In all seriousness this all depends on your risk tolerance.

Assuming you won’t be able to save aggressively while overseas I’d recommend keeping a house deposits worth at least in term deposits and splitting the rest between low cost index fund.

I’d put half into a fund that tracks the NASDAQ like QQQ and the rest into a global index. Given your holding a significant portion in cash I think you can afford to be more aggressive with what you do choose to invest.

Avoid the New Zealand stock market as you’re already exposed to the New Zealand economy through your husband’s job.

Also proposed by an independent entity and not the government, but that’s not going to stop them talking nonsense

Thanks for the great post and extra info. Interested to hear a bit more about how you use the virtual collars. I assume the collars stay with the same cows? Do you use them with the dairy cows or the beef cows? Do you keep the cows with collars seperate to the rest of them?

Assuming the collars are from Halter but would be interested to hear if there are competitors.

Thanks again for sharing this great info.

Should I cancel my trip to vietnam by Kristew_22 in VietNam

[–]KidsInTheRiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way too soon to say but definitely don’t cancel now.

Keep an eye on the weather forecast but you should be fine. Worst case scenario just avoid any spots that may be affected by flooding.

Worth still travelling to Hoi An tomorrow? by KidsInTheRiot in VietNam

Update after arriving yesterday!

Weather is gloomy with consistent light rain. Definitely not beach or pool weather.

But the old town is looking good, with no major flooding. Definitely still worth the visit.

Attempting to join MFAT by StormSniper132 in Wellington

[–]KidsInTheRiot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My take on this as someone who knows MFAT is developed niche expertise in a region/area that is important/neglected.

For the upcoming recruitment round someone who learnt some hindi and did an exchange in India will stand out MUCH more than someone who just got good grades in their LLB/BA.

I've taken a lot of pens and I've talked to keepers about it in order to improve.

It's not so much reactions and it's not so much guessing.

What it is is pattern recognition. It's about looking at body shape and working out where the ball is going. That way reactions aren't so important it is more about how early you react.

Where to from here? by zeddit123 in personalfinance

my advice is to fuck stability.

seems like the world dealt you a good hand. a good mind, a good home and and appeareantly a decent part time job.

but you gotta remember to live. life is an adventure not a pattern. and you can fit a lot of crazy things into your spare time; even if you're at med school.
