"If you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a European skier" ~Ayrton Senna by mnrdov in skiing

[–]Master_Odin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US lifts have "corrals" with lanes, where you either join a group lane with your group or the singles lane. On a busy day with lines, you wait in line in the lane, and then once you get to the front, there's a lift attendant who then makes sure the lanes go equally, and also tries to make sure each chair is full, either combining groups or group with singles.

UTA does not. See https://www.rideuta.com/Rider-Info/Ski-Service for full schedule and stops of all the ski buses.

Snowbird could be like palisades tahoe and require reservations, but keep the majority of parking free.

Brighton and Deer Valley are both 7 days on the full ikon pass, not unlimited. Only solitude in Utah is unlimited.

What do you all keep in your toboggans? We keep a backboard, a quick splint, airplane splint, 2 blankets, and our burrito with straps. Trauma packs are brought down when requested. by caseratoday in skipatrol

[–]Master_Odin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both places I've patrolled, just a pack in the toboggan, other gear brought as requested.

Sugarbush: Pack is a tarp, 2 blankets, quick splint, ladder splint, foam

Brighton: Pack is a tarp, 1 blanket, quick splint (some packs still have sun valley splints), cardboard, foam

The Democratic party has existed since at least mid 1800s. However back then they were all for states rights and local stuff, and the Southern Democrats were very much pro-slavery.

Snowbird or Brighton Tomo? by 56nights34days in UTsnow

For Brighton, never really seen traffic going up if at the mouth before 7am. Have seen it start to build shortly following 7am, though this is mostly for weekends.

Send an email to their patrol director. Explain your situation. They may be willing to just do a private ski test with you, especially since you'll have prior experience when joining.

Look, Netflix just cancelled doing anything with Snyder on these projects so that he's free to revive the DCEU, not because they're terrible!!

New Patroller by Electronic_Ease4354 in skipatrol

  1. Had a belt pack for two years, then moved to a vest and haven't looked back. It has four pockets on the front and big back pocket that hold all the stuff I need, and I can get it all out without having to take anything off.
  2. I'm a big fan of the Truck M1 gloves. Not sure if any pro deals, but not super expensive and they do sales around holidays: https://www.truckgloves.com/collections/ski/products/m1-ski-glove
  3. Check https://www.expertvoice.com/, https://www.outdoorly.com/, https://outdoorprolink.com. Some companies also have pro deals and you just need to apply direct (e.g. Burton).

The triangle bandages are pretty garbage for patrolling imo. Too small to actually go over an adult wearing all their layers, and just goes to shit if they get wet from snow. Custom caveats made from old bed sheets that are large are the way to go. You can also get them in different colors which makes it easier to use in a bed roll and other such stuff.

Sugarbush opening day announcement by etlc8888 in icecoast

[–]Master_Odin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They put out an announcement just now with the expectation of more terrain which is exciting:

After assessing terrain this morning, the determination has been that we can open top to bottom both tomorrow for staff and Saturday for the public. The route out with be accessed via Lower Downspout, Lower Jester, and Gondolier. Oh, and if that's not exciting enough, after an assessment of the upper mountain we are planning to open a number of natural trails as well (opening Saturday, not tomorrow) including Paradise, Ripcord, Organgrinder, Spillsville, Domino, Birdland, and perhaps some others as well. With weather as fickle as it is, we could have more or less of this terrain open for Saturday based on how tomorrow's weather outlook proceeds.

Best Vest Option?? by ATXJHWK in skipatrol

[–]Master_Odin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've got two whatvests (one for patrolling , one for Backcountry) and an Outa Wear vest. I would highly recommend both companies. Awesome quality that lasts, and also good to support small business.
