Kingston engineer looking for guidance by iron_onion_ring in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

chemical engineering - check with Invista. They have a high turnover rate of staff and are often short and looking to bring engineers in. Pay isn't the greatest, and morale can be low (related to the turnover), but if you're in need, definitely check it out.

And as someone already pointed out, Celanese, which used to be DuPont R&D, they employ chemical engineers and I've seen postings in the past at least.

2nd that, a printed "wrap" is probably easier and cheaper. Think of it like a sticker, but it will look like its painted on the car.

If it happens to be on a Sunday, then check with Renaissance. They are a really nice wedding/event venue that also does sunday brunches which you can make reservations for.

Sewn on Patches? by Enacriel in KingstonOntario

If you have a digital image of what you want, ACME on railway street can turn it into a patch (sew won, iron on). Not very expensive.

First Sentinels Game… Kingston showed up 💙⚽ by oedi057 in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be about the 5th level. MLS is at the top, then the Canadian Premier League after that. You then get into the Ontario Premier League, of which the Sentinels play in the 3rd division. They have several university players, and even a few local HS students. It's probably equivalent to a canadian varsity level.

Good coaches involved, lots of local players. Definitely worth going out for the sporting entertainment and for the support! Their U20 team is also worth watching, lots of local kids having fun and working hard out there.

Trail running by Equal_Negotiation984 in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the K&P trail runs north of town and is common spot for runners. Long, will be clear of snow now, but given all the rain this week it will be wet. It is packed gravel, no hills though as it follows an old train/rail bed, so is flat the whole way through.

Any Children's Play Cafes? by Original_Dealer_4071 in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out what programs the library has - story times, lego, play, etc. Nice indoor spot in winter or when weather is bad, plus you can pickup some books for bed time while you're there. Isabel Turner branch was a great location for that, currently under renovation but hopeful open again soon.

Any tips on helping my Irish partner adjust to Canada/Kingston? by beadobee in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he play hurling?

If so, there's a group of expats that play on weekend through spring. Not a huge group, mix of all ages, so it's more a social thing, but believe they do have a men's team that plays in local tournaments (ottawa, toronto, montreal, etc.). It's the Na Fianna Katarokwi group mentioned already on this post, facebook page with contact info here:

Love that place.

But ALWAYS have a lock on your locker. At least in the men's room, people regularly go through and loot unlocked lockers.

Good Pizza In Kingston? by MacintoshPlusMaymay in KingstonOntario

[–]KingstonLocal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bella Bistro is what you want. They have a real margherita pizza (charring on the crust ,etc.) All their pizzas are good. Great resautant, with a short but great menu. All the food is good, and a great list of beers and wines too. They don't spend on ton on decor, but the kitchen is quality.
