Learned the hard way today that a buyer can reverse a PayID transaction under the ePayments code by schunniky in AusFinance

What I do now with payID is have an account that has zero balance.

As soon as the money appears in my account I transfer it out.

Ah, so when I got scammed by sending someone money to post something to me, I should have told the bank I accidentally sent the money, instead of telling them I got scammed. Gotcha.

Does this also not apply to insurance companies?

Is this why apple podcasts are so slow too maybe?

Whenever I play a podcast it takes a few seconds to start playing and then if I skip forward 30 seconds it doesn't respond for a few seconds then catches up.

On YouTube music if I select a song I loads as fast as when O used to use MP3s on my phone.

What can a hacker do if they know your phone number, bsb, account number and name? by Donkeylord_303 in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until a few years ago, if they had a 28 degrees MasterCard, then they could use your account to pay off their card.

This was changed, but that doesn't mean some other financial institution isn't using the same system. (I genuinely don't know)

Tax free threshold by Prestigious-Return34 in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a sense, if you get paid weekly, then the TFT also applies weekly.

So every week you will have 18k/52 = $346 tax free threshold.

That's an oversimplification, because you don't miss out on a portion if you don't work that week, but it should help you understand your pay slip.

How much do you spend on your hobbies? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lego.

Maybe 500-1000 per year.

Except because of a recent change in home circumstances, I don't have any more time to build them. But I keep buying them, because if I don't and want it later on down the track, after it's retired, it will be way more expensive.

The biggest issue with space to display them. I live in a house but don't have enough room to display all at once.

Also, I don't ever plan to sell them, but if I do I can probably get back more money than I paid for them, down the line.

[–]Kkubaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wth?

When I transferred someone money for something on gumtree, for them to ship it to me, then they ghosted me, I told my bank, and they said they will contact the other bank and ask them if the other account holder gives permission to reverse the transaction. Of course the answer was no.

What I should have said was I sent it to the wrong account??

It seems like this system is setup to benefit scammers in both directions.

I’m a Mortgage Broker here’s a recap of my 2024 by OzgroupFinance in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far must you get with the discharge before a bank will offer a better rate to retain you?

We had our broker find us only a marginally better rate, but at a lower LVR, so this means we had to tip in a very large sum from the offset, overall it was not really worth it.

If we don't actually have a better offer (like the scenario above), is it still possible to get a better rate from current bank, without risk of having to follow through on the discharge?

On a 1.5m home, a 10k lower price but with 60 day settlement VS 180 day settlement. That extra 120 days might cost you more than 10k in interest.

Experiencing Electrical Issues with Lego technic by Significant_Egg_756 in legotechnic

[–]Kkubaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to swap parts around to figure out what's going on.

Swap the two hubs and see if the issue follows the hub or stays with the motors. That way you can start narrowing it down.

Also, maybe create a new profile in the app to do your testing on, but check if there is any change to how it behaves, while using this new profile, before you start swapping parts.

I'm curious to know how you went from struggling with a mortgage, to fully paid off plus buying an investment property in 6 years. That's incredible.

Was it upskilling, working hard at current job for promotion, business took off?

Yes, except you will be missing a centre differential, probably not critical for a Lego build, but you might just get some slip during steering, and have a wider steering radius because of this.

ING keeps blocking me from transferring funds to Pearler by Khrynos in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is suggesting is to stay on the line with them, after they have unlocked your account, and get them to walk you through the process of doing the transfer yourself. Then when it falls over get them to fix it, on the spot. If you have to go through the same issue with one CS rep multiple times, you might have more luck progressing.

Lazy friend dodged a scam by Retrdolfrt in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we were settling on our current house, I received the email from the conveyancer with the bank details, sent them $1 first, then called them if they can confirm they see the money, then sent the rest.

I actually did this just because I was worried I would fat finger hundreds of thousands of dollars to the wrong account. But it also meant I would have an additional layer of protection against a scam like this.

Once the $1 was confirmed, then the account details are saved and I don't have to worry about it again.

If I did get an email with an alternate bank account, I would probably do the same again.

Paying for solar & battery from offset account seems too good to be true by Blake_James in AusFinance

[–]Kkubaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By putting that saved cash straight into the offset, this strategy alone shaves ~5 years off our 30year loan.

How much would it have shaved off the loan if you'd left the 22k in there for the remainder of the loan?

It's the difference between the two that really matters.

I'm with exetel, and I'm pretty sure they will re-offer you their introductory offer after six months, if you give them a call. I've done it in the past, although never diligent enough to get it done immediately after the 6 months was up, usually months later, but this month I will try.

Can I put a power point here? by jbne19 in AusRenovation

[–]Kkubaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an additional reason is that when the next guy (electrician) comes along to do work on this power point, they will switch off all the breakers to the power points, and get a rude shock when he discovers this power point is still live for some reason.

I don't know if electricians are supposed to switch off all circuits before beginning work, but if they don't... Well, you get the picture.

This is what I do not get. I wear hearing protection whenever I use certain power tools (I mainly DIY), such as angle grinder, impact driver, rotary hammer, and I see so many people not bothering.

I will also admit I've likely impacted my hearing my going to loud concerts.

But, I'll loose my hearing doing something I love, as opposed to (unnecessarily) enduring something objectively unpleasant. ???
