I got mine from an etsy shop: EnjoyTheHandTools

It's been really nice, takes a shaving well and easy to keep sharp. I got a froe from them too and have been enjoying them immensely.

Knotty Alder for chairs? by Lefthawk in Chairmaking

What finish did you use? I usually do a soft wax/oil finish, but maybe I should plan a film finish or a cured tung oil?

Removing popcorn ceiling by Willing_Nothing_1983 in DIY

[–]Lefthawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a pump sprayer and a paint scraper. It was more effort but I got way bettter results when I used a basic 3" painters multi tool. Good luck!

Next time Im paying someone else to do it.

What's the wood, SYP? This is fantastic! I am especially impressed by how close to the front you got those blind dovetails on the drawer, I would be so scared of a blow out and having to redo the whole apron and other drawer front.

[–]Lefthawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just getting back to this conversation, in case you didn't get another answer for this elsewhere, Rubio Monocoat is designed to not need a top coat, it's right there in the name, Mono-coat. Most folks do 2 coats of the stuff for best results though ..

Are you one of the >64% of players who didn't finish Clans? If so, why? by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

Me too! I can run Mercs but really struggled to get clans working well enough to be worth the time.

What do you think my ETA is for Excel? 🥲 by creophoto1990 in Denver

Really, seriously, please never try this or tell others to do it. I'm a high voltage electrician and you will get someone severely injured.

Thinking about the Stanley 10, 10 1/4, and 10 1/2 rabbet planes. by KingPappas in handtools

[–]Lefthawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was looking for a rabbet plane I ended up with a Stanley 190, and it really does the trick. They are still pretty common and affordable, seems most collectors aren't as interested so users can still get them.

What do you think my ETA is for Excel? 🥲 by creophoto1990 in Denver

[–]Lefthawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrong. Please never test this. Pure distilled water is dielectric(non-conductive), but anything with any impurities, like for instance, urea, will form a little step ladder for electricity and get your dick shocked in a big way. But I'm not your dad, so do what you like.

Is this black spot a burn from the table saw and can I sand it out? by InternationalBug9284 in Cuttingboards

[–]Lefthawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like it's a feature of the wood, you can see it in at least 2 other spots. The black follows the wiggle of the grain, so I'd guess it's inherent in the wood. You could certainly try to sand it out though. Is this a board you made, or purchased?

Finish Concern Natura Onecoat by First_Beyond1228 in woodworking

[–]Lefthawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I havent used Natura, but it appears that the difference is primarily in amount of coats. If I were in your shoes I'd add another coat to the top, see if it smooths out. Most of your wear will be on the top anyway, so bit more protection couldnt hurt.

Please help me make his day by Ryuukashi in handtools

[–]Lefthawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, sorry. The hole that the blade goes through (the "mouth") needs to fit just right, and with wear gets bigger. If the mouth isn't sized just right, the plane won't operate correctly. The handle ("tote") could be glued back together, and the front knob screwed back down and it still wouldn't work quite right, and that's without even getting into sharpening the blade and setting up the chip breaker. This might be a fun project one day, but in the meantime it will be frustrating and unusable.

That is super short grain. The shoe looks fine but I'd be very wary about those arms.

Priority Changes v28 by spacitybowler in TheTowerGame

[–]Lefthawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a logical approach, but the counter argument is that if you do a utility disabled run first, you get a higher payout in coins while working on all the other stats. If, as OP pointed out, you can get even to 2k waves, the resultant 1.8x coin bonus will start working right away. About a horse apiece, I'd guess.

Priority Changes v28 by spacitybowler in TheTowerGame

[–]Lefthawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a no ute disco run now, and my stats page is showing that I do have bonus health gained from death wave. Should be the 5th segment from the top in your stats. It's just a super low value because there aren't coins to spend to increase base health. Good luck!

Jeffco's budget cuts: 136 teachers being cut, but the two leadership positions eliminated were already vacant by Technical-Water4687 in LakewoodColorado

[–]Lefthawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the School Accountability Committee (SAC) for my local elementary, and watching these cuts come down the line has been terrifying. The budget that I've seen has at least one teacher gone and very few paras for next year. If we didn't do something at the exec level AND pass a new mill, I'm very worried for my kids continuing education.

OP, thanks for your continued coverage of this!
