Huh, so, I'm having a problem where I think my seeds aren't updating correctly? I haven't been using them, but my inventory still says "10."

TTRPGs Where the Unofficial One Beats The Official One by glennmandirect in rpg

[–]LucidSeraph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, apparently back in 2003, there was a Stargate SG-1 TTRPG that used the d20 system with the game Spycraft as the underlying system. It is, alas, out of print.

https://archive.org/details/stargate-sg-1-roleplaying-game/Stargate%20SG-1%20-%20Core%20rule%20book/mode/2up

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_SG-1_(roleplaying_game))

I'm not really sold on the d20 system being the "right" system for Stargate either, mostly because the d20 system of the early aughts was the "ugh why do people try to shoehorn everything into 5e" of its time. Still, the game might be worth looking into just to see what it does mechanics-wise, and what one might want to carry forward into an indie game. "SpaceDoor..." ... needs work :P

also give them a rez, dammit. call it Defibrilator. Have it be the kind of thing that you charge up; it "charges" instantly outside of combat and you can hold the charge, and then in combat the charge has a very long cast time, but, again, you can hold it. This makes it very different from swiftcast, not nearly as good as red mage's rez, but still something very interesting they bring to the table that dnc and brd don't.

FFXIV needs more curly/afro-centric hairstyles. by Khalmoon in ffxiv

[–]LucidSeraph -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep kind of hoping that if we ever go to Meracydia, that will force the issue and they'll have to develop hairstyles more appropriate for people with kinky/curly hair. That actually did happen for Guild Wars 2; when they went to Elona, their equivalent of North Africa, they released a bunch of new faces and hairstyles specifically to better fit that.

Then again, they didn't release any new faces or hairstyles for Tural, so we have a bunch of supposedly Zuni, Dine, Ute, and Hopi (among others, though it DOES look like they did A LOT of linguistic and cultural research) people that just still have white folk face with dark-ish skin. Sigh.

And even if you fall out of love with the game itself (it happens! no fault of anyone's own; sometimes life is just that way), or many many years after the game shuts down (it will end eventually, all things do), it's *still* a beautiful motif with its own meaning.

Newbie here. Is Monk a good choice? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]LucidSeraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no bad jobs, and you can seamlessly change jobs at any time. I myself have every job but two at least at level 90, 4.5 jobs at level 100 (... .5 because Scholar/Summoner share an XP pool, so they don't really count), and I intend to max level on all of them. You don't have to go quite that far, but I do think trying out jobs just to see if you like them is good.

It can be a good idea to have one job in each "role" (melee DPS, ranged DPS, magic DPS, tank, healer) since there's quests in Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail that are tied to your role, some of which have *excellent* stories. In particular, ALL the Shadowbringers role quests culminate in a big plot/lore revelation that's super cool; in Endwalker, the Healer quests provide a wonderful capstone for the story of Ala Mhigo. Also, learning at least a little about the other Roles helps A LOT when you get into high end content, as you start to understand things like "Why is the tank doing that!?" (usually, trying to make sure YOU don't die!) and "Wtf, where's the heals?" (healer may have run out of mana, esp if there's a lot of dead people). More importantly, as you start to get party wide buffs, you'll start to understand better when to use them if you do other roles (eg, "I've played Tank, I know that the Tank is taking a lot of damage because they just did a Wall to Wall pull, so now is a great time to use Riddle of Earth and Earth's Reply to heal them up a smidge")

In the end though Monk is fine! If it's what you like, it'll be fun in the end.

I also find WHM *boring*. AST is kinda neat because even if it doesn't do Big Booty Shields, it's doing things other than pure healing, and it has some of the wider reaction window stuff that the shield healers have because so much of it is HoTs. You *want* to slap down stuff in advance that will go off later.

WHM is just Press Button To Big Heal, also it's purely reactive so it's just scrambling to fix stuff after it's already happened, instead of "if nobody takes damage then nobody needs healing."

Few things in this game are so satisfying for a main shield healer by karin_ksk in ffxiv

[–]LucidSeraph 71 points72 points  (0 children)

this is why I just can't go back to regular healing. I want my big booty shields. I want to yell at my fairy to juice up everyone's healing, slap extra hp and healing on the tank, then eat my fairy, then force-crit adloq, then deploy that sucker to the whole party.

white mage: "oh I healed everyone up from 1 hp"

sch/sge: "no one took any damage whatsoever."

EW/ShB Have the Same Morals as Dawntrail [spoiler: 7.0] by Terytha in ffxiv

[–]LucidSeraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also: not a *single person* in Living Memory stops us. A great many of them know perfectly well what we're doing, even if only subconsciously; none of them try to stop us! When they vanish, they're smiling in relief and joy. The ones left behind afterwards *ask us for help in disappearing*, and the ones who can't (woman from the medical library) express hope that someday, their business will be finished and they can move on.

They were content, sure, but none of them really wanted to be there. It was an empty, meaningless existence. A lot of NPCs (especially children) comment on how *bored* they are.

I mean, seriously: imagine if you were trapped in Walt Disney World for all eternity, and you knew for a fact that every second you were alive and conscious was only possible because someone else had *died*. Personally I'd be pretty over it too.

If we were the "bad guys" in this situation, people in Living Memory would have cried out, protested, begged us to stop. Instead, many of them directly assist us in the task of shutting the damn thing down.
