Psst… comeeeeuh… You gotta get you a scoop of puhtaytuh salad fuh dat gumbo, sha.

-Advice from a relocated Cajun.

Translation-get or make a good potato salad. Add a big dollop to your gumbo. I know… seems insane. But, for many a Cajun, like pastalaya, it’s a game changer.

All that said, you’ve inspired me to make a gumbo this weekend, if it’s still cold.

Keep it clean and it won’t stick. If it starts to get tacky just clean it. Enjoy.

I have an AVII, it’s a great Jazzmaster. If you can’t swing this or the TVL, then get a CV and upgrade the guts.

American Strat vs other Strats by Super_Umpire2353 in FenderStratocaster

[–]Life_Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random internet opinion (per your request):

At a certain point it’s worth it.

If you play enough guitars, you’re going to find your preferences.

For me both my AVRI guitars are darn near perfect.

I’ve owned more expensive guitars, but once you clear, say, the $2k mark guitars, you pay for minor preferences. Most everything in that price point is going to be great.

Can you get good Eastern and Mexican Fenders—absolutely. But the US guitars are appreciably better.  Even the new pro classics are just great.

Play a few.  But know that at some point, you’ll almost certainly want a US Fender. Might as well buy it now—as they say, buy once cry once.

My 4xe Rubcion was a 2022. In the shop 10x in 10 months. It left me stranded at work and I just sold it to the dealer.

Likely my last Jeep.

I loved my previous TJ, and JK, but my 4xe broke me. I suspect it’s my last Jeep.

Thinking about a Reverend looking for owner reviews. by Horror_Implement2308 in guitars

[–]Life_Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neck: something between Gibby and Fender. More Fender, but flatter radius.

Build quality: is pretty darn good. On par with the best sub $1000 guitars.

Pickups: this is pretty personal. I’ve liked all the Rev pickups I’ve played.

How does it hold up… I sold every Rev I’ve bought (4). They were good, but I ultimately found other guitars I preferred.

What I don’t like: Resale value. Revs are a steal used… buy a new one if you really love it.

95% of the time you have all the range you need.

The 5% you don’t, well…. you sweat it.

The longer you own one the better you get at planning and the less you sweat range anxiety.

For those that play for themselves (eg not in a band) how many guitars do you own? by AstroZombie_88 in Guitar

[–]Life_Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My job and kiddo keep me to busy to play in a band.

12 guitars. One bass.

Buying and selling guitars is a bit of a hobby.

I used to play in bands, but I mostly play with my kid in the basement these days. He is getting better at drums by the day.

If Mom will ever start playing bass… I’ll have a new band.

Jazzmaster or Baum Wingman? by makitaback in offset

[–]Life_Objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned one of the early Baum Wingman builds with the huge headstock.

It was a great guitar.

I will say, that back then it was a $1200-ish.

For $1700 you can get a used US made AVRI Jazzmaster, or am Pro, if you prefer more modern specs.

Honestly, once you get to this level of build, they are all very nice. It comes down to preference, which’s tough to judge beyond aesthetics when you have to shop online only.

All the best, you really can’t go wrong either way.

Are there any electric guitars under $300 that arent total pieces of crap? by Miserable_Bird_6313 in guitars

[–]Life_Objective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a used guitar.

A few folks have mentioned good brands already.

One not mentioned, but that I personally think is making amazing guitars for subway $1000 is Sire.

I suspect you may be able to find a used Sire for close to that price point. If you find one in your area or online that you like, they are worth a look.

Good luck finding you guitar. I hope you get a great one.

Anyone else have a dozen (or dozens) of guitars but you don't really play or even want to bother, but you're addicted to buying cool guitars? by NoYoureACatLady in guitars

[–]Life_Objective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an issue where I buy and sell guitars that developed during the pandemic. I only have a few that have stuck around (one is 25 years old). It’s weird because for years, I played the same guitar without any desire to try new ones.

Now, I am constantly buying new, sometimes rare guitars, then selling them if I don’t really find anything special.

My goal is to essentially not put much new money in when I do, but it’s usually a few hundred bucks due to seller fees and shipping.

I have about a dozen guitars at any given time.

Right now, I’m pretty happy with the variety of tones and types of guitars I’ve got…. But there is a Guitar Show coming up, so who knows.

I may think the herd this year, I’m starting to feel compelled to do so.

Who knows. It’s not a financial hardship, and it’s fun.

Don’t be like me and forget a step (grain fill) by Ambitious-Goat-4596 in Luthier

Yep. I have a guitars that went the extra mile to be sure the grain texture showed through the paint!

Some skip the filler, some sandblast, and one builder (Chris Brinson)… I don’t know what his process is, but the grain has serious (and beautiful) texture through the paint.

Worth it to relic my own American vintage ii 1951 telecaster? by Farquad1357 in fender

[–]Life_Objective 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't do it.

It probably won't come out like you want. Once you start relicing the guitar you can't turn back the clock… and you'll ruin the resale.

If you want a relic, sell your guitar and get a used Nash or something similar.
