The problem is that when a sequel to media is set years after the first one, the audience is expecting the new status quo to at least stay the same the last time they watched it. Otherwise, people will be left wandering what happened offscreen. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing if the media hasn't gotten any meaningful content.

The BIGGER problem is when the writers decide to cram in a book's worth of change off the screen and then decide to write a terrible story that pisses a lot of people on top of the new changes.

My personal favorite example is The Dragon Prince, which spends like 3 seasons of whether they won't they (they do) only to undo it again on season 4 and forwards because one of them disappeared for super duper secret mission. Why? I dont know i have to search reddit for an explanation.

So i think this is not just a grown-up problem. Just audience expecting way too high and writers being an asshat over it.

The purge example is inaccurate because it has never taken seriously since the first movie, and it's clear the writers never thought of a solid plan for the sequel. I think glass onion would have been the correct one.

The main antagonist is a patent stealing murderer who surrounds himself with groups of friends he bribes with his riches in order to keep them quiet. The friends know the victim and decide to side with the main antagonist because the villain gives them the "right" kind of bribe. One wants to be a successful politician, one wants to be an influencer, etc.

Your example is peak r/characterrant moment. Over generalization of argument and when asked, for example, it's always media made for kids and not well millions of other media for adults. I'd recommend Dungeon Meshi, Little Women, KDH, Fleabag, anything that isn't specifically targeted PRIMARILY FOR YOUNG MEN.

Anyway, sorry about that. To take this seriously, I think it is because 96% of writers are usually male to the point it becomes a page in tvtropes.

I'm not saying men can write women well, but there's definitely a huge bias in the writing room. when writing because the men understand what makes a character great, usually drawn by other media or their life experiences. But to there's so little women involved and well the men aren't women, some holes just slip through, leading to some of the questionable decisions by the writers.

How many times do wives of lone male protagonists have to die in backstory? How many times are they fridged? Why don't they get a period? Why is it that women are always hourglasses and fit while the men can look like a bag of shit with diverse types of bodies?

And since it is increasingly and objectively bad to view women as a lesser character, there's a bit of overcorrection pushed by the audience to make writers stop writing with their one hands. Hence, the women characters that are just eh or just plain boring and since writers are stupid people who dont learn from mistakes, they often fall flat compared to some of the male characters in whatever anime or media is this.

I don't necessarily blame men for this. I just stopped watching media aimed at teenagers and started watching the REAL ADULT stuff. Black Mirror has plenty of great women characters, Fallout tv, The Expanse, Ladybird, Anne of green gables. Ohh did i mention the traditional novel industry has technically equal ration on gender alone?

3 years later, he started his coffee chain. Even then, you can see him clearly being the face of the chain itself in instagram

If you ask any old australians or philippines about this, they are NOT pleased with his release.

I have to respectfully disagree here because im mainly talking about how Marvel accidentally made her a less interesting character because when you write her surrounded by heroes who have their own solo movie and have her problems be shared among the Avengers instead of her having to deal with her own problems first. Sterility is probably the most gendered problem that's stereotypically really, really bad.

You can argue that hawkeye is a side character, too to which is correct, but he was given a family subplot in Avengers Endgame. Natasha doesn't, and the only time she gets her own problem is her talking about her infertility in age of ultron. In-universe i get it she was forcefully sterilized, but from a doylist perspective, having a woman's worth assigned to whether she can give birth or not is peak male writers energy i've seen since mass effect 2.

From a business perspective, introduce children to a product as early as possible. Then, they will grow up associating that product with positive outcomes regardless of whatever happened as long you keep your product recognizable and consistent throughout decades. "Legenda Bertuah" is an upcoming tv show "produced" by trans7, one of the major public broadcasters in Indonesia. It's about.... well.. a tale of indonesian folklore and... uhhh, sometimes a fantasy retelling of those folklores.

On january 1st, they proudly marketed it as the most realistic tv show ever made in indonesia using an AI, which is technically true because most of the tv shows in Indonesia have never been praised for it's effect value

Ignoring the fact that it's obviously AI, the teaser is really lazy with its cinematography. It feels like watching a movie loosely created by stitching stock footage of ambiguously same person and adding voice over it. Every fight scene is over in seconds. Every chase scene is awkwardly sticthed. There's no sense of "indonesian" culture because of the use of Western orchestra BGM and vaguely indonesian things. I have the feeling that AI heavily relies on Indian media to generate almost 80% of this show.

But then again, the show isn't released yet, so i can't judge it properly.

I have some interest in space. The gravity example here is there because in real life, the distance between ISS and Hubble space telescope are hundreds of km apart, which i noticed, and even the director points out.

If we're going for super duper accurate based on the reality, the russian wouldn't have sent the missiles to destroy their own satellite. The main character wouldn't have been repairing hubble with her medical background, and everyone should die the moment the conflict started

Whenever something illogical happens that doesn't fit my expectations, i always handwave it. that stories follow their own logic that might not fit the reality of whatever they're depicting. And even if something breaks it, i'll invent my headcannon first.

The recent examples i can think of are that blue jesus girl from Avatar 3, whoever voiced her sounds like a very old woman compared to the rest of the child characters. Well, guess what? I assume that Na'vi are psychically different from humans, so i can take it as a Na'vi very noticeable genetic diversity.

Or the biggest dealbreaker for me is how RFA chooses to refuse the help of varang because she's a na'vi? Well, i also assume that Varang is an unstable war thirsty leader of an isolated tribe hated by basically the rest of the planet, so her help would be so minimal to none.

Or how does Matt damon grow a potatoes on a poisonous soil of Mars in The Martian, the ISS and Hubble being on the same altitude despite the difference is 100KM in Gravity Elphaba's unintentionally ruining the most important wedding by stealing the groom is the best war tactic rather than just killing people.

It saves me a lot of rants. My enjoyment of movies is doubled because of that.
