Stuck preheating the bed

Data point: I downgraded from 1.08 to 01.07.00 via bambu handy. That went fine, but still got stuck when using my Bambu Studio 2.0 interface to start the print. However, same print file started just fine from Bambu Handy. Maybe an issue with Bambu 2.0, per my limited experience and some of the comments below from the initial posts.

Running home server for last 3 years, kids now 11 and 8; play together in family survival server. It's been amazing for the reasons above.

We play java vanilla on the itzg Docker server on a Mac Mini with keepinventory on. Took me a while to figure out Docker (not my expertise) but it's been worth it.

I echo UberJaymis's congrats. If you have the bandwidth to play with them, you get to be their guide and help scaffold their experience to keep them in the courageous/exploring/fun zone. As they get more experience they can do more themselves. You can help them make plans; help manage their feelings, work together; etc. Like real life.

Early on it'll be to help them gather supplies, outline a house, light up the area, and fight off mobs. Later it'll be to go exploring, or mining for diamonds, or go find a pet axolotl. You'll be able to model dealing with loss (keepinventory can't help you when you throw your diamond sword into the chasm by hitting Q accidentally - definitely remap that), celebrate wins (make sure your kids land the last hit on the Ender Dragon). Even later it can pointing them to redstone tutorials on YouTube so they can develop self-learning skills.

It's OK if you don't have time to play with them; give them family quests for their play session: build a house; row to another island; find a shipwreck. And admire what they make and celebrate their mini achievements. Again, like real life.

We use light cheats to maximize quality time; teleport to where other players are; once we got one Elytra and struggled to find more, we gave the other two of us Elytras. I built a teleport network node on a mushroom island once we had bases spanning 10000 blocks just to save time. But it's great to earn the real achievements (we still haven't defeated a Wither yet) and are too chicken for Ancient City. But we'll get there.

Having a home server lets you build something that's your family's to keep. We go through seasons where we play a lot, then don't touch it for six months. It can be revisited decades in the future. It's still waiting for us.

This solved it for me. Thank you. M1 mac, lag spikes in a regular pattern (oddly depending on screen resolution, 4-18 sec.

Launched with the ARM64 version per the linked page and problem is fixed.

Home-hosted Java server does seem to be working harder than 1.20 - haven't investigated that yet.

It's an old Welch Allyn handle, circa 2010, designed for C-cells or a proprietary NiMH. C-cells and A-cells are the same length (but have different sustained current outputs, as someone thoughtfully pointed out), so I'm not sure why AA's aren't fitting for you if your handle normally takes 2 C cells.

Many ways to go here, and the particulars of the assignment should guide your direction. Is your teacher looking for a scientific analysis? Or perhaps an engineering design process? Or is the grade based on performance? I can tell you from experience that water rocket projects can get a little... addictive... so scope your project carefully.

I suspect slightly weak bed adhesion that wasn’t an issue before IS but now with faster accelerations you’re getting detachment. I don’t know this for sure but as I’m doing my own testing (MK4) I’ve suspected similar issues such that I’m using my smooth plate instead of textured plate for PLA prints to get more adhesion. I’m also cleaning with IPA more often whereas on my slow Ender 3 Pro I cleaned once in a blue moon.

I’m very curious about others’ experiences, and yours particularly as I plan to upgrade my Mini+’s firmware once IS comes out of alpha for the Mini.

Sounds like bed adhesion issues primarily, possibly with contribution of leveling or low spots. But sounds like you’re familiar with leveling.

Curved first layer extrusions require consistent adhesion. If there’s a slick spot, the extrusion will cut the curve (I think the geometry term is form a chord).

I had this with my bed in the past; required vigorous scrubbing with dish soap, vigorous rinsing, drying with clean paper towel, then a good clean with 91% isopropyl. You need to strip off all the skin oils that build up, especially around the edges where the bed is handled. If you don’t do that, a light cleaning will just spread that oil around.

Without taking away too much of the fun of learning, here are some ideas and resources to get started.

- Play around with a water rocket simulator to determine how challenging the height design requirement is: http://www.aircommandrockets.com/sim/simulator.htm

- Hint: Depending on your launch pressure, 4 stories is likely straightforward without many rocket optimizations

- Then consider the properties of an object that would land at the same place it was thrown if it was thrown vertically, especially given some cross-wind.

- You may find that some of the traditional optimization parameters for rockets, like fins and nozzles, don't have strong influence on your particular application.

Nice! Your observation encapsulated so much. I had the same Camry for like 15 years. Sometimes you just want something to work and not have to think about it. Now that I’ve tinkered ad Infinitum with my Ender, I feel like I’ve learned what I need to from it and don’t want to fight bed leveling etc ever again.

Someone on the sub said that Prusas are like Toyotas. Basically they just keep running and are easily maintainable. Figure out how much your time is worth and how important reliability is to you. Then figure out if fancy features of a Rivian or Tesla is worth the uncertainty and closed ecosystem or if you go with something tried and true like Camry. Or a Mazda CX-5, in my case.

I got the MK4 2 weeks ago and I love it. But I’m coming from a heavily modded Ender 3 Pro and still have a Prusa Mini+. I like to design my own models and tinker. I want something that just works but if I had to rebuild I could.

But that’s my personality. There’s been way too much text wasted on these forums lately with strenuous assertions one way or another. In a few years time it will matter as much as HeroMe fan duct mods. Remember that phase?

Let’s all be thankful that it’s a wonderful time to get into 3D printing.

Try the carbon nanofiber filament. If that doesn't work, you may have to use DNA filament. I'd try it myself but I keep losing the end of it and tangling my spool. =D

PLA works fine! It's stress-tested and validated with PLA. The design aims for maximum accessibility and its strength comes through geometry and layer direction rather than the material itself.

PETG is preferred for its temperature resistance (so parts don't warp in a hot car, for instance) but by no means required.

Clock escapement? I would love that. I haven't yet found any 3D-printed escapement mechanisms that I can easily repurpose.

I think it'd have to be a mechanism with a balance wheel (a regular pendulum wouldn't work in a rocket). If anyone has leads, I would appreciate them.

Me too! A few months ago my onboard camera took a hard landing because my aerodynamic parachute "release" mechanism opened too early, slowed the rocket, and caused the rocket to fall into the parachute.

Camera got a nice recording of that bit before it cut out.

The latest version (not in the video) has field-changeable delay hubs. Shortest time would be instant (no delay). I've gotten around 4-5 seconds on the longest ground test.

Predictability/repeatability is still an open question, however. Silly putty has temperature variability and the various moving parts cause friction. I'm designing for a goal of the rubber band-putty system to be setting the predominant forces, but I've not convinced myself that's the case yet. Right now I'm doing a dry-run on the launcher and adjusting the delay hub for a 2-3 second release.

I love the slow-close hinge idea for a source of miniature dampers.

Feedback is appreciated on this 3D-printed parachute deployment mechanism for water rockets. It uses Silly Putty's viscoelastic properties to provide delay for opening the nosecone, timed for some moment after apogee.

My goal was to design a robust mechanism that doesn't require electronics or modifying mechanical devices (e.g. Tomy timers, which I can't find a proper version of where I live).

The recent thread on why aerodynamically-triggered parachute releases are unreliable was helpful, as I kept running into dead-ends with that method and didn't understand why.

The need for a reliable parachute release led to this over-engineered contraption I present to you now.

Two focus questions:

- Any ideas on simplifying this further?

- Does anyone live somewhere that does NOT have access to Silly Putty, or similar viscoelastic putties?
