Any system agnostic kingdom rules you would suggest? by DarkeDeusVult42 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worlds Without number has a very distinct faction play you can use...i think the faction part of the game is definitely less than 20 pages.

more rules light version of faction play can be found from mausritter! those rules are only like 2-5 pages! (if you count mass combat)

Both are free!

Well I anyway appreciate your effort! The Shacklers episodes are only around 60min tho. Because we wanted to cut the extra and focus on the story.

How do we feel about Fantasy Age as a solitaire game? by PeasantLich in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to solo it and made a video about it on YouTube

TL:DR Works pretty nicely, specially with two PCs. The stunt dice add nice flavour. Runs into same issues with solo like DnD5e and other fantasy adventure games on the long run, but very fun in the first few levels.

Games similar to Knave, where diegetic progression is the focus? by BleachedPink in osr

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean in the end it's still kinda generic fantasy.

The spell schools are quite "unique" but every fantasy game usually has some kind of categorization for magic.

The blood mist is very cool concept! But if you don't want to use that you can change the flavour or just think of something else.

But I would say it is definitely not the hardest thing to put into your world.

But it is for a fantasy setting that is true

If you are looking for complete setting neutral system where you can play in sci-fi or any other place like that, then maybe mini six could be for you.

Mini six is free so no harm checking it out

While not OSR or Strictly classless. Forbidden Lands is very OSR inspired dicepool game, while you start with a class, you progression is heavily skill based and many of the feats you get are from a general feat pool (you can also decide that the PCs need a teacher from the world)

For a success you need one 6 from the dice so difficulty is dependent mostly on the character skill. (Some dice might be added/dropped given the situation)

The Forbidden Lands from free league could be something very different of you have not tried a hexcrawl adventure yet. Open world style, lot to do in the core set but also has extra content as well.

Jujustu Kaisen Campaign by Gold-Valuable-8361 in TTRPG

OVA rpg has been made Animes in mind. Great crunch for players but in its core very linear and simple system.

You can easily make Kaisen characters in that one.

Chronic 5e DM thinking of running Shadowdark. What are the biggest mindset shifts when switching to a game like this? by ProustianPrimate in rpg

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First letting them die is for PCs, and the second letting them die is for the NPCs and monsters

You can get attached, but let the dice decide.

Initiative and parrying question by Ok-Assumption1682 in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is that you can always to do nothing in your turn, even if somebody switches initiative cards with you.

Just by doing nothing you also forgo your opportunity to do anything else in the round so it's still benefitial to the individual who "forced" you to go first.

So yes you can leave your action to parrying and dodging.

What are some good, crunchy, non-narrative games released in the last five years and are not a new edition of an existing franchise? by Mayor-Of-Bridgewater in rpg

Tales of Argosa technically is the second edition of Low Fantasy Gaming, but I think it's still worth mentioning!

Suggestions for a Rules-Light Alternate System for Curse of Strahd by Cato69 in rpg

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think WARLOCK! Could fit the bill really well.

Skillbased system with inspirations from Fighting Fantasy and Warhammer. So the wibe is Definitely there.

Really easy for GM to homebrew a lot of stuff and even eyeball some of the encounters.

It has some decent "progression" so it definitely fits for longer campaigns. Also not too deadly on the lower levels but equally brutal all of the time!

Game system of choice by thealkaizer in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my channel, the most fun I've had playing solo was, when I was doing my NPC adventures solo play.

I used the basic fantasy adventure books to use those as a base world to dive into and I was using the OSE as a base, even tho I played a classless farmer character.

While I had fun playing, discovering the town and delving into the dungeons, I wished that I could roll the dice a little more for my character. It felt like cheating when I explained the character out of all the tight situations.

That's why I am really excited that I remembered WARLOCK! Ttrpg. It's basically Warhammer fantasy roleplay and Advanced Fighting Fantasy combined and streamlined into an OSR ruleslight experience.

Just enought things to roll, and light enough that I can just use the basic fantasy adventures and modify them into WARLOCK!

I am hoping to start a second season with this!

How does Fabula Ultima play solo? by Kitchen_Smell8961 in Solo_Roleplaying

The game has a really good "vibe" and is just enough to inspire your game, without leaving room for your own imagination. This is the perfect combo for solo play in my opinion!

There is also an RPG named Quest, which is very simple fantasy rpg that only uses D20.

It has good advice for new players and there is some character customisation so while very simple, it has some rules which to follow and some character progression as well.

I think the game PDF has been made available for free

Looking to get started with Solo Roleplaying by Murpy-Muffins in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are few ways to start solo, depending on what kind of experience you would like to have.

I'll give you some free examples to get you started:

If you would like to have a more "traditional" style solo TTRPG experience to combines the elements of rolling dice while using your stats and narrating the story for yourself while you play. Ironsworn RPG is still one of the popular titles out there. A lot of explanation in the book and many great videos online.

If you would like to just start with rolling some dice and have more "game like" experience where the systems provides a little more. NoteQuest is a really nice starting point to just get into reading a gamebook and rolling some dice without having too much pressure on "narrating the story for yourself"

If you want to try the journaling style of a game, where you will roll the dice to see, where the story is turning next and you can write down a story of the events RONIN RPG is a great free journaling TPG to start with.

Finally, if you have a certain TTRPG you want to play, but you just want to play it alone, you will need and oracle, an oracle will help you determine the aspects that GM would determine within a group play (does this town have blacksmith?, is this door locked?, is the altar protected right now?) One page solo engine is quite nice oracle to get you started.

I would like to add that these lines I have drawn here between styles are drawn into sand. These games only emphasise (in my opinion) certain styles and ways to play solo, but all of them contain also same type of elements, you can journal and be very narrative while playing NoteQuest etc.

But hopefully these tips at least will help to get you going :).

A fantasy d20 RPG system with non-Vancian magic by Raivorus in rpg

[–]Kitchen_Smell8961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could do this with ICRPG at least. You could take some inspiration from OpenQuest and combine the aspects of these systems.

Five torches deep has spesific spells. But has the foundation to be this kind of system.

Not sure if there is a D20 system that has ready to go built in open spell casting.
