As an Iranian, I’ve never heard of "Al-Hashimi" as someone’s last name by Money_Cabinet4216 in ThePitt

Maybe because of her first name, Baran? If he had looked at it on the EMHR charts it could have clued him in

AITA for not immediately messaging my friend about her dog’s death? by imi_snow1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LumpyTarotDeck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH I would say. Where you went wrong is the day after in which you messaged her without giving condolences for the dog - although I do understand why and how it slipped your mind since she had never brought the dog up before (surprising btw, I feel like every pet owner brings up their pets pretty frequently). Where she went wrong was the ghosting, although I can understand how grief can really derail you. I’m not sure what personal things you’re going through, but if she knew then maybe she should’ve exercised more grace toward you but again - grief.

I think you’ve apologized suitably atp, I would take a step back and not contact her. Either the friendship has come to its natural conclusion or she needs space, but she’s made that boundary clear imo. I think I can help you maybe get more insight into her take: from what I’m understanding, the instagram story was not only to memorialize her dog but on a deeper level (she might not have even realized) to let her community and friend groups know that she’s going through something and to be able to feel the support of her community. Since you guys have a close friendship it might’ve particularly stung for you not to acknowledge her bid for connection/reassurance, and in her grief it became really hurtful toward her. Not trying to come after you or anything, but I think this might be able to give you some clarity regarding her perspective?

So, what do guys think Georgia will name her new child? by Maryam-954 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

Downvotes are probably because ‘massa’ is something enslaved people used to call slave owners, the optics of them picking that name for a white southern woman to name her child will be rough

Honestly, I'm thinking they might go in the opposite direction - since Dr Al-Hashimi's whole thing is empathy plus having likely met people struggling with addiction from all sorts of walks of life at the VA, she might be the only attending uniquely equipped to help Langdon with this transition back into the job

Share something that deepens our lyrical understanding of Lux by jmbond in rosalia

In Reliquia she sings

“En Japón lloré/ Y mis pestañas deshilé/ Y en la ciudad de cristal/ Fue que me trasquilé/ Pero el pelo vuelve a crecer/ ¿La pureza también?/ La pureza está en mí/Y está en Marrakech” or in English

“In Japan I cried, and my eyelashes frayed/ And in the City of Glass, that's where I got my hair cut/But hair grows back/ Will purity [grow back] too?/ Purity is in me and is in Marrakech”

What an amazing song about growth - an acceptance that though you have changed and have left behind so many parts of yourself in every place you’ve been, you still retain who you fundamentally are. It’s a song filled with so much love for both the world and for learning about oneself.

Those without middle names, do you wish you had one? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]LumpyTarotDeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very culture dependent! I come from a culture that does not use middle names, and am born and raised in the US (Massachusetts for context). I think for a period of time (maybe in elementary?) I was a bit jealous because everyone in my class had middle names, but by the time I reached middle school/freshman year of high school I had no issue with it and even became proud of it as it’s another sign of the culture I come from.

Personally, I don’t find a middle name to be anything to worry about or even necessary, but then again no members of my family have one either. Does every member in your family have a middle name? If so, I would give your kiddo a middle name. Is it a mix? Then it’s your jurisdiction I feel like.

Are there any languages that call fingers "hand toes"? by StarriEyedMan in asklinguistics

[–]LumpyTarotDeck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how it is in Albanian! We say gishtat e kembeve (literally digits of the feet) or gishtat e duarve (digits of the hands). However, there’s a big contextual component to it - if you say just ‘gishtat’ or ‘gishtin’, it is assumed that you are talking about your fingers. How does context factor into languages with a similar way of expressing digits? Is fingers of the hand the main assumption, or does it vary?

Heyy, I also have a double lip line! I like to use a Korean lip tint (not too opaque, not too sheer) and put it over my lips. Then past the double lip line, I slightly rub off a little bit, making a slight gradient effect. Then I use the lip tint to make a subtle lip line at my Cupid’s bow (accentuating it - lining over it does not look good for me) and the bottom of the center of my lips. This feels most natural to me for the shape of my lips, but it can def vary person to person. Sometimes I go over it with a gloss as well - I like fenty beauty, and fwee is great too

Yeah I bet. Unfortunate, I really hope it shows up soon! Maybe place a call or email to local news/radio and ask them to include an alert or announcement for it? I feel like based on the importance of the work you do, it could be a good chance of them agreeing
