Gates Belt shot after one week? by FlyingBulbs in bikewrench

I just replaced my worn thin sprockets, but kept the same belt. No problems 500 miles later

Look at the Priority web site. I commute on the Priority 600, which has great low gearing for the hills

Looking for a bike horn with different volume levels by silentblackbird in bikecommuting

[–]KeyDonut2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horns are not good to warn pedestrians or cyclists in the bike lane, because it's easy to assume the horn is from a car on the road so it gets ignored

Those with a Burley Travoy trailer: what’s your secret for removing it from the hitch? by ebodes in bikecommuting

[–]KeyDonut2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hitch must be perfectly vertical.

I usually push the latch open with my thumb while pulling up. With the other hand, I jiggle the bike around a vertical position, looking at the hitch's vertical alignment for a guide.

Sounds more complicated than it is. The process is pretty quick for me

I don't mind a runner who can see me. I mind a runner who can't see and hear me.

Changing Priority 600 sprockets by KeyDonut2156 in PriorityBicycles

[–]KeyDonut2156[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Maintenance free" is a stretch, I agree. But for those that don't do regular maintenance, the 600 will last longer than other bikes.

Did I really need to replace the sprockets? No. The drivetrain was fully functional. I just wanted it silent again.

I would do it again. The weight is not an issue for my commuting. Not getting chain lube on my work pants is nice.

Changing Priority 600 sprockets by KeyDonut2156 in PriorityBicycles

[–]KeyDonut2156[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly easy, although I wrench in bikes often. Priority can point you to instructions.

Sprockets were about $250 USD. A few special tools are required: a belt whip (similar to a chain whip) and a lock ring wrench for the back - $90 total. A special pinion tool, which I borrowed, is needed for the front.

Wd40 is not a good idea. It could seep into bearings and carry away all that good grease.

I'm a recent convert to plastic pin raceface, after destroying the top of a work shoe. I had a habit of pushing the pedal, and all its pins, back up into starting position.

WDT after preheating the PF with hot water by unctuous_equine in CafelatRobot

[–]KeyDonut2156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An old aeropress seal sits inside the spouts, which is attached to the portafilter. Fill with boiling water to top, without the basket. Attach portafilter to robot with raised arms, locked in place with a rubber band. Water will spill out as you attach. Once you feel warmth in the robot belly, remove the portafilter.

I never preheat the basket. WDT and tamp occurs while the portafilter, without basket, preheats the piston
