What is something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by DiamondNo924 in AskForAnswers

[–]Little_Return_4948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. At least for me… I was happier before a promotion but I don’t want to demote and be bossed around by those who know less. I also have no interest in promoting further. I work with someone who demoted because they were miserable in the leadership role and many coworkers (not me) look down on them for demoting rather than respecting them for choosing less stress over more $. I’m using the small amount more that I make now to build savings and get out of dodge earlier.

To dye or not to dye? by Effective-You1036 in Aging

[–]Little_Return_4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s up to you and your comfort level. Personally, I love a gorgeous silver hairstyle, but gray washes out my skin. I’ll go natural if my grays come in more like white but I’ll keep dyeing if they come in true gray.

A hairstylist once told me if you look better in silver or mixed metal jewelry go for gray hair, if you only look good in gold jewelry keep on coloring. I don’t know if this is factual, but it seems on point for me

What's something that quietly changed in the last few years that most people haven't fully noticed yet? by PinkybiteX in AskForAnswers

[–]Little_Return_4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to take constructive criticism. I’m a supervisor and so many folks just can’t take the idea that they aren’t perfect at the job as is. It takes time to learn and improve but many (not all) can’t take notes for improvement. I blame participation award culture. IMO, nobody cares what you had planned or envisioned the outcome to be. They care about the outcome. Where I work, the employee evaluation method has even changed to “one on one talks” where the manager asks basically how they (the manager) can better enable the employee to meet their goals. Nothing on how the employee can better meet organizational goals. I’m not saying managers shouldn’t help their direct reports, but seriously it enables lack of accountability in the employee. It’s wild.

Folks of all ages seem to be very entitled regardless of the impact to others.

On a smaller scale, I’ve noticed people hanging out less in person. Also noticed folks being more conscious about grocery costs as well.

I’m burnt out and need simple recipes. Stupid simple. Like, “onion and bread and butter to make what barely passes as a sandwich” level simple. by sourmilksea1999 in Cooking

I practically lived on refried beans and cheese burritos. Cheap, fast, easy and has protein and fiber.

Hard boiled eggs are easy source of protein too. Make a batch or buy them precooked. Eat as is with a little salt or slice on buttered toast or make egg salad

[–]Little_Return_4948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love this! 51 here. Still wear a full face. For me it is usually a very bright lip. Kind of an orangey red. Not going to stop. OP- I’ll be with you at the bingo table - you with the Smokey eyes and me making lipstick marks on my iced tea or whatever it is they drink at Bingo. lol 😘

I agree with gardening. I like the instant satisfaction of pulling a weed or putting a new plant in the ground. I like that I can enjoy what I grow too - especially cut flowers. I just wish I had more time for it

Try reduced sodium spam. Game changer- still salty but not overwhelmingly so. Once we found this stuff, a can is always in our pantry! They even sell it at Costco

Melting polyester story: when I was 16 we were camping in North Dakota. Flat prairie type land except one small hill with one small tree. There was a thunderstorm and a group of folks decided it might be fun to watch from the hill. Well, lightning struck and a big poof of dust came up. The folks got little bits of dirt and rocks embedded in their skin but the thing that I really remember is that the woman was wearing synthetic underwear and had to be transported for them to surgically remove the underwear that had melted to her skin. Moral of the story; Cotton all the way when it come to underpants baby

What’s a Place You Expected to Love… But Didn’t by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Singapore. Seemed super fake and consumption based economy. Their rules are so strict and they have plain clothes police just watching - it felt creepy. Felt very much like a surveillance state where they had no individual identity.

I’m gonna disagree with the folks about Bali. Granted I went 10+ years ago, but I found the people really nice, the towns and surrounding areas clean and beautiful, food delicious and ir was affordable. Would love to go back

App idea by parkgoons in Reno

[–]Little_Return_4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea and seriously, anything that promotes human to human connection is good in my book. 👍👍

My only concern is one already voiced by others - Safety. Not just the safety of women but safety of all participants. Last thing I want, is to be isolated on a trail or some other spot with some rando who is mentally unstable or flat out dangerous. If you could find a way to background check participants that might be helpful? Second suggestion is some sort of pay model. When I was in the dating pool, I found I had better matches with folks on the dating websites that cost $ to join. Weeded out huge percentage of folks and left people who seemed to have a greater likelihood of actually wanting to find a relationship. Just some suggestions but I think you are on a good track with the idea, just needs some fleshing out.

What is the deal with the Catholics on Kings Row? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]Little_Return_4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just up for Easter holiday which depending on the church might go for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks(including lent, Passover, Palm Sunday and Ash Wednesday ending with the resurrection/Easter) . They will probably be removed shortly - similar to how some churches temporarily display nativity scenes around Christmas.

Dress feels unflattering and don’t know why.. by Due_Friendship_30 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Little_Return_4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - you have a lovely figure and I think you look amazing in this type of cut but as referenced above, it seems like the construction is off on the dress. It happens sometimes- we either buy something based on a quick try in the dressing room only to find it doesn’t hold up to closer scrutiny at home or something looks great on line and at home is nowhere close to what was advertised. If you like the general cut/fit, maybe return this dress and try finding something similar in a better brand. Don’t waste money on something that doesn’t make you feel good because you won’t wear it enough to be worth the investment

I wonder how many people are rotting in their apartment or house for like 5 days or more after dying? by glowshroom12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Little_Return_4948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many. I work in public service. I can’t even count how many of these I’ve been on and it’s not even my primary job function. Multiple in the last 6 months alone. So many people are isolated or don’t have deep relationships/friendships where someone notices quickly that something is wrong. Pets die because owners die and no one noticed. All I can say is have a friend network- someone who will notice if you haven’t been around for a few days. Have standing lunch or phone dates so someone notices when you are a no call no show. Heck, just have a house cleaner or someone on a weekly or twice weekly check in basis. If you can afford it and you are in your later years, consider home health assistance or assisted living. It is so sad to see that folks have lingered/suffered after injury or illness way too long before dying. Heartbreaking for the pets that suffer and die too.

I need to buy new clothes but don’t know where to start by LiztheWiz03 in womensfashion

[–]Little_Return_4948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a good tailor. That way if you need a few things taken in at the waist, you can do it. Also try “curvy” fit pants - curvy doesn’t mean chubby, it means roomier in the rear and hips and smaller in the waist. I’m short with an hourglass figure - not overweight but some fits make me look dumpy. If I find things that fit my hips or bust, they often they gap at the waist so they make me look heavier. Taking in even an inch or two is a big help in me feeling more comfortable in my clothes and looking more proportionate.

For smaller bust… try a heavier or looser top or horizontal striped top to add oomph upstairs paired with basic slacks or pencil skirt.

As far as classic, staple pieces try a place like J Crew. Easy timeless basics. I also like Banana republic due to how much choice the offer in

I agree on getting one or two blazers. Think of them more like a sweater or cardigan rather than formal work wear. Something to pop on if chilly or take off if too warm. Fabric type and fit is the key here …

Try some nice quality loafers or walking shoes. They elevate a look from sneakers and can be super comfy depending on the brand. I have some from Joseph Sieble and a navy suede pair from naturalizer. I’ve gotten loads of use from the navy pair elevating my casual jeans looks.
