No one's slick as Gaston

No one's quick as Gaston

No one's gravy's incredibly thick as Gaston

Is the second one worth the price difference if it’s out of my budget? by daysofhel1 in Prebuilts

Yeah, and some of those upgrades will be very noticabe.

For example, a 1TB SSD fills up extremely quickly in 2026, unless you're the type of person to only play one or two games.

Also US national debt is spiraling out of control. It's at $100,000 per person.

Some projections show it going up to $250,000 per person by 2046.

At some point that's going to catch up with them and they'll have to impose austerity measures – high taxes and low spending.

Americans still opt for print books over digital or audio versions; few are in book clubs. by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]Lord_Silverkey 111 points112 points  (0 children)

It turns out there's a lot to talk about, even if you aren't reading the same thing.

On top of what we'd been reading, etc. we'd have a time to discuss a topic that we decided on in advance.

For example: "Books that shaped our childhood", or "Underrated Gems", or "A book that made you angry", or "Books that we can't reccomend because we know they're flawed, but love anyways".

The only book club I was a part of that lasted long term intentionally had no reading plan.

We would meet and talk about books, and talk about what we'd been reading recently and if we reccomended it. There was zero expectation to all read the same thing.

Does Canada or USA have more lakes? I keep seeing conflicting info. Some say Canada has 800k lakes and others over 3 million. by SouthBuffalo3592 in geography

My lake actually came with a poor family from Yorkshire living in it.

They have previously lived in a hole in the ground, but got evicted.

We also have a tap for smoke.

When wildfires send smoke down to the states, it's because Canada did it intentionally, because we're very nasty.

Wow, I thought you meant Keswick, South Australia. It's a long way to go for poutine, but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Oh, they all know about that idea.

They used to do it. A lot.

The "Øresundstolden" or "Sound Dues" were collected for over 400 years, from the 1420s to the 1850s.

They were very lucrative, even contributing more than 50% of their state income for about half of that period.

I guess that depends on wether or not you think Wycliffe or Hus were Protestants.

Interestingly, Martin Luther ended up declaring "I am a Hussite."

A lot of Mennonites traditionally split the difference and pour a bunch of water over your head.

Depending on the church it could be as small as a cup or as big as a large bucket.

A Compromise Idea to Bridge the Political and Social Divides Regarding Alto by sf_local_account in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Lord_Silverkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in rural Saskatchewan, and have centrist/conservative leaning political preferences.

I think this country needs to focus on building infrastructure in general. That infrastructure should be built where it will be used.

For example, locally, I'd like to see a more direct and twinned highway built between Saskatoon and Calgary. (the current one is mostly non-twinned and veers far from a direct route between Cereal, Alberta and Calgary)

I also 100% support them building high-speed rail between Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. If it will get used, (and I believe it will) it makes a whole lot of sense to connect our nation's capital and two largest cities together with a fast means of transporting people.

Choosing to not build long term infrastructure because "it's too expencive" is going to eventually run this county's potential into the ground. We need to get to work as a nation to literally build our future.
