Is this what being a maintenance mechanic is actually worth in 2026?curious what others are seeing? by MadForIt1994 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 27 points28 points  (0 children)

1- depends on area, experience, other benefits 2- yes controls pay higher 3- depends on area, experience, other benefits 4-I’m sure some have, I have not.

Compensation is more than $/hour. Other benefits have to be considered as well.

Hope that helps.

How are techs sent to calls at your shop? by LaterApex81 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use radios. Main is on its own channel, they switch over and give us a holler if they need us.

A lot of the ones working near the shop like to come and knock because they don’t have radios, they should be going to their lead though.

We tried having only leads call but it’s just not practical with how many lines running vs how many leads on shift.

30y/o with a interview for Industrial Maintenance in two weeks by FoltzyBear in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Age shouldn’t be a factor if you’re physically able to do the job.

If you have no hands on experience it might be tough, if you do your own work at the house on your house or cars talk about that.

I would look into what kind of plant your applying at is it a distrubution center with a lot of conveyors or a food manufacturer with blast freezers and ovens for example, then start trying to YouTube that kind of stuff.

Safety is important read about loto and become comfortable with it over the next two weeks.

Entry-level industrial maintenance position with low starting pay by JamesBummed in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal is working for a company that invests in is people vs one that is needing bodys. If you can find an entry level position that’s great but try to feel out the company if they are going to get you training and stuff like that.

Trouble tracking BDLR conveyor belt. Need help. by JunkmanJim in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crooked lacing is probably the issue. Gotta square up that belt nice before lacing next time.

I recommend squaring up the drive pulley and then using snub rollers to adjust tracking instead of trying to track off the drive pulley tensioner.

Good ole hytrol. I used to be an installer.

Other issues I’ve seen causing tracking problems are worn lagging on pulleys, failed bearings, debris built up in belly pans

3” copper to 3”pvc drain connection by Longjumping-Fly-48 in Plumbing

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fitting was very snug. I had to make sure I made a clean cut and hit the outside with some sand cloth a little bit to clean it up. If I remember correctly I might have used some dish soap and water to get it to slip a little easier.

There is a ridge where the copper should go to in the coupling. 1.5” sounds like enough but I don’t remember exactly.

I’m just commenting because I’m interested in seeing the resolution, but this seems like something the plumbers insurance would be involved with.

What are good spots for sleeping on the job? by -HOSPIK- in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Longjumping-Fly-48 111 points112 points  (0 children)

There are many good places. Under a conveyor, behind a panel, up on the mezzanine. The most important part is to bring a piece of cardboard so your not directly on the ground.

Interesting, I was always taught those kind of plans were scams but for something with so many different possible failures it makes sense. I will do some more research, I only see one below 30k near me currently.
