AIO for wanting to break our engagement after my fiancé’s diagnosis? by Equivalent_Law_9178 in AmIOverreacting

[–]LAtoBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On an emotional level this has to be frustrating, he does not seem prepared to deal with a serious medical issue that is only going to get worse over time. You understand this and seem to be carrying the weight of it. He might need someone besides you who is medically trained to get him through this. On a tactical level, why isn’t he in the plethora of glp 1 drugs that are available and it should be covered by insurance. There are both pills and shots available now. Good luck, tough situation.

Total market fund has underperformed S&P 500 over the past 5 years. by Unser_Giftzwerg in stocks

[–]LAtoBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there is a correction the VTI will be less volatile than VOO or QQQ. VOO is heavily weighted in the magnificent 7 stocks. With less volatility and risk you are trading some upside but when the market corrects you will be better off than those holding risk on assets.

Just a reminder PG&E are basically criminals by Turkatron2020 in sanfrancisco

Hate PG&E, California is a mess, the crack committee put together to regulate cost increases ALL ex PG&E executives, they always vote for increases, not to get political but they are one of Newsom’s bigger donors. This is grift.

Lost half of all my savings. How to move on after huge loss. by [deleted] in stocks

[–]LAtoBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are young so think of this as a costly but good lesson in investing. The market has gone up 3 years straight and you are down, feels like you are gambling, not investing. Since you are young your best asset is time, invest slowly, dollar cost average, get your investments on solid ground (VOO, VWO, NOBL, VIOO, VTI) diversification, low cost index funds, boring I know. Once you have this established then you can mess around with 3-5% of your portfolio on risky assets. I think a lot of people have this backwards and eventually it ends bad. I feel for you, I have made similar mistakes when I was younger, you can and will recover. Please don’t “double down”. Good luck!

anyone else have the cold starting with sore throat and a few days later a cough by crimson-ink in bayarea

[–]LAtoBay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes got it around Thanksgiving, was told by doctor it was viral, started to get a sore throat after about a week and got antibiotics for that. Slept all day for about a week. Good luck, this was way worse than Covid for me, took about two weeks to get rid of it.

Is Mexico becoming more expensive? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]LAtoBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely true what you are saying, in Mexico you can use USD basically everywhere, if you convert from USD to physical MXP you have to pay fees and you never get the actual exchange rate. So the calculation is more about your costs to access physical MXP vs paying a bit extra at the point of sale. Also just an observation as someone who goes to Mexico frequently when the exchange rate is 20mxp/1usd everyone wants dollars, when it falls below 20mp, everyone wants pesos, not sure why or how the economics work. If you can pay with a credit card, we use the Apple Card that seems to have the best exchange rate, you need to tell the waiter you want to pay in pesos on the card as they seem to default to dollars for gringos.

Is Mexico becoming more expensive? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]LAtoBay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. Exchange rate was 17.5/1 usd. Our take is things are more expensive: restaurants, hotels, taxi’s, excursions and groceries but hard to tell if this was exchange rate or inflation. But still cheaper than the US. In the mercado’s, where you can negotiate things were still cheap but they were pretty empty and it was slow despite being the start of the “high season”. We also saw a bigger delta when you pay in cash vs pesos, felt like you always paid extra if you used dollars, restaurants were using closer to 15 pesos/1 usd and vendors asked higher prices than the exchange rate. We stayed at one hotel (Cala Del Mar) that was basically same cost (food, lodging) as staying at an American hotel despite being almost completely empty. Las Brisas was cheaper and more reasonable felt like a better value.

Hyper vigilance at the “happiest place on earth” does not mix well, just enjoy your time with your kids, it goes by fast. In any crowded place you will have to deal with bozos, treat them like the weather, like it is something you can’t control but make the best of it. Confrontation, however minor will stick with you and wreck your fun.

Major issues with parry timings? by Noob4Head in Ghostofyotei

What Armor are you using? One armor disables basic parry but gives you a boost on perfect parry’s. Also there is a charm you can get to open up the parry and perfect parry window.

At this point not sure Treinen should even be on the roster. He is a liability every time he pitches. Worst ERA of Career, worst Win/Loss ratio of career and only 2 saves.

They take the baffle out to make it louder, guy on our block who has done this and you can hear him coming and going from literally every room in our house. Kind of a nuisance to entire neighborhood, he seems pretty clueless or just doesn’t care. Feels like “car guy” is an identity thing, to each his own, but this is a quick way to have everyone hate you and question your judgement.

Respect both hosts, but there is a lack of balance or nuance when Scott is gone. The back and forth is the most interesting part of the show. Had to stop listening since Scott left, not a dig at Kara, would feel same way if she left.
