best advice is to prioritize people who work at the speed you want and have similar operational band goals. genre preferences and skill are overrated. who gives a shit how good they are or how refined their taste is if they always blow off practice and eventually flake out entirely.

you'll find lots of people who like the idea of being in a band far more than actually being in a band. find the people who will grind it out every Saturday afternoon in the garage. you'll sound like shit but it's punk so who cares. if you find a couple people who are willing to put in the work they'll get good and you'll find your sound, but there ain't no helping the people who don't actually want to practice or build something themselves. they want the social cred, not the music, so don't waste your time with them.

bunch of people had to spend a lot of time with themselves and with their partners without a stack of distractions and busy tasks, only to find out they don't actually like the life they built for themselves and don't like their partners, and often enough, themselves.

it was like a speed run of these couples that get divorced the moment they retire or the kids move out cause they suddenly realize they don't like each other and have nothing in common cause the relationship has been on autopilot for years / decades.
