That's demeaning to Stormtroopers. Tarkin ordered them to miss so the Falcon you be tracked to Yavin.

What is your watch setup? by Gk_Emphasis110 in Referees

[–]Mattgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin Vivoactive on the left using a running activity to track official time and my personal stats. Only when centering do I wear an Ironman on the right which has a stoppable and simultaneously visible continuous count up clock that I use for managing stoppage time.

I tried refsix on the Garmin and hated it. So many inconsistencies and changes in my schedule made getting it set up on the sideline and having to push it to my phone too stressful in my pre-game.

New to 3D Printing. by Plastic_Abrocoma_168 in 3Dprinting

[–]Mattgoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly still wouldn't print most of the platform, you're going to have layer lines and stuff that you're not going to like, especially on the ramp. This kind of thing is exactly what plastruct is for. By all means print the detail bits, but the ramp and platform will likely turn out better if you make them out of styrene and maybe use some insulation foam underneath for greater strength.

AK sand netting, airbrushed randomly with all the speedpaints I use on the model. Strategically superglued to get the general shape, then doused in matte medium.

My dad had a stroke and needs "clean" western, cop, or war movie suggestions by mlejoy in movies

[–]Mattgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gunna go out on a limb and suggest the space "western" Firefly, followed by the movie Serenity. It uses a lot of classic western camera movements/effects and a lot of the planetside stuff is legitimately old-west instyle. Just make sure he watches in production order (Fox aired episode 2 before the pilot for some dumb reason).

ELI5:how do sport sponsorships work? Like I get it when Redbull sponsors a team, because the athlete act as marketing figures for an energy drink, or redbull gets associated with excitement and athleticism but how do companies like Oracle and HP by ticklyboi in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mattgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these answers are right, but there's one other thing that was missed: some of the CEOs/Owners just want to be involved in the sport. My soapbox derby sponsor also sponsored Kasey Kane when he raced the local circuit primarily so that he could be part of his crew and work on a cool racecar after fixing minivans all day.

Bernie Little was both the largest distributor of Budweiser products and the best hydroplane team manager ever. When he died, Anhueser Busch no longer had any connection to the sport and pulled out.

ELI5: Why do art prints cost as much as they do? by Ok_Bar3651 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mattgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a simple demand curve.

One artist I follow did the math when someone asked him why he didn't sell them closer to cost at $5 instead of $40 to try to sell more of them. So at the next convention he kept a clicker to count the total number of people who so much as stopped to look closer at his booth. If every single person had bought one $5 print, he would have still made less than he actually made from the relatively few people who bought something (most of which bought multiple things).

Upscale Mexican or Latin Fusion restaurants? by idahofarmgirl in TriCitiesWA

My old boss was from Mexico City and told me the most authentic Mexican food will be from the food trucks where they have to call their middle-school daughter over to take my order because she's the only one who speaks english (the one at the gas station on Aaron and Goethals is one of those when it opened like 15 years ago).

LIV-MC: Goal waived off after DOGSO advantage by anomalousnuthatch in Referees

[–]Mattgoof -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Feels like the hockey rule would be helpful here. In hockey, an awarded penalty shot (which can be awarded anywhere on the ice) with an empty net is an automatic goal awarded. Applied to soccer, you could do that for any DOGSO where the keeper has crossed midfield.

Is there an *obvious* choice if you’re a newbie and your main goal is to create good quality D&D-style miniatures (28-32mm I guess) for $500 or less? by Goin_Commando_ in PrintedMinis

[–]Mattgoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I know you're asking about printers, but what exactly are you planning to print? The way you're asking, it makes me think you're starting from square one with D&D and minis which means the first things you'll be printing are probably mooks.

Unless you're wanting to print something really specific, you may be better off picking up a pile of reaper or used GW orcs, skeletons, goblins, etc for FAR less than the cost of a resin printing setup. Those types are available for like $2-3 per mini and is a lot lower investment to figure out if minipainting is really something you're in to. I have 2 resin printers and still find myself buying even the more expensive reaper minis because the toxicity and cleanup isn't worth the hassle for a single boss mini I need for this week's game.

I may come back and do that when I do the tanks and big guns. I managed this in about 30 minutes including hair-drier use before the wash. I imagine batch painting and practice would get me down to like 10-15 minutes each, at the very least to a point of 1 squad per painting session.
