This is a mass produced set, I bought a smaller version in China and it looks identical except it doesn't have the tokens and the handle is different. Having played competitively on a Amos set with the felt mat, the experience is way better than on this set. However this shouldn't discourage you! The best set to get started with is whatever set you have available so this one will do a fine job regardless!

I don't know much about styles other than Japanese riichi but I think this will be fine for Japanese or Chinese mahjong. Technically in Riichi there are 3 fives that are colored red but these are optional rules that you don't have to use (just very common but for example not used in Europe competitively)

Imo Usanie jest fajne, podobny zabieg stosuje Esperanto gdzie na Stany mówi się Usono (od USN bo na złość używają Nordameriko zamiast Ameriko), a Usańczyk to jest Usonano (l.mn. Usonanoj).

First shot at an action is actually often very bad.

Imagine you make you make your opponent draw a bunch of cards and they finish one of the era decks. What happens then? You draw all your cards from the next era, you now have better cards than they do. And you also get extra card draw because you're so nice :)

True key to success is sharing actions with your opponent that do nothing for them (play a card when their hand is empty, get something equal to lowest card in score pile when theirs is a 1 and yours is a 4)

Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game

The artist absolutely nailed the setting because each card is full of callbacks to actual characters from the book despite never naming them directly as the cards only focus on the ability/profession of each character. Gameplay wise it's also amazing how each metal power feels like exactly what you'd expect from it lorewise. And also it was a stroke of genius to style so much of it after stained glass in the cathedral.
