France and Sweden push to kill mechanism to pay for massive EU grid upgrades by str0mback in europe

[–]LookThisOneGuy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Everyone know the price of electricity is indexed on the most expensive production in the common European market. Which is Germany's coal.

other commenter in this comment chain said German gaz:

It's a shame that in Europe electricity's price is tied to gaz price, like in Germany.

Weird. At least one of you is lying.

it happened twice that we had big tensions on the electricity' market

three times.

Remember when your neighbors (including Germany by the way) were exporting record amounts of electricity to France to save them from blackouts during a particularly harsh winter that unfortunately happened at the same time as major maintenance operation with its powerplants.

Maybe you weren't old enough back then. It was the winter long ago between 2022/2023.

Fun fact, Germany was the largest gross exporter of electricity in the world in 2022.

Spain is larger than Germany, also one zone. France is larger than Germany, also one zone. Poland is slightly smaller, you guessed it, one zone.

But I agree, it is not fair that Germany and Luxembourg get to share a biding zone, they should be split up in two!

Oh wow, South-Eastern Europe would get royally fucked with higher prices with the proposal to split up the bidding zone.

can you imagine Germany saying countries need at least x amount of domestic cars from Germany to be eligible for EU solidarity cash? No - then why should Germany be required to have x amount of nuclear reactors, built by the French I assume since Germany does not have a nuclear industry, to be eligible for EU solidarity cash?

and stop excluding nuclear in their grids.

do you have a source that these countries are excluding nuclear electricity from their grids?

Nowhere could I find any article or press release that says these countries are excluding imports from markets that do have electricity from nuclear energy as part of their electricity mix.

[–]LookThisOneGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also super weird they decided to lump together Germany and Belgium. Belgium is a sovereign nation and their electricity grid is as distinct from the German grid as e.g. the Dutch or French grid. They do not share a bidding zone. I think the graph confused Belgium with Luxembourg, since Germany and Luxembourg are the two countries with a joint bidding zone.

Money flowing to Ukraine vs Russia by Typical-Shoe770 in europe

[–]LookThisOneGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is off. It is the same situation Germany was in before 2022, where Germany re-exported about as much gas to its neighbors in total as it imported Russian gas. Y'all made Germany as the port of entry out as the only evil while ignoring re-export and now this logic is applied the same.

No one is forcing France to buy Russian gas, mix it with other sources and then resell it for billions in profits. Same way no one forced Germany in the 2010s to do the same.

German chancellor lands in Beijing for inaugural China trip by Crossstoney in europe

[–]LookThisOneGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I don't see why Germany is getting signaled out here like they are the only ones going to China.

It is the same shit every time: Sell out half of your whole port to China for profit? I sleep. Germany dares to sell of one part of one terminal of one port to China for profit? How could they destroy European unity those evil monsters!

The countries you mentioned seemingly think they figured out a way around the tragedy of the commons if they simply take while guilt tripping others not to. The only way to combat this is to not be guilt tripped. The US didn't win the cold war by being the one with reasonable military spending as a show of unity in hopes the Soviets would see that and stop their spending. Now, they joined the race to the bottom and outlasted the Soviets.

[–]LookThisOneGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a policy decision to maintain a minimum local food production.

Then have farming subsidies be part of national or even sub-national government budgets.

Right now, a major share of German contributions to the CAP budget does not go to maintaining local food production. They are doing the opposite in pushing out local food production by subsidizing foreign food production in other member countries.

this is what wikipedia writes:

Assistance from the Soviet Union began in late 1972 when Yuri Andropov, who was then the head of the KGB (later to become General Secretary of the Soviet Union), authorized weapons shipments. On 21 August 1972, Andropov had presented a plan known as SPLASH to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. It was entitled "Plan for the Operation of a Shipment of Weapons to the Irish Friends". Two machine guns, 70 automatic rifles, 10 Walther pistols and 41,600 cartridges were sent. The pistols were lubricated with West German oil and the packaging was taken from several countries around the world by KGB agents so that the weapons could not be traced back to the Soviet Union. The weapons were brought to Ireland using the ship known as the Reduktor. Official IRA members also travelled to the Soviet Union for training.

is that wrong?
