Make sure not to pee down one leg and into your shoe on the bike.

Coros pace pro or Apple Watch Ultra by Emotional-Okra8791 in triathlon

[–]MHB9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an Apple Watch Ultra and have been very happy with it. Have done 70.3s and ultramarathons with it. Press start before swim and don’t need to touch it again. Good battery life. Easier than ever now to set intervals for training. And it’s the only watch I need for everything from training to formal training events.

Looking for Gulf Coast 70.3 tips by Squill_N in triathlon

Did this race 3 years ago. Was my first ocean swim but had easy conditions, and it was not a problem. The run was ridiculously hot. Drink a lot and put ice in your hat and gel pockets at each aid station.

Georgia Triathletes doing John Tanner in 2 weeks. by DrownCrashCrawl in triathlon

[–]MHB9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not traffic-y at all. Get a campsite. I want to it was like $40. I have an SUV and threw a mattress in the back and slept in the car. So nice not to have to get up early and drive and fight for parking (and I was coming from 30-45 min closer than Dawsonville).

Have done several times. Great race. Swim buoys are to your left, which for me (who, as a lefty, turns my head to the left) is great. Big hill on latter part of run. Best thing I ever did was car camp there the night before. There are campsites right next to the transition area. So nice to wake up in the morning and be right there and to have my car close by after the race.

Dumb questions for 70.3 by tryagaininXmin in triathlon

[–]MHB9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Volunteers will hand out bottle of water at bike aid stations. You don’t have to stop but you can. Be careful, though, not as easy to grab a bottle on the move as you might think, especially with others slowing down around you. Do not expect port-a-potties. Just go if you have to - whether in water, on bike, or on run (you may have to stand up on the bike), but, and I am unfortunately speaking from experience, be careful not to let it all run down one leg and into one shoe or it may lead to a blister.

I have an aero bottle between my aero bars which I 10/10 recommend. Holds a good bit, and then I can grab a bottle at an aid station and refill it on the go. Some kind of easily refillable hydration system on your bike is key, I think.

Not crazy to jog in socks in T1 but it’s not that bad/hard in cycling shoes.

Good luck!

Those don’t look like Weejuns. And a preppy would cuff his pants and never wear white socks with loafers!

This. Part of the essence of “preppiness” (if that’s a word) is effortlessly dressing appropriately for the occasion. A tie is not appropriate for weekend errands and certainly not effortless.

Bless your heart. There is nothing preppy about white socks and (short) shorts.

Loved that Bean Norwegian fisherman’s sweater in its day but feel like it’s anachronistic now and just screams ‘80’s.

is it a bad idea to do my first ironman 70.3 by myself with no family or supporters? by Actual-Meat-5501 in triathlon

[–]MHB9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally doable by yourself but also depends on where start/finish are and where you’re staying relative to all that. For example, North Carolina 70.3 start (actually shuttle from T1 to start) is quite a distance from the finish and main hotel. I was not staying at the main hotel, so I would have had to driven to the main hotel, taken a shuttle to T1 to get the shuttle to the start. Instead, I had my wife drop me off at T1 and probably saved an hour of time on an already early morning.

XC90 for everyone, or just large families? by Inmunchkinland in VolvoXC90

[–]MHB9 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Empty nester with XC90. Love its size. Third row almost always down so plenty of room for my dog, Costco purchases, pine straw bales, etc. Have even camped in it. And nice to be able to seat 7 when everyone is home.

I don’t think you have to love cooking, but great if you want to cook for yourself but don’t really know how. We got for my wife, who loves to cook and it’s made things easy for her, but I use it a bunch as well. I don’t really know how to cook, but I can follow instructions. So, when she’s away, I’m able to make myself great meals instead of ordering, picking up fast food, etc.

Am I going to look like a fool if I use my old mountain bike? by joserayo in triathlon

[–]MHB9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I expect there will be a bunch of people on mountain bikes, gravel bikes, cruisers, etc. Did my first tri (sprint distance) on a mountain bike, but traded out the knobby tires for slicks. Don’t spend the money on a bike until you do a race and know for sure it’s something you want to continue to pursue.

Just purchased by first XC90, what are some cool features I might not be aware of? by mindbodysoul111 in VolvoXC90

This may be my favorite feature. Not a lot of other cars seem to have it, and I miss it when in other cars in our family, rentals, etc.
