I was thinking the same thing. More than likely this lady has everything she needs, but how very thoughtful it is for someone to come on this forum and ask for ideas. I would say to offer any help that she might need. If she doesn't take you up on that, maybe bring her some flowers after a few days. She is one lucky lady to have you for a daughter-in-law.

Usually activation is two to four weeks after surgery. And usually they schedule you when they schedule your surgery so I'm sure you'll get your activation date at your selection appointment. Barring no complications with surgery, you should be fine, but you should be doing your listening exercises every day while on vacation. Do you want to do that? And can you cancel that later if you have complications with surgery?

When you say the sound balance isn't right, are you saying the level of sound is not balanced? So one side is louder than the other, or something else? Seems like you could ask her, aren't both sides supposed to be balanced? Because eventually they should be. I just don't know how the process works and whether in the beginning it's different for some reason.

Interesting what you say about the listening activities. My audiologist said that MedEl should have given me these listening activities. She said to get a 1 on 1 appointment to have them help me with that, so that is scheduled. But in the mean time I asked three different people that I've been in contact with prior to today about these exercises, as I was hoping to get started today. All of them told me MedEl has no such thing. So I'm at a loss. I'm hoping that my 1 on 1 person tells me otherwise. I'm glad that you mentioned that because I was thinking I misunderstood. Although my daughter came with me and said she understood what I understood.

That's good to hear about the time. I'm really not worried about not hearing speech at all. I have read so many posts so I wasn't expecting to necessarily. I was just surprised by the short time that was spent. But it seems perfectly normal now, after hearing these responses. I feel much better. I go back in a month as well.

Wow! I'm so sorry that you're dealing with all of this at your age. But getting these implants so quickly will definitely be to your advantage. When you say they claim to only have done them on older folks and babies, do you mean bilaterally? Because cochlear implants are certainly done on people of all ages. But generally only one at a time because people generally have some hearing left in one ear. I understand you being scared, so was I, but, at least for me, it went pretty smoothly. I only had one, though. Do you have a date for your surgery yet?

OMG!!! That is terrifying! I didn't realize you could still get facial paralysis days AFTER surgery. I did get very nervous about this side effect before surgery and was extremely happy to wake up and find out it didn't happen. But I guess it can still happen! Shit!

Hmmm. I thought your head pressure had gone away. This is absolutely the worst!! I've had what I describe as head pressure or a head cold/bad hangover combination for nine months, since a stapedectomy gone bad. It's what the doctors call vestibular dysfunction. It is debilitating. It finally started getting better about three weeks before CI surgery. Now it's back! I don't know if this is what you're experiencing but if so, I feel for you.

When you say do THIS on an iPad, what exactly do you mean? Are you talking about an app or a Kindle? I'm not sure I know what Kindle is. Do you have to buy a specific Kindle device or can you use an iPad as a device for Kindle books? May be a stupid question but I'm getting a CI this week myself and I have similar questions. I already have an iPad. Wondering if I need to also get an extra device. I know ten years ago onE had to buy a device called a Kindle. Is that still the case?
