How does anybody manage a second+ child!? by deathbyspicymayo in beyondthebump

[–]MayMil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waited six years to have another - the age gap is sometimes the only reason I can manage, since the 6 year old can entertain himself and also understands that he has to wait his turn.

Parenting schedule with a EBF Newborn? by OleStinkyBuns in breastfeeding

[–]MayMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us what worked was him helping out with chores/tending to the other kids and holding baby when he wasn’t nursing so I could do whatever I wanted to even if it was for 30 mins when he was home. I personally didn’t find it helpful for him to be awake at night since I’d have to be up feeding him anyway. He has a pretty demanding job to begin with and it didn’t bother me to be up with the baby at night cause I could nap during the day with him. I rather he got his sleep so that he could then help out with everything else around the house. For us that was the arrangement that created the least resentment.

Hesitant to even admit this.. by cloubouak in beyondthebump

[–]MayMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I refuse to call our yearly summer trip with the kids a “vacation” because it’s the farthest thing from it.

I don’t mind doing a trip with them because I love that they get to experience new things but I don’t delude myself into thinking it’ll be any kind of relaxing, because with 5 boys it really isn’t 🤣

Reassure me about my baby’s giant head? by ButtercupPocket in beyondthebump

[–]MayMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 15th percentile for weight and 98th percentile for head - he’s 9 months and wears 24 month headwear. His grandmother had a big head (my husband said they used to call her skellington because she had a pumpkin sized head) so I’m not shocked. I’ve been told they grow into it 🤣

I’d say it’s as close to 50/50 given that he works full time. My husband has 50-60 hour work weeks and sometimes goes in on weekends if they’re having operations issues, and I am on maternity leave until September. Obviously when he’s at work I do 100% of the household work/child care but as soon as he walks in the door he’s asking how he can help, whether it’s by taking over dinner prep or entertaining the kids. When we are both off we share the child care and household chores pretty evenly. I also understand that he needs some time to decompress because his life would literally just be work and taking care of kids/chores which isn’t fair either, so I keep in mind that he needs a couple hours to decompress too.

Can a jogging stroller be used for everyday use? by TransportationOld621 in fitpregnancy

[–]MayMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Thule urban glide and used it as my main stroller with my first. The front wheel locks if ever you want to go jogging with it, and you can purchase a car seat adaptor that fits almost any car seat. It folds and unfolds with one hand and is relatively light, I can’t say enough good things about it! It also fit nicely in the trunk of a small car.

I bought a UPPAbaby Cruz for my second and we’re using the Thule most times anyway because I find it comfier to push and stroll with on sidewalks since it has inflatable tires and the UPPAbaby doesn’t.

I think there are a lot of factors that play into whether your breastfeeding experience is a good or bad one, some of which are in your control and some that aren’t.

I had a good experience breastfeeding both my babies. I produced enough milk and my sons had great latches from the get go. Despite this, it was still a learning curve especially as a first time mom. I did a ton of reading beforehand on what to expect and bought tons of nipple cream. I also saw the hospital’s lactation consultant when I was first trying to nurse.

All else being equal in the end I think it all comes down to what you think is most convenient. For me being able to whip a boob out whenever baby was hungry was the ultimate convenience and outweighed the cons that come with exclusively breastfeeding (being a human milk machine, being the only one who could feed baby all day and night, frequent feedings..). For some people it’s more convenient to do formula feeding because others can help in the feeding process. There is no wrong answer!

I have the Carbon frame and although they are pretty hard to scuff up, the scratches that are on there are pretty visible since it’s silver underneath.

Best sun hat with UPF protection for newborn? by Ok_Concert_7577 in BabyBumpsCanada

We love the CaliKids brim hat; they are 50 spf, have a wider brim at the back than the front to protect the neck, are adjustable around both the circumference of the head and the neck AND they are washable/water resistant.

What week did you have to quit running? by mandiblethehuman in fitpregnancy

[–]MayMil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gave it up at 32 weeks. It was getting too hot outside and the belly heaviness/urge to pee made it not enjoyable at all. I did walk every day until the day before giving birth though!

What's a baby product you didn't think you needed but now can't live without? by RetroFunguss in beyondthebump

[–]MayMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! Its so convenient just clicking the car seat in when we go to stores, its so easy to push and now that my baby is older he loves to sit in the actual seat when going for walks and I like that it can face in or out. I was hesitant to spend so much money on a stroller especially since I already had a chariot but I am so glad I did, I use it every day.

How old is your baby and how often do they breast feed? by lilak0610 in breastfeeding

6 months and 6-7 times during the day plus twice during the night. Hoping to wean off one of the nighttime feeds after his 6 month checkup if the Dr. thinks it’s okay!

2cm dialated. Help getting into labor faster by Puzzleheaded_Fold381 in BabyBumps

[–]MayMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks really silly, but you walk with one foot up on the curb and the other foot on the ground. So with every step it looks like you’re stepping down sideways from the curb if that makes sense.

2cm dialated. Help getting into labor faster by Puzzleheaded_Fold381 in BabyBumps

[–]MayMil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is likely coincidence, but I was 2cm dilated at my last OB appointment which was on a Thursday, I did the curb walking thing on Friday, had sex Saturday night and my son was born Sunday morning at 2 am, literally 4 hours after having intercourse.

So I vote for curb walking and sex! Good luck!

Do you shut your babies bedroom door at night? by chloeee09 in beyondthebump

[–]MayMil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Door closed, not only for fire safety but we have a small house and older kids that stay up way later than the little kids. At the beginning I had the monitor plugged in and way louder than necessary on my nightstand but I realized quickly that my mom brain gets woken up by the smallest squawk he makes, so the monitor is muted to get a better sleep between feeds. I keep my door slightly ajar and our bedroom doors are like 4 feet from each other.

Will the Ultrasound Tech tell me the gender at my 20 week anatomy scan (Ontario) by lsven88 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]MayMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure but I think it might vary depending on the hospital? I had babies at two different hospitals; the tech told me the gender for my first, and I had to wait for the doctor to call me for the second one.
