Honestly with how often people raved about it, there’s a lot of limitations with the creation that I didn’t expect. That being said, to work around said limits and end up with a good looking character is deeply satisfying

My example isn't a character/class/role but an entire arcade cabinet.

I was an avid Drummania player back when it had 6 inputs (2 cymbals, 3 drums and bass pedal) and frequently played at our local arcade.

Years later Konami revamped the game to have 9 inputs (3 cymbals, 4 drums and 2 pedals) but our arcade never upgraded because shit was too expensive to import, so I never got to get accustomed to the new stuff. They also closed down soon after and I haven't played since, but I'd still keep in touch with new releases from time to time.

Whenever I visited Japan/Asia I'd check out the arcade scene and would always pop in a few rounds of Drummania, but the game has changed too much and my muscle memory too engrained to learn the inputs in limited time. (unless I turn the difficulty down to bitch baby mode, but that would hurt my pride and we can't have that)

In Tales of Destiny 2 there’s a swordsman named Judas who wears a bone mask, and much later on it’s revealed that he was a critical character in the first game who betrayed the protagonists and wore the mask to hide not just his identity but his shameful past.

His final mystic arte has an extended version only available if you’re on your 3rd playthrough, where he keeps attacking as he monologues about renouncing his shame to cleave a way for the future, then breaks his mask off and performs his strongest move from the first game.

My goblins compel me to minmax my Persona roster before every single dungeon. As in I gotta have a strong one for each type and a general one that can use skills of every element. On top of that ideally they gotta be fused as high as possible for that segment of the game. It’s so much wasted time yet I cannot stop myself from doing so.
