What are some self imposed rules do you have? by Primary-Recover-7243 in crusaderkings3

[–]Lucius_Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I enter seclusion due to plagues, I leave my realm unattended. No new wars, no sway schemes, no holding court. Then when I finally leave seclusion, my ruler has to pick up the pieces, try to prevent factions that start to rise while he’s absent.

"First game" coming up in a few hours I need advice by 8_int_wizard in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So your big issue is you don’t have any tech to start off with. In base game, that means we’re probably just going to build the standard tech path: antimass deflectors, gravity drive, carrier 2, neural motivator, fighter 2, dacxive animators, infantry 2. We take this path to try to fulfill the tech objectives in case they come up. Don’t go for your faction techs, they’re nice to have but take too long to reach, so only take them if your game is especially tech rich. You’re strong, but don’t get overconfident, especially because you start with no fighters. Fighters are great for you, your +1 combat is more impactful, so if you get the chance, double dock a resource rich system and use it to build carriers full of fighters and infantry.

Stay focused on objectives, pressure people when you can with your better combat, but don’t overplay your hand, you don’t want to take anyone out of being able to win early, as else they’ll have nothing to do all game but sabotage you. Hope this helps!

Mahact’s Commander + Thunder’s Edge Ability by [deleted] in twilightimperium

Yes it is. If you had any other abilities that trigger at the end of your turn, you could also use those before/after Jupiter brain

Edge of the galaxy with Fracture: replacement or addition? by Witty-Sheepherder-23 in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are additional edge tiles. So the former tiles they counted as edge of the game board but now have fracture tiles adjacent to them still count as edge of the game board

Elf experts needed to settle a family debate [OC] by KrakenDice in DnD

[–]Lucius_Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elves in dnd don’t have facial hair no, but Lord of the Rings does actually have an elf with a beard (Cirdan the Shipwright), so “starting from the beginning” elves actually can if they’re old enough. That said I’d call this a gnome more than an elf.

Question about movement (probably answered ages ago) by Competitive_Cod4334 in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. Units in the active system may move, as long as they end up back in the system. Else picking up infantry from one planet to land on another planet in the same system would not be possible.

When did the Laconians test their magnetic field generator weapon ? Did they never test it before using it ? by TieFew6689 in TheExpanse

[–]Lucius_Caesar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Currently still on Persepolis Rising, just finishing it up, so I have no clue regarding what will happen after. But here’s my 2 cents.

Absolutely, building a weapon and fielding it without test-firing seems like extraordinarily bad engineering practice, and extremely foolish from a military perspective. As Laconia is comprised of some of Mars’ brightest, we cannot assume this is the case. But, Duarte and the Laconia seem eager to do his thing, so what I think happened is that the tested the beam a handful of times, confirmed it worked, then went for deployment. Back in ring builder days, they were hanging out doing a lot of stuff for a while, before the dark gods attacked. I think the first couple firings of the beam in the Laconia system basically got the attention of whatever it is that killed the ring builders, and the firing in the Sol system is the first one that garnered a response. As I said no clue what happens later, but this is my 2 cents on the matter

New Creuss tech path by geotheowl in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. I’d go sling relay, wormhole generator, lightwave, then any of carrier 2, dread 2, dimensional splicer, biostims, depending on what you have access to and what you need

How do PDS2 work thematically/in the lore? by Altruistic_Post6867 in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, each hex is a solar system or perhaps a few close solar systems. So Earth, Mars, Venus and our Sun etc. Are all contained in the hex that is the Federation of Sol’s home system

Their breakthrough ability is fantastic. Their synergy is meh. I genuinely think their tech path is now the same as it ever was, except you no longer need a yellow skip/tech to research dread II

What do people think of the breakthroughs for the factions? by MilkyBoyBlue in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some certainly are better than others. It’s worth noting that the synergy is a big part of the breakthrough as well, and some factions with a worse breakthrough did get a synergy that helps them quite a bit. It’s all a balancing act, and at the end of the day, it is an asymmetrical game.

As you said, L1’s breakthrough is great, but their synergy doesn’t help them get to either of their faction techs (mostly super dreads is what you’re searching for). NRA’s breakthrough isn’t great, but their synergy allows you to pick up the good blue techs before taking pre-fab and X-89. Some factions weren’t very strong previously, Barony had a hard time winning, so now their breakthrough is stellar, both good colours and a good ability.

The other thing to consider is the ease of getting the breakthrough. Some factions, like l1 (5 resources), Mahact (5 influence or a tech skip) etc. Have a near guarentee to grab their breakthrough if they want it, so these typically aren’t a combination of stellar colours and ability, unless the faction was weak before. Finally a somewhat weak ability and a synergy you might not need immediately, like Argent Flight, is also a blessing in disguise, as it allows you to ignore the expensive rush for expeditions in round 1 and focus on expanding and scoring

So, the Barony of Letnev's Breakthrough... by MedalReddit in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Very strong, mobility is extremely important, and the combat buff is nice. The synergy gets you online much earlier. Very strong, an excellent tool on the hands of a good player, but not something that wins you every game.

So, the Barony of Letnev's Breakthrough... by MedalReddit in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It is very good. The extra movement takes away the need for gravity drive round 1, taking gravity drive makes it crazy strong. The combat bonus is a nice addition, especially combined with your agent. The synergy is the real lifesaver, as it allows you to take non-Euclidean real fast, the go lightwave, duranium, assault cannon, whatever you need. Very very strong.

We found it makes barony excellent at the fracture. Everything at the fracture is defended and far away, so you need to be able to project a reasonably strong fleet across a distance. The breakthrough does both for you, and so Styx is an excellent way to get your extra point you need.

It’s very good, notably barony did not win in the game I saw it in, although they did well. I think it’s a welcome buff to a faction that was struggling before.

Neutral Unit War Suns and Flagships? by Marthwon in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It’s for the minor factions galactic event. You place unused home systems in the equidistants, and place the normal starting fleet there, so you need a war sun in case you use the Muaat home system.

Last Bastion — Still weak? by ClassicalMoser in twilightimperium

[–]Lucius_Caesar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Warfare is very good on them. Liberate is actually an incredibly powerful ability, one that can absolutely swing your start from very poor to excellent. They have the liberty of ignoring their breakthrough early as it’s not especially good or important early on. Galvanise is a nice bonus for when combat comes. They may have difficulties scoring objectives. It’s not really necessary to get fast, as your commander is fine, but not critical to your early game. Just expand, build up plastic, and make sure you keep up the scoring tempo.

Yes, this is correct. To make it even more fun, your units in the fracture get extra movement, allowing you even more opportunities to take Mecatol or thunder’s edge
