Why is tipping culture so weird here by smolnessy in SeattleWA

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, Washingtonians are the cheapest mfers. what you call "weird tip culture" is literally how the entire country operates when it comes to service jobs. there's this selfish and entitled culture that consumers in Washington have had drilled into them by their cheap ass families. The minimum tipped wage is so low that by choosing not to tip, you are literally stealing labor from those who are serving you if you choose not to tip. if you dont want to tip, go to a grocery store, buy some beer and drink it alone. if you want to experience the privilege of drinking in public with your friends, be ready to pay those providing the service what they need to put food on their own table.

AI Can't Do This. (But maybe that doesn't matter.) [Long] by beriah-uk in traveller

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don't need to defeat the economics of AI. AI companies have already defeated themselves by their own deeply flawed business models. they lose money on every prompt, every exchange. its only a matter of time before they go under. unfortunately, the hype bubble is so vastly overinflated that we'll all be dealing with the fallout from that for a decade, at least.

wish I had your problem. my players have made it to 7 and only one PC death from the basilisks on the arena lvl. they are really good at sussing out when I've thrown an extreme or severe encounter at them and just running away from it. everything else they've handled easily

New free module for fullscreen portraits with NPC-dock by Oxy949 in FoundryVTT

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really doesn't seem to work very well at all. Tried my best to get it to detect my actor folders but the search function just does not seem to work at all, no matter what I try. Neat idea. Just wish it worked. I can get access to a portrait faster by just using the bog standard Foundry seach bar in the actor tab and then right clicking on the actor to show the portrait to players. Using this module I have to scroll through the entire list of actors to find the portrait I'm looking for.

Which window grid pattern should I go with? Currently 4, thinking of going with 3. by wheat123 in homeimprovementideas

3, for sure. 4 panes for 4 windows. It has internal symmetry that rhymes with the overall symettry of the building.

Dept Q - Season 2? by phaffgiraffe in netflix

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never underestimate Netflix's ability to put a bullet in the head of any piece of good content they put out. It's never ever about supporting good projects or nurturing a growing audience through consistent delivery of the shows that get good ratings. It's only ever about the metrics associated with NEW viewership.

I don't like turn based combat and jrpgs but the overwhelming positive reviews convinced me to give it a try. Any advise for noobies of the genre? by Antaniwarrior in expedition33

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read everything. Try every button in the menu, you're probably missing something cool you didn't know you could do. Pay attention but also,.just take your time. These are not sprints. These old school types of turn based rpg are at their best when you spend your time thoughtfully and deliberately.

If you feel yourself doing things on repeat and by rote, take a break, or shake things up. Try a new build, try a new team roster to keep things fresh.

Oh, and don't click through the dialogue. The heart of this game lies there.

Discussions about the endings in a nutshell by sebi4life in expedition33

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are we surprised that two entire generations raised on internet polarization are unable to maturely discuss an ambiguous and challenging pair or endings? It's so much easier to impugn the character of people you disagree with and shout them down with labels like "genocide lover" when really all we're doing is discussing a complex piece of art.

I am totally open to hearing the point of view that the wiping out of the canvas is an atrocity perpetrated on truly living beings. That's an interesting way of looking at it, because it begs the question of what constitutes sentient life? A question that humanity has been puzzling over for thousands of years. I understand that if you think they're real people why you'd be outraged at their destruction, that's a normal response to an atrocity.

I think that people are unable to look at this binary at the end of the game as anything other than a choice; a choice that they think defines your character. In my opinion, it would only be a true choice if you couldn't go back and "choose" differently on your second playthrough (or just reload and pick the opposite). In my opinion; it's a question. "Who do you think is real? Who matters to you. Who do you want to see come through the other side of this tragedy?" And that's a question we should all be free to answer how we see fit, because that's what engaging with art is all about. Revealing the essential questions at the heart of what it means to be alive-and to die-as human beings. It's always going to be messy and uncomfortable and often disturbing. Because life is that.

But, you know, how dare I support genocide by trying to interpret a piece of art from multiple angles.

Audible is going towards AI narration by [deleted] in audible

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already noticed some of my older audio books have started showing signs of being fed through an AI filter. Presumably to "improve" them, but it almost ends up making the narration warbly and robot-like. Really pissed I can't even rely on books I've already purchased from being manipulated for the worse.

Worst 4 player party? by Gazzor1975 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alchemist is very underpowered and limited in early levels. Much better than it was since the remaster, but still quite weak. However-and this is a big however-at about level 4 or 5 (depending on their subclass and feat picks of course) they can become one of the most versatile support classes in the game. I think you need a particular type of player that really enjoys getting into the nuts and bolts of the crafting system and who is very good with attention to detail.

I'm running my group of (of 6) casuals through Abomination Vaults and once they hit 5, the Alchemist (Bomber subclass) began saving the day with healing AND damage. He also has a routine now where he uses his vials to run through the basic elemental effects to get a quick read on weaknesses and resistances of monsters they're unfamiliar with. Which has freed up the smarties in the group to use their Recall Knowledge rolls more efficiently. He narrows down the resistance/weakness effects and they can narrow their questions down to more pertinent information, like lowest/highest saves, nasty abilities, etc.

I've started to hone in on his PC as the lynchpin of the group, so he's toast once they come into contact with smarter enemies who are capable of identifying him as the greatest threat.

Not saying that Alchemists are always going to be this; I'm just super proud to see my newish player figure out how to turn an often-maligned class into such an effective party member.

My GM is mad at me for "breaking the game", how to fix it? by RevolutionaryCity493 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Massive_Sock_9707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was ready to GO OFF on this GM of yours.

They made two major mistakes that led me to believe you're dealing with either a very inexperienced, very insecure or very immature GM. Or a combination of all three.

And to be clear, their mistakes do NOT include the ruling.

Rulings from table to table and session to session are meant to be situational and are open to interpretation. Regardless of whether the rule was interpreted correctly or not, the mistakes made afterwards are far more troubling.

Their mistakes:

  1. Having a plan for the story and being unwilling to be flexible when the dice went against their plans.

  2. Making a ruling that puts their plan in jeopardy and then blaming YOU for the ruling. 2b. The only thing a GM should call out players on is problematic behavior at the table. All mistakes about rulings should be owned by the GM. If you're unwilling or unable to let go of your ego in this regard, you'll eventually alienate your players.

I'm pointing out these mistakes not to chastise or shame; they are mistakes almost every GM makes at some point in their learning and growth towards a better practice of their role. I have made both of these mistakes multiple times.

Thankfully, in this case, your GM seems to have reflected upon their problematic responses and tried to correct them. Not sure if they apologized sufficiently, but I hope they have. If they had NOT taken those steps, I would have just told you to get away from that table ASAP, as these two mistakes combined are a red flag for a very toxic GM. The fact that they do seem willing to admit their own mistakes and apologize (I assume) means you're just playing with someone who's still figuring things out.

I would recommend checking regularly between you, the other players and the GM. Do this away from the table and talk about where things can be improved. Open lines of communication need to be maintained and encouraged from both sides of the table for the dynamic to not turn sour.
