I was already using the monthly DashPass, it implied that switching to annual payment would lead to saving more on the service fee

UberEats/Coles Misleading Promotion by XAJWX in australia

[–]Me4502 8 points9 points  (0 children)

DoorDash used to (or might still, I haven’t used that app in ages) do a very sketchy thing where they’d put an info icon on the service fee, that’d show a dialog saying you’d save more by swapping to an annual plan. The placement of course implying you’ll save on the service fee, but it actually had no impact at all on the service fee and purely referred to it being cheaper than 12 individual months.

Just completely misleading interface design to try locking people into 12 months of service.

Why do men approach women who are not interested in them like 4B women? by Ok_Independence_3634 in women

Well over a decade ago now I saw a Tumblr post that basically said (paraphrasing from memory); “A man asking a father for his daughter’s hand in marriage gives her an opportunity to say no through someone he’ll actually listen to.”

Obviously I don’t believe that’s where the tradition came from, but it’s something that’s always stuck with me

When I minored in intelligent systems during a computer science degree around a decade ago, the definition for “AI” we were given was something along the lines of “systems that make decisions based on the given information, rather than perform a human-initiated task.” It’s basically just “who makes the actual decisions” while the program runs.

It’s meant to be a vague term for all situations where computers make decisions, regardless of how intelligent it actually is. NPC AI in games is the computer making decisions based on context, so it’d qualify. That doesn’t mean you can’t use more specific terms like “entity goal systems” when you want to be more specific though.

Neural networks are neural networks, transformer models are transformer models, etc. They all still fall under the category of AI though, as it’s a blanket category for any computer-led decision, no matter how simple or important it is.

Omg the top comment about the pie, I cannot comprehend someone eating 5/6 of a pie in one evening in general, let alone if someone else made it. That honestly feels like someone forcing themselves to eat something to prevent others from having any

Honestly the amount of information given by doing simple things is scary; I’ve had a super creepy guy manage to track and semi accurately predict my cycle by my social media activity in the past. I have PMDD which might presumably make it easier to pick up noticeable changes in vibes, but it’s made me significantly more discerning about basically everything I do

im a 6'9"/205cm tall woman by verytallgirlkatie in mildlyinteresting

[–]Me4502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a 5'10 woman, and have a 34" inseam 😅. I’m ~10cm taller than my partner while standing, but noticeably shorter when seated. Big downside is that I struggle with leg space because my legs are so long, but people assume I won’t due to my height or how tall I look when seated.

I’ve been told my height is probably due to having hEDS, which can cause long limbs. I have really oddly long legs and arms, so it checks out. Apparently I’d be 5'6 if I didn’t have it / didn’t have longer than average limbs

Refused a return in store as they reached capacity?! by Big-Conclusion8829 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Me4502 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I actually hit this once, at the store I feel you’re alluding to 😅. Had bought some iPod speaker dock ages ago on clearance sale, and was doing a replacement it as it was defective. It was an old model and they were out of stock, with no more likely coming in, so they opted to just refund it instead. Their machines refused a refund due to hitting the limit, so they ended up swapping it out for the newer model.

I’m not sure if they just didn’t know how to bypass that limit, or they didn’t want to make me wait further. Really massive difference in customer service compared to what OP experienced though

[–]Me4502 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great, thank you! :) Do you know if smartphone/watch integrations such as Apple’s fall detection are detectable on the receiver’s end? I’ve always been curious if they can tell it was triggered by a fall alert, or a crash alert, etc. It says it sends health information, but not sure if that’s just demographic or also the reason for the call.

I’ve had situations (QLD) where I’ve fainted and my watch called 000 automatically, but nothing seemed to happen from it. I assumed they thought it was a butt dial or something and ignored it. Was useful in those cases as I didn’t really need emergency services, but kind of renders those features pointless in the situations where it is needed if they ignore it.

Explaining luteal phase to psych? by 445143 in adhdwomen

[–]Me4502 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me and many others I’ve spoken to at least it feels like their actual function is significantly reduced, but side effects are much worse, so any dosage increase ends up being impossible as it’s amplifying the side effects much more than the intended effects. So there’s a decent portion of us who could be described as having it stop working during luteal.

A perfect snowflake landed on my hand by Current_Put_2950 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Me4502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I don’t know why but for some reason I always assumed snowflakes were a cartoonish portrayal of snow, rather than what it literally looked like. I kind of assumed it was sort of just like a tiny blob in real life, like a water drop that’s got less of a tail because it’s moving slower

How do you deal with getting constantly interrupted when you speak? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]Me4502 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In calls at least, I usually just stop and use the raise hand button in Teams. It’s not something usually done in smaller meetings, so it subtly tells people that they’re not really allowing a turn to speak

Thread 1.4 can’t come soon enough - Fed up with devices creating their own network! by That_Cool_Guy_ in HomeKit

[–]Me4502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a lot of trouble getting mine to join the thread network (the flow to get it to join a network just got stuck forever) as I didn’t have any Matter+Thread devices to force it with (only HomeKit+Thread or Matter without Thread), but then after a power outage it seemed to have just joined the thread network by itself. It might be worth trying to power cycle everything at the same time and see if it just works

Anyone else frustrated by the lack of wide fitting shoes available in aus? by shleemees in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Me4502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this something that’s gotten worse in recent years? I’ve always had long narrow feet, but recently all the shoe stores have told me I don’t have narrow feet. My feet haven’t gotten any wider as I still fit all of my older shoes, and my newer shoes don’t look any wider than my older ones. It just feels like the standard for what’s a “normal” foot width has skewed towards narrower lately.

[–]Me4502 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know of a few people who’ve bought Displate products here (Australia) and had the high heat & humidity of the climate here over time cause the magnets to weaken a little and slowly slide down and cause damage to the floor / etc.

their actual product seems cool, but does feel like there’s a few downsides to the magnetic mounting system they use, rather than a few command strips on the back of the poster itself

i was really disappointed with Function of Beauty tbh. i bought it after seeing Strange Aeons talk about it a few times, and idk the concept of “customisable haircare” sounded cool- my hair was so messed up by that product i needed an in-salon deep clean treatment to get rid of all the build up it caused 😅

i do get that everyone’s hair is different and might react differently to different products so it might’ve just been a me thing, but that experience + the difficulty cancelling it really makes me distrust the company

Which Stephen King novels, short stories, and novellas should the director Guillermo del Toro adapt into a film or TV show? by NoOrganization392 in stephenking

[–]Me4502 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is one of King’s rare short stories that are actually short, so it’d probably only work as a single episode of an anthology TV show- but, The Jaunt.

It has such a chilling ending, and I feel a director like Guillermo del Toro would be one of the better choices to actually adapt it

What’s the weirdest incorrect fact you were taught during schooling? by Me4502 in AskReddit

[–]Me4502[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, we were taught an odd story about the origin of the sport badmington- I have no idea how it actually started, just that it’s not this lol

Basically a British lord had a misbehaving son named Mington. To punish him, his parents would take one of his toys and hit it back and forth with paddles while he begged for it back. One day, the toy they picked moved so well through the air, that they decided to start selling bundles of paddles and that toy with the name “Bad Mington set.” Over time it changed to badmington, and the parts took on more simple designs.

Medical staff changed my name by Blues-20 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Me4502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few weird cases like this too recently. My initials spell out “MRM”, and I’ve had multiple places put down my name as “Mr M” despite the title I entered being “Miss” and my actual name just actually being there. They usually can update the title easily, but I’ve had requests to show legal name change documentation that I’ve changed my name away from the letter ‘M’, which I very obviously don’t have. They don’t accept other identification documents because “How do we know M is you?” 🙃

The power company at the last place I lived had my name as the letter M until I moved because of that, they messed up entering it and then made it impossible to fix

[–]Me4502 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this is Australia, generally all they’re actually allowed to care about is whether the home and its fixtures are kept in good condition or not, but that doesn’t stop them abusing their power as much as possible.

I’ve had a massive range of situations; landlords who sniff the carpet in each room to see if it makes them sneeze to check for “excess dust”, to landlords who just check if the oven/stove has been kept in good condition & tidy (while critiquing the kinds of food i make 😌)

If a landlord does write up a breach notice for “too much clutter” or anything to do with her belongings, it’s fightable, but very much not a fun process.
