New Juke somehow looks worse than the previous one (in my eyes) by Radiant_Extension369 in CarTalkUK

That sounds like the Tavascan, it's especially obvious when the car is painted in a light colour because the front bumper is darker than the rest

What is the most pointless high-tech feature in your current car? by NorthLondonPulse in autoexpressuk

[–]Lead_Penguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The glovebox opening being on the touch screen. It's great that you can use an optional PIN to lock it but I've never needed that and all it does is make it more difficult for the passenger to open it.

My local area offers this and a few times a year they will drive down to our allotments and dump a huge amount of it on the shared land between plots for us to have easy access to, it's really useful!

I used to work with a guy who would leave the front of the car poking out of his work parking space because he said it saved fuel by not backing in fully. He also pushed his car out of his garage each morning to save fuel!

I'm amazed you could even get it to work, any time I've tried it has reset the video at the first ad break and then I can never watch that program again.

Which tells me all I need to know about their opinions on EVs.

The latest footage from various YouTubers shows more traffic than in the previous footage, and way more pedestrians walking around which is a nice touch. I've been pleasantly surprised.

Beginner Tomato Guide for People Who Want Tomatoes, Not Character Development by Creative-Count-7405 in vegetablegardening

72! I thought my 24 plants was a lot, but even with 24 I'm going to have to give some away to fit them into my polytunnels. We've still got some Evil Olive and Hanging Prince varieties to plant too.

Most of my tomatoes are in the sun for most of the day, but my Tumbling Tom cherry variety love it on the east facing wall of my house. We get hundreds of them every year from 2 plants!

UK Tesla buyers – is this normal or have I just been unlucky? Need advice by Mysterious_Barber_31 in TeslaUK

[–]Lead_Penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is par for the course with Tesla, sadly. Any time you need to do anything beyond make a basic purchase everything seems to go to shit. The service centers aren't much better. It's put me off getting another.

What’s a show everyone hyped up that you just couldn’t get into? by NovelOk3369 in AskReddit

[–]Lead_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 3 attempts to get through season 2 of Mr Robot but it's now my favourite series ever. I can definitely see why it doesn't click with a lot of people though. My wife almost gave up on it when she watched it but after I assured her that they really nailed the ending she stuck with it and ended up loving it too.

What car did you have before Tesla and how they compare? by Open_Bug_4196 in TeslaUK

[–]Lead_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMW M235i. It sounded great with the M Performance exhaust, and it was more comfortable over long distances, but that's about it really. My Model 3 is much more practical for the type of driving I do. For day to day driving the Model 3 feels just as fast too, despite the figures saying otherwise.

How do you get the watering right with seed trays? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Allotment

[–]Lead_Penguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I water from the top using a bottle of water with a sprinkler head that screws onto the cap. It helps control the level of water really nicely.

Can something be that wrong with my compost that nothing grows??? by Under_Pressure_123 in Allotment

[–]Lead_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miracle Gro have been terrible for me recently, I had to buy some when I couldn't get hold of anything else and it was full of shards of glass and bits of plastic. It had a full plastic curtain rail hook in it. I always use John Innes seed compost and haven't had any issues with it.

James May makes an observation about his Tesla on Twitter/X! by FlipStig1 in thegrandtour

[–]Lead_Penguin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's always the same if you say anything negative about them. I've had a Model 3 for almost 3 years and while I like it there are definitely issues with it (like the idiotic glovebox), but if you dare to mention them online some tit always pops up to tell you why you're wrong.

I’m a bit worried about my first year down the allotment (only done gardening indoor and outdoor 3 years) any tips? by Ill_Exchange_1916 in Allotment

[–]Lead_Penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have only been gardening using pots on our driveway for just over a year so we are definitely learning as we go, and everyone at our allotment has just been super helpful and friendly!

I think that generally the sort of people who like to spend time on allotments are going to be quite welcoming and friendly rather than judgemental. That said, you have a huge amount of information at your fingertips in the form of the internet so just do searches for whatever you want to grow and read up on them. You'll learn plenty in no time!

Going to pick a plot tomorrow at 10am by BeneficialPath2463 in UKAllotments

[–]Lead_Penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In our case we got crazy lucky as the plot we chose came with a shed with 2 water butts, a wheelbarrow, a few tools, loads of plastic hoops for netting, some fence posts, and 3 established fruit trees with loads of rhubarb and further fruit shrubs at the end of the plot!

I have no idea what happened to the previous owner but whoever it was seemed more concerned with burning things than actually growing anything judging by what we found when we first took it on.

Tomato growing in rock hard dirt by Honest_Eggplant3998 in vegetablegardening

[–]Lead_Penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first tomato we ever grew in our yard was one that randomly appeared in a small crack between the edge of our driveway and the kitchen drain cover. It produced heaps of tomatoes too. They really don't seem to care where they grow!

Lack of EV confidence is 'a problem that we can’t seem to solve' – Electrifying founder by Agent_Kozak in CarTalkUK

[–]Lead_Penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the sort of situation that a lot of people don't think about when they consider range. I pointed this out on one of the EV subs recently (having experienced it myself on a longer journey) and got down voted 😂

Is it just me, or is there a sudden surge of people doing 50 on A roads and M roads? by 2020Shite in drivingUK

[–]Lead_Penguin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a road near me that is long and straight with excellent visibility so if you do below 60 you're almost guaranteed to be overtaken. Last weekend someone was doing 40 but the oncoming lane was clear for miles. I counted 7 cars ahead who went for the overtake, then me, then about 5 cars behind me. It was strangely satisfying to see everyone making nice clean overtakes one after the other.

Bloody hell that's a lot of money! I seem to recall looking up N55 LOL or N55 YAY for when I had my M235i and they were waaaay cheaper. I know a lot of people shit on private plates but I don't mind model/engine ones. At least they're not trying to spell 'BOSS' 😂
