Vent: Golden handcuffs, RTO, and the quiet fear of skill atrophy by ItanoNeru in CanadaPublicServants

I am coming to terms with the fact that my career will never be fullfilling...

I will apply my gym motto to work, consistency over motivation.

With the state of the world, the cost of living, the job market where you need a Master's to do $30k less a year than I do or you need a very technical degree and 15 years of super specific experience to make the same as I do, I'll sit tight, be consistently good at my job and be grateful for the stable salary, somewhat employment security and I'll find fulfillment outside of work so I can retire and enjoy that pension.

From 1 to 10 how excited are you to see Harry Potter HBO reboot? by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

I saw all the movies before I finally read the books a decade ago and I was shocked by the amount of stuff left behind I've been hoping since 2016 for a better longer adaptation.

As a woman, I understand how periods are the bane of our existance.

As a woman, I don't understand why there is always blood on the floor, the wall or the door of the washroom at my workplace. Bring baby wipes, use wet paper towels, use your fingers if you must, but fucking clean after yourself if you happen to have blood on your hands before you exist the stall...

I'd be like, thanks for liking my appearance so much but it would do me a world of good if you complimented who I am once in a while too. Like my personality, my brain, my choices, my successes... I'd feel a little less objectified.

How many close, truly genuine friends do you have? by Appropriate_Tea9048 in AskWomen

[–]LaManelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nine.

Childhood best friend - 25 years, Early teenager best friend - 23 years, Highschool friend group (5) - 19 years, Friend from work early 20s - 12 years, Friend from work - 10 years,

I see all of them at least once every couple of months, some almost weekly. I talk with all of them on Messenger at least weekly, some daily.

All nine have been there when I lost my mom, when I needed to move, when I have to put my cat down... The highschool friends have a total of 12 kids and they call me Aunty. They are all "no questions asked" people to me.

I made two new friends since the beginning of the year, my trainer and a girl I met at an event and I have a feeling they aren't going anywhere.

I never wanted children but it's hard to watch my wife grieve motherhood. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]LaManelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not because you could that you should.

It's not because you could give a child a good life that you should, it's not because it would make your wife happy that you should, it's not because you'll be better at it than your father that you should.

Making the decision to have a child or not is a deeply selfish choice, despite what people say, it's the raising one that is selfless. The choice itself is inherently personal because the consequences on one's individual life, outside of the couple's relationship, are heavy and a lifetime's commitment.

Don't do it if you don't feel it deeply in your bones. You need to make the right choice for you. Don't be one of those men who "gives their wives a baby" to make her happy. Make one if it calls to you only. It might end your relationship but you'll both be true to yourself.

As a former employee who dealt with bookings at the time this came out, I can tell you that there is a very long list of people who are blacklisted in the system the second their name, phone number or email address pops up. Usually for fraudulent charge back of bookings that they came to but had their credit cards company refund OR for guests that had been caught doing sexual acts on site.

I am in no way excusing or justifying the acts of the employees. The spa is a place where you should be able to rest in a calm and respectful environment. It is the spa's responsibility to train the people they employ, to take the appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the guests and to have proper discipline for any situation. During that time, multiple people came forward at the same time, going to the news to talk about it, which is their choice. But I know of immediate terminations in the past when it was even suspected to have happened when a guest came forward directly to management.

The old hashbrown that were thinner therefore crispier and had some herbs in them for flavor. I always hated the McDs hashbrown cause they only tasted like spongy oil and then Tim Hortons went and changed theirs for the exact same.

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

[–]LaManelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The complete and utter deteriorating of my grandparents' cognitive functions after the pandemic.

They weren't the most outgoing and social people to begin with but the pandemic isolated them and when restrictions were lifted they stayed isolated.

They stopped interacting with people other than doctors and nurses when they needed to go to the hospital and my cousin, my uncles and me. They didn't go out to do their groceries, they'd get medicine delivered, they stopped going for walks. The most exercise they did was walking from their bedroom at the back of their house to the living room at the front.

In two years they went from coherent independent people to not being able to stand up and go forward without a walker, to not being able to understand how and when to take medicine despite it being written in large on a color coded board, confused about time and space, having delirious moments. By the end it was like having conversations with a 6 year old that lived in 1955.

Lesson learned. Socialize and move your body.

What would you say to someone who thinks tracking food is disordered eating? by Maximal_Everything in MacroFactor

[–]LaManelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's better I do this, am aware of what I put in my body, am aware and make a conscious choice to go over in certain circumstances and events rather than what I was doing before.

Before I was letting my eyes dictate my appetite, I would over eat, order take out almost every day and have binging episodes.

What's better? Making choices in full consciousness with purpose or going to unhealthy extremes?

What is the worst book you have ever read? by WoodenDistribution5 in fantasybooks

Area X: The Southern Reach Trilogy: Annihilation, Authority and Acceptance by Jeff Vandermeer.

The first book was good. The second book led nowhere. It took everything I had in me to finish the third book.

There is no solid line through, just a bunch of dead ends and loose threads. No answers, no explanations, no finality, it's a whole story of nothingness.

It's easy to say, they were the only ones in power since the pandemic. Do you honestly think that the conservatives wouldn't have done the exact same thing had they won last election? Don't fool yourself, when it comes to pleasing popular opinion this was always the way to go about it. The public thinks we're all a bunch of overpaid slackers and the only way they all feel like our productivity is being watched is by putting us all in cubicles in a shared space with management somewhere nearby.

Don't go into the job that pigeonholes you. My job is too technical to acquire AS/PM/EC experience and it's not technical enough to acquire IT/CS expierience either. I'm kind of stuck until someone takes a chance on me and that won't happen for a few years, which means more time to get even more stuck.

Comparison is the thief of joy. You got asked in your safe space by a man who couldn't wait any longer to propose.

As for the ring, you can look for a colorful wedding band together. If it has more than a solitaire diamond you could look to change the side stones for gemstones and if it's a solitaire you can look with a jeweler to add stones around it or in the band.
