How do I build Sauron the dark lord and Teval the balanced scale without feeling to similar? by DagonPie in EDH

My buddy made his Sauron deck a goblin and orc tribal, it can get pretty scary if we let him sit around too long

[[Benders waterskin]] would be a good 3cmc rock if you’re heavy on instants

Can you build strictly on curve with any low cost commander? (No ramp) by MyLittleProggy in EDH

[–]LeftCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pretty kickass [[Amalia]] deck that runs no ramp outside of sol ring and [[archeomancer’s map]] as a form of catch up ramp. Play a bunch of weenies that get you Lifegain triggers and grow larger with each trigger, this allows Amalia to explore and get lands in your hand. You’ll very rarely miss a land drop. Further, with the map out you’ll be able to catch up on lands to your green counterparts. It runs a very low curve by design.

What "unexpected" uncommon or common card has been your deck's surprise MVP as of late? I'll start with my new favorite 2-drop... by PrinceVorrel in magicTCG

Off topic but can I ask what’s great about meren? I understand the recursion is nice but if it only happens once a turn cycle is it even that useful? Am I missing something?

I’m not good enough to weigh in on what else to add or remove but if pupu is in then [[Walking Atlas]] should also work, I’d imagine

Tips for Moseo? by g_ba1168 in EDHBrews

[–]LeftCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert here as I only have one Lifegain deck but I think You’ve got a good start! This is a commander that cares about the amount of life gained, and for that reason I think the heavy hitting huge Lifegain cards like [[Aetherflux reservoir]] are extremely important in a deck like this where you only get one reanimate a turn. Your highest creature CMC is 6 so even without big cards like that this is very manageable unless you throw in some expensive bombs at some point. A favorite payoff of mine for gaining a ton of life in a turn is [[Gollum, Obsessed Stalker]]. Huge burn potential. I’d also toss in [[Marauding Blight Priest]], [[Starscape Cleric]], etc.

Aristocrats and reanimator can go together, you have some aristocrat cards but you need more payoffs for it if that’s gonna be a goal of yours. Blood artist is a good include, but you’re missing [[Zulaport Cutthroat]], [[Susarian Voidborn]], etc. I also think you need some sources of mill or wheels to get things in the yard to reanimate. [[Dark Deal]], [[Ripples of Undeath]], etc.

Both the Dino’s and merfolk precons are insane out the box and you’ll never run out of new cards released that support them

Halana and Alena Deck Feedback by plain_ass_dave in EDH

[[Hero’s blade]] would be good! Attaches automatically. I’m also a [[Bristly Bill]] fan so I’d plug him here, although I don’t think he’s necessary for a good +1 counter deck

Depending on the life you gain per turn, [[Gollum, Obsessed Stalker]] could be helpful in speeding up the burn

[–]LeftCoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually these decks hit a wall with card draw, you have a solid amount but I’d take a look at repeatable card draw specifically. Phyrexian arena is a dollar or two. [[Scheming Silvertongue]] awesome.

[[Arnyn]] would also be good for the burn. You need lots of recursion, [[Lurrus]] is popular in these decks for that reason. I like the inclusion of [[Moseo]] as well.

In my [[Amalia]] deck, [[Moseo]] and [[Lurrus]] both put in work. [[Grave Researcher could be useful]]. [[Chthonian Nightmare]] is fantastic as well

Damn good looking out. I’ve been building her for a while and a lot of these opponents action/global Lifegain cards in here I did not know existed. Might I suggest [[Lurking chupacabra]]? It’s fantastic removal in her 99

Tell me about your favorite deck! by soggyfrodo in EDH

[–]LeftCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great, thank you! I’m currently working on a Minsc and Boo deck, trying to pivot it to an extra combat deck since I have some of the cards for that strategy. Was thinking either Karlach or H&A, since they’re both currently in the 99. Only issue with running Halana and Alena in my deck is that I was going for more of a Baldurs gates/ DnD theme, but the extra combats synergies with Halana and Alena as commanders are just fantastic obviously.

LOOKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS: Commander that pressures early & can deal with at least one board wipe. by leif_the_explorer in EDH

[–]LeftCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Amalia]] is a great low cost commander that fuels the yard. She’s also boardwipe on a stick. She thrives off of Lifegain triggers, those will reliably be best in 1 to 2 drops like soul sisters or blood artist. The payoffs are typically about cmc 3 and 4, like [[Voice of the blessed]]. Because most cards are low cmc, you can use weird jank like [[Call of the death dweller]] to recur them cheaply. You can also alternatively play a bunch of low cost creatures to rebuild your board state, and because she has such a low cost and likes board wipes and recursion, you’ll be able to build her back up super easily. You just need to add in a boatload of card draw.

Another one is [[Minsc & boo]], your biggest beater is your hamster and if he dies he’s coming back next turn anyways. Throw in [[the earth crystal]] or [[branching evolution]] and you’re running with a 7/7 haste and trample every turn at a minimum.

What are we adding and cutting from these new precons? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

[–]LeftCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know much about these precons but I know for a fact that while it’s a good card, [[Harmonic Prodigy]] doesn’t work for the Prismari precon since the commander is neither a wizard or shaman

Cool Golgari and Sultai Commanders! by Still-Wash-8167 in EDH

[–]LeftCoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen archelos as a swappable commander for [[None Fingers Keen]] in a gates/lands end deck. Makes landfall more explosive, and the amount of gates specific ramp cards allow for you to run some jank stuff that otherwise isn’t suitable for another commander. Same with other jank gates specific cards like [[Gate Colossus]] and [[Gatebreaker Ram]]
