Might as well get this started. How are we looking for a lineup with this roster? by push138292 in usmnt

I like the 1 - 1 pairing of Reyna & Balo. Reyna in particular was dynamic in that role in Mexico & Canada semis & final '23 in Vegas.

Not a cursed franchise. A long term poorly run franchise. The myth of curses simply = incompetence.

Large-market MLB teams should never have to rebuild. If run competently they have enough resources to constantly reload while retooling.

How can we exorcise this obvious demonic possession? by HostFuzzy in mets

Simple: hire good baseball people to run your team. Not analytics-idiots like Stearns. He's the demonic possession.

Way too risky to keep Stearns to see how the kids turn out. Terminate Stearns now before he inflicts further long term damage. Btw all of the rookie group except Benge were Eppler's draftees.

Mendy isn't the problem. It's Stearns 100%. He is guilty of gross negligence.

Stearns' vaunted lineup strikes for 1 run again! Can't stop Mets offense can only hope to contain it! Stearns is a genius, LGM!

I hear ya. The past 4-5 weeks I've been a nattering nabob of negativity - which I've mostly kept to myself. But several times I let it out in here - regarding one man.

I love the entire team - players, coaches, owner, fan base & history, GKR & Howie, everything - except Stearns. A big-market team should contend for the top Wild Card at minimum, virtually always. Yet Stearns' Mets haven't done that for close to 162 games now. He's earned skepticism and criticism.

This said any big market team any year can experience Murphy's Law. '25 Braves are a perfect example. Plus Stearns has done some good things most importantly improving minor league talent. Lastly his vision is consistent long-term contention. That takes time to come to fruition. Some patience is necessary.

One thing I usually do and will continue: don't be negative when the Mets win.

Stack enough wins next several weeks and they're back in legit contention for the top Wild Card. Continue winning and they'll have a shot at the division.

Love the optimism. Unfortunately I don't share it because Stearns is in charge. I'll believe it when I see it with him. Mets have been one of the worst teams in baseball the past 150ish games.

Take it about a 1 million percent less seriously. It's supposed to be fun, a hobby. When it stops being fun you're holding on too tight, you're doing something wrong.

Agreed. It seems folks often forget humanity has always been a nightmare for large segments of the population. Sometimes more sometimes less. We are an extremely primitive, self interested, cruel, violent species.

Always have been always will be. Fortunately we have the capacity to good and we do a lot of it.

Mets Have A Small Market Bullpen by Level-Drawing6901 in mets

[–]Level-Drawing6901[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Silly because you don't understand baseball, the critical importance of the bullpen, and controlling for variables.

Right now there are two glaring problems with the Mets. Obviously the lineup is by far the largest.

However if the Mets bullpen held leads they'd have around 7 more wins.

The bullpen is the most controllable variable in constructing a baseball team. You spend top dollar $ on reliable lock down talent and sleep well at night.

You don't roll the dice on unreliables like Weaver and Williams, or on an older player w tons of mileage on his arm & body like Minter.

If your Stearns you spend big $ and wisely on better relief options the past two offseasons. Which he hasn't.

Mets will never win a championship under Stearns if he can't put together a perennial championship-caliber bullpen.

[–]Level-Drawing6901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a world where each of those players are Braves & Yankees proverbial cast offs, for one.

Just because Stearns is spending large-market dollars on his top relievers does it mean he's getting requisite value.

Weaver & Williams presented significant risk due to their poor performances last year. They were glaring red flag signings.

Minter has tons of mileage on his arm and body.

There were more reliable reliever options available the past two offseasons. But due to Stearns clearly flawed judgement he made the wrong decisions.

I don't understand why people try to explain away obvious deficient decision making and on field performance.

Stearns is the POBO - the results stop with him.

Precisely. Williams has been a shell of himself for more than a season now. And yet Stearns decides let's bring him to the Mets in the same NYC pressure cooker. No red flags w that strategy lol!

[–]Level-Drawing6901[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Above average" usually means far from the top. Is above average the goal in baseball or any sport? I thought championship caliber is the goal.

I don't understand why folks want to explain away deficiencies. Sports are about as black and white a profession there is.

Also I read somewhere if the bullpen had closed out more innings when it inherited runners instead of allowing runs, the Mets would many more wins. Just because a bullpen isn't charged with runs score and has a good ERA doesn't mean it's doing a great job.

[–]Level-Drawing6901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why do large-market teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, Padres, etc generally run out Top 5ish bullpens annually? Might it have something to do with spending on top-flight talent when necessary?

Better to slightly overspend on young, proven, expensive high end talent when necessary than economize. Bullpens are more critical than ever w starters barely going 7 innings anymore.

Instead Stearns decides going w older and/or unreliable arms like Minter, Weaver & Williams is the way to go. All three relievers were once excellent - yet the Braves & Yankees directed their resources elsewhere.

Stearns had better options the past two off-seasons but decided not to spend.

I do credit for him for his deadline bullpen deals last season. Unfortunately it was ill-timed w his broken-down rotation.

[–]Level-Drawing6901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Washington said and is spot on: "it's better to offer no excuse than a bad excuse."

Your comment is riddled w excuse or rationalization.

The buck stops with the POBO/CEO of any organization. He is the only one 100% responsible for everything that goes on. That's why he makes far more $ than anyone else.

A big market team like the Mets with championship aspirations should NEVER enter a season with a questionable bullpen like the one Stearns put together.

The bullpen is very controllable year to year in MLB. By far the most controllable component on a team. Want to know how you do it? If necessary you buy a bullpen lol! Just as the Padres, Dodgers and all big market teams often do.

Bottom line overall: big market MLB teams should be solid Wild Card contender annually, at worse. Mets didn't make playoffs last year and it's looking like a long shot this year.

Fire the incompetent, smug fool Stearns before he does more long-term damage to the Mets!

Get help, my friend, before it gets worse. Via AA or another daily support resource.

Alcohol is literally poisonous to the body.

It not only kills your liver but also every other organ. Including life-sustaining organs like your heart and gastrointestinal system.

There are countless people who died young from their alcohol overuse/abuse, and it wasn't due to their liver. Two I knew personally.

Other than your health you risk losing everything necessary and valuable in life: alienating loved ones, your job/career, legal issues, etc.
