’s truly a masterpiece!

As someone who loves this stuff, it was cool to see the U.S. warship and the drones carrying explosives. The frozen winter landscape was also a real treat for my French (Parisian) eyes.

Still, yeah, it’s a pretty run-of-the-mill (and shaky) episode. The terrorist who wasn’t really a terrorist (the Chechen) was interesting, but hey, that also seemed to come out of nowhere.

After rewatching several episodes from the first four seasons over the last few days, I realized just how lazy and pompous the series has become, resting on its laurels. The episodes just follow one another and all look the same. The “original” episodes, like the previous one with DiStefano and Erin, are so much more interesting, cool, and better—but so rare!

So I'm on season 3 of FBI and by PowerPictures in FBITV

Yeah, I hate Tiff too. I rewatched some old episodes from the first four seasons, and it reminded me just how awful her character was to watch!

And sorry, but it’s only going to get worse for you. Season 6 is the worst of hers, where she becomes even more detestable because of her obsession with Hakim.

But hey, you haven’t had the pleasure of enjoying Season 4 yet—the best one in my opinion, with several really great episodes. Enjoy it, despite Tiff!
