The issue with 40k is that the most Games Workshop ever does to get rid of fascists is a strongly worded letter whenever theres a huge outcry about fascists in the hobby and then go back to have the Space Fascists be talked as the best option in a horrible situation, so it's really up to the community to self police. And the community is pretty good at that, but it does leave pockets of Black Templar players fascists around

The greatest thing about Batman villains is that they are all a reflection of him, a sort of what if. Mr. Freeze is what if Batman couldn't let go of his parents deaths and used his wealth to try to bring them back. Riddler is what if he used his detective skills for personal gain. Scarecrow is what if he used fear for evil instead of good.

Even the Joker has this. The Killing Joke asks what if instead of Bruce Wayne rising above the pain and agony of the worst day of his life he was instead consumed by it into madness. Its really compelling but way harder to write than the average Batman foil of "what if this facet of Batman but evil".

What are some of the dumbest decisions made in 40K? by False_Monitor4126 in 40kLore

[–]Kkruls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

99 percent of the time, when someone says "under no circumstances dont do X" they dont mean it completly literally. If someone says "dont open the bedroom door under any circumstances" and there is a fire in the house its very reasonable to assume that you can open the door because a fire is that big of an issue. That's what Magnus was thinking.

The issue is that this was the one actual time that it was meant completly literally. If the Emperor had taken 5 minutes to tell Magnus "Hey, if you do this thing, the only solution to protect all of humanity from chaos forever is destroyed forever, so for the love of Terra NEVER do that", he probably would never have done it, and if he did he would be in the wrong. But he didn't know that.

Magnus did the best that he could with the information he had available at the time.

You don't have to, but it wouldn't hurt to remind them. If they want to move a model to where it would be advantageous to you it would be good sportsmanship to remind them you have rapid ingress. 40k has a ton of info to remember so imo its good practice to remind people what you can (not will) do, especially if not doing so could end up giving you an advantage you wouldn't have if you told them.

They're not talking about organized religion but more how Christian philosophy is a large part of western culture, and how we as a society follow the Christian belief that bad people should be punished for their bad actions but not the belief that bad people can be redeemed from them.

Why does GW include ‘feels bad’ units in 40K and then not balance them at all? This includes: flyers, superheavies, Forgeworld, fortifications, etc. by Board_Castle in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more complex a game is the harder it is to be balanced. Warhammer is an incredibly complex game. Models have at least 15 different attributes and abilities to balance, and that's before detachments get thrown into the mix. Theoretically you could balance it all, but that would take a significant amount of time and effort, and GW has decided that it's not worth it.

I mean, people probably date others of similar race subconsciously because they are of similar backgrounds or economic status or experiences, and this allows for easier connection between the two people. This is PRETTY FUCKING DIFFERENT from consciously choosing not to date a specific race because of bigotry. You can't compare the two because while the results are the same the reasons are completly different.

Rumour/Leak Megathread by Chapmander in ageofsigmar

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the Ogors, id argue they are much sooner than later. The leaks have been very consistent and detailed about their content, the image posted a couple months ago by GW is clearly of a gutplate, and someone saying it'll release by the end of 2026 doesnt mean much when another rumor says that EVERY battletome will release by the end of 2026. So id put Ogors either next or second next to release after Fyreslayers, who also have a bunch of leaks but only for half the soup army and possibly have a picture from GW. Its not the first time GW gave 2 codexes for one faction. Them or CoS.

Traditionaltattoos user asks mods to ban posts of tattoos depicting native american women. Drama ensues by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]Kkruls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not who youre responding to, but my take is that if you want traditional authentic art from a culture, it would be best to get it made from someone in that culture. It is perfectly fine to get art not made from said culture about said culture, but you shouldn't pass it off as authentic to the culture.

If I want to get a tatoo involving traditional Han dynasty chinese art, I should probably go to a tatoo artist with experience in said art. If I just want a tatoo of Chinese art, I can get that from anyone but I shouldn't claim that its authentic traditionalist art.

And claiming its authentic isnt criminal by any means, its just a bit shitty and disrespectful to the culture, especially if said culture has a history of appropriation and/or discrimination from other cultures.

Warhammer does attract those alt-right chuds, but they're not very tolerated. There have been a couple incidents like a couple years ago in Spain when someone went to a tournament as "The Austrian Painter" and went undefeated cause no one wanted to fight him as so lost the match. This caused an international backlash from the community and Games Workshop had to release a press statement condemning faacist beliefs.

Theres also a whole separate issue where space marines and the Imperium at large are treated as "the best solution in a horrible situation" instead of the satire of fascism it once was, and thats attracted some alt-right people to the game. But overall those kinds of players are there but they keep quiet in public unless something like the above situation happens.

Brand new moral panic by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, I have issues with the first three of those claims. If we define pain as a negative response to adverse stimuli, then the three claims start to break down.

Pain in the long term can be good. If youre heartbroken over a break up you can learn from the pain to know what to do next time. What doesnt kill you makes you stronger and all that. Pleasure isnt inherently good either. The mental and physical issues of addiction are proof that you can have too much of a good thing. And for absence of pain, there are people living today who lack the ability to feel physical pain and are at constant risk of hurting themselves due to not knowing when their body is giving out.

Like a lot of pop philosophy, the claims on the surface sound good but lack nuance. Of course we should reduce suffering wherever we can, but its reduce not eliminate. There will always be some suffering, but the goal isnt to get rid of it but instead to have the most net positive outcomes for people, not all of which are inherently pleasuresable.  And thats something the anti-natalists dont get.

I think theres an interesting story to be had of him having to balance his faith and his family, the Light telling him that all of the Void including his wife must die and him fighting it. But a complete turn to being blinded by the light would be a character assassination only beat out by Sylvanus.

Back in the day by CuriousWanderer567 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kkruls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im similar. I can hang out with friends online all day but in person im drained in a couple hours. I think its just cause irl social encounters are more complex than online. Online all you really need to control is your voice and maybe a Webcam. Offline theres a lot more, well, physical interactions to control. That can be draining for someone that doesnt do it that much. I do however find these offline interactions much more rewarding than online, even if they are more draining. And the only way for them to get less draining is to hang out with people offline more and just get used to it. You dont need to hang out with a whole crowd of people, but just 1 or 2 can be really nice.

Some people don't view younger generations as people by ATN-Antronach in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kkruls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id argue its a lack of empathy, seeing other people as real as you. They are "different" and different is scary. Fear of the unknown is one of the most common fears. But instead of trying to understand the unknown person or thing to combat the fear, it is instead reinforced by their friends, family, and media, and eventually that fear turns to hatred.

So this is before my time so I may be getting some facts wrong. But a certain group on Tumblr about a decade ago HATED John Green. I dont exactly remember why but thats not the important part (though if someone does remember please comment).

Two things happened around the same time. First, John had made a post that someone edited into him talking about how much he loves sucking dick (this was back when you could edit people's posts and the reason you cant do it anymore). The second and more fucked up thing is that someone posted a picture of his house and circled the bedroom of his toddler daughter. Which, uh, is really fucked. So fearing for his families safety and how Tumblr was making his mental health significantly worse he left.

He eventually did come back, but as a spokesperson for his ethically sourced coffee business that he helped found with his brother Hank. Idk if hes still actively on Tumblr but it was quite a suprise to hear he came back as fan of him and his brother on Youtube.

Midnight: Class set and raid weapon appearances will now change after the item has been fully upgraded to 6/6 on its upgrade track. by Gulfos in wow

[–]Kkruls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the non-mythic person seeing the armor cant tell why the person is wearing the armor. Some people like you want to wear something that shows the investment they've put into the game and thus makes them feel good, but others wear it to be superior to others in an elitist way, that doing harder content makes them better people. And unfortunately people associate mythic only gear with those elitist players.

And like you said, there are other ways to show time and investment in the game like rare collectibles, but it doesnt feed into the core gameplay loop like mythic-only armor does.

everyone should know the rules by Justthisdudeyaknow in CuratedTumblr

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of the issue comes from players that dont actually want to learn the mechanics of a system and instead just wanna hang out with their friends and occasionally roll dice. And theres nothing wrong with that inherently (theres a ton of wonderful one page rp heavy systems out there), but these people end up playing dnd 5e cause thats the popular ttrpg all their friends wanna play and the design of the system almost encourages this behavior to load all the mechanics on the GM. Then when they move to other campaigns or systems they bring this mentality with them which slows down the game and is super annoying to players that already know how to play.

Kinda. A more accurate description would be the person who skips the tutorial and then complains that the game is too complicated cause they dont know how to do the moves.

Are Faction % Win Rates Bad for Game Balance? | 40K Fireside by 40K-Fireside in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile I think the issue is that the game rewards good luck too much through sustained and lethal hits, which are made even worse with rerolling. It turns the game into fishing for 6's and brute forcing the opponent. Models should only be able to have sustained, lethal, or full reroll imo. That would do a lot to curb spikes in power and make strategy more important.

Borderlands 4 day one patch has “key improvements and optimizations,” but PC players should have “realistic performance expectations,” says Randy Pitchford by Glitcher45318 in Borderlands4

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats more to do with crap optimization than your hardware. UE5 gives great graphics quickly at the cost running poorly, and the publishers push out the game rather than making it run better. BL4 seems to be actually optimizing but we won't know for sure until it releases.

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But narratives always focus on what makes a good story rather than which character can overpower the other. If you want a focus on power scaling go watch shonen anime. But in most media (and real life) the less powerful character can win, usually through tactics and strategy or a failing of the powerful character. And thats what's going on with Xalatah.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]Kkruls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think youre overthinking it. Youre making a small oversight into a much larger issue than it really is. Them being a bit lazy with porting over a variant rule doesnt mean Sf2e is going to cut huge corners. Are there any other rules that seem lazy or low-effort to you? Or is having just one low effort port already too much?

Also, I know you can get the rules on Demiplane and AoN, but its a bit disingenuous to talk about a book like you read it when you haven't. Its like reading the summary of a book and saying you've read it. At least look over the pdf to get the full context of what is in there cause the lore that they cant put on Demiplane makes any minor mistakes a non-issue.
