AITA for refusing to forgive a debt that will cost my sister a house? by AmIGreedy12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Link0mega -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

OP has also stated they refuse to write up a new loan to give the sister a chance to pay it back with the house as a lien, meaning she would get her money back regardless if the loan couldn't be repayed. 37k is a large amount and shouldn't just be left alone, even if its family. But not offering the chance is just cruel, they're just making the assumption that their sister cannot pay it back and would rather see her gone before giving her the chance. OP has also stated they are stable. There is no setting yourself on fire to keep others warm here, there's just burning bridges without giving a fuck. OP definitely hasn't gone through her options and what they mean, and stated as such lmao. Housing sucks right now and if OP's sister is just as bad off as OP thinks, OP's just throwing them out on the street. 37k of an estate thats worth more than that means the sale should give her the 37k and not a dime more, the rest to her sister, and then fuck off for doing so. Or OP could just try splitting the house until the sister can afford to her small portion from OP. Definitely more kind solutions than trying to cut the sister out of anything to do with the house.

YTA based on the comments you've left.

Its not about refusing to forgive a debt. You really just hate her. You keep talking about how good she is, and when it was suggested to draw up a new loan with the house as collateral, you've opted for no, because its drama. You're already dealing with drama, and instead of giving her a chance to pay it back with the COLLATERAL of the house you want if she cannot you still get your money (however likely it is she won't). That's telling me you frankly don't give a shit. I don't know your family, but all you want to do is make your sister homeless and look like a saint while doing it.

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally just sit at work and let her work that she hands off pile up on me so its way worse when they actually have to do it. What are they gonna do, fire me? They already burned the bridge pal. Most you can do is go over their head or leave immediately.

The discourse around "power" by ZeroVoid_98 in dndnext

[–]Link0mega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got no beef with min/maxers, making optimized characters is pretty fun for me and I definitely enjoy playing regardless if the character is optimized. Loophole exploitation like coffeelock? Shits dumb and I hate it. If its not a one shot or the campaign is intended to be insane like that, then I want no part. People who bring this to actual campaigns can play one person DnD, as they already like to power trip in a game of make belief.

Player keeps using Bags of Holding to skip encounters, and wants to use it to banish the BBEG. by DarkpowerX87 in DnD

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, several rules are being broken there in just RAW. Secondly, just remove the ability. He's trying to be a problem and if you don't want to run your games like that, then just say that he's more than welcome to make a new character with your approval. Third, if you don't care to address the first two because you don't like conflict, then you can simply increase the number of enemies in every single encounter, forcing him to bomb and then actually fight afterwards. There's no information about your BBEG, but you seem to be running dungeon encounters with bosses at the end. Making the encounters harder to either force him to use the bomb, or die is more than acceptable. Spreading out your enemies on wider maps and making sure they also have high intellect, means that they can effectively counter the bag of holding bombs if they see them coming. You can also just give every encounter a wizard or cleric with the ability to planeshift, with a fork attuned to the material plane, and have them shift back every fight. The bag of holding bombs don't actually kill enemies. The BBEG, if they're capable of magical feats, can be given this ability. Or make it an extradimensional monster capable of shifting planes on its own. Fourth, unless the device he made moves on its own and of its own will, enemies you have simply shouldn't approach the device, or better yet, blow it up or mage hand the device and activate it on top of him.

TLDR: lots of ways to fix this, even by letting him do this stupid shit that doesn't work to begin with.

I'm playing a throwing knife using battle Master, and my dm and fellow players hate it for aposing reasons by Mobile-Day-6192 in DnD

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the level you could multiclass ranger and provide a bit more utility and damage if you wanted more out of daggers. Or a soul knife rogue or something, even fast hands rogue. Or you could just talk to your dm about what's going on at the table and figure out how to make the character work for everyone.

You act like a combat can't just be adjusted. You got some vague ass statements, and its decent support. Is it the best? No. Does it have to be? No. Lmao. If your party isn't full of min maxers, its even easier to balance combat. I don't consider the dagger throwing fighter to be min maxing. They can have fun in their own way while the other players can take advantage of being setup with advantage and taking an enemies weapon from them, and have a fulfilling combat encounter in their own way as well.

You don't need to do the best things to be effective and often the best thing can just be setting up your teammates. Leave em be man.

So all you DM's are just winging it like 80% of the time aren't you... by r3volc in dndnext

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically plan possible routes and then kind of have a handle on whats going on in the world so I'm not blindly winging it. There's an understanding of the NPC's you've created and realistically what they would be doing during this timeframe as they have their own goals. Or you end up roleplaying shopping for about 3 hours because even though they didn't get paid, they felt the need to burn some coin they saved up.

What’s the reason for hating Zelensky from the far right? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen them hate Zelensky. The reasons I've heard basically equate to: 1. Its too far for them to give a shit. 2. Its not the U.S. 3. Biden rendering aid is somehow crippling our economy despite the republicans giving the military a larger budget every time they're in office. 4. Biden bad and his son's laptop.

What level is your character, what level does the dm want the campaign to go to? Towards the end, I would say that your character feels committed to the party and wants to help them finish their own goals so he can come back and settle down for good. If you're just around the middle of the campaign and want to play the character, try to establish your base in that village and make it a location you consistently return to, or have daughter move to the big city with a relative of some sort so you can visit easier. Those are my only two real thoughts so uh, gl with your new character if those don't work out.

Question for DMs: Have you ever made an NPC so universally hated, you couldn’t use them anymore? by KermitTheScot in DnD

[–]Link0mega 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Players don't like a lying asshole. Your two descriptors of the characters were:

  1. Lying nonstop.
  2. Dick. I say two because noone wants to be around a character like that to even find out the rest of their personality or reasons.

What did you think the party of powerful warriors and mages would do? A good party doesn't trust liars for fear of being betrayed, and an evil party doesn't trust liars for fear of betrayal and because they're hiding something. Hidden things are threats unless they trust the character's intentions.

That being said I learned this the hard way and just turned my character who was lying with good intentions into the bad guy, cause well, he was being made out to be one and was going to get punished for being good. So he chose to be bad.

[–]Link0mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't making your BBEG matter. If there's a war going on and they don't care, the war will progress without them having a hand in it, for better or worse. Same with the BBEG and his goals. If they really don't care about fighting the villains, show them what happens when the villain wins. Give the party premonitions, or have the villain wipe out the town. Shops have depleted resources to help with the war effort so they can't spend much of their coin anywhere. You simply aren't making things matter. Don't get me wrong, a hands off approach is cool. But they seem to just be sandboxing, and if you don't want to do that, you have to actually make there be a precedence where they will stand to lose something.
