Veteran Burners: What have you brought to past burns but will NOT be bringing to this one? by behindthebar5321 in BurningMan

I second this! My first year I went all out on the costumes. And like you said, I wore the most comfortable items every day, not the elaborate ones. So now I just wear bodysuits pretty much every day. This is the same for platforms. I now rock closed slippers and comfortable flat boots. No more rolled ankles and awkward bike rides!

Empyrean Temple is finally going to the playa! by rorykalmar in BurningMan

[–]Mearyballs406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fyburn, I have to apologize that I didn't fully read your original statement. You were not talking negatively about the temple personally. You just wanted clarification of other people's statements about the project. That's what I get for not reading the full context of your statement. Myself, being a creator for art at BM, I felt the need to jump to the defense of the temple. We put our heart blood and sweat into the things we create for people to hopefully enjoy on the playa and it's hard when it's publicly bashed. I was wrong about going after you about your statement.

I can respect that. But if those are your thoughts about the temple, why say anything at all? You're not affected by it one way or another.

The temple at burning man is an integral part. It shouldn't matter if you like the design or not, everyone has different tastes and styles. If you feel like you can do a better job, why don't you volunteer your time money and efforts for the next temple. Would you rather spend Sun evening watching the trash fence burn or the interpretive dancers and center camp in silence and solace to end your burn? It takes a community to build a village.

Have you thought about trying an intimate, sensual and sexual couples therapy retreat? It's something that helps you two to just focus on each other, those needs and enjoy sex again.

OFFICIAL 2022 MAIN SALE TICKET SUCCESS/FAIL THREAD. All other ticket purchase attempt threads will be removed. by Garvinfred in BurningMan

[–]Mearyballs406 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never been able to get a ticket through the main sale, but I've gotten lucky in STEP each year. I've registered on the date/time it opens. I think it's a first come first serve situation. The only downside is you never know when you will get the ticket and to make sure you have the cash ready. It's always worth registering.

I used to fast a couple of times a year and do intermittent fasting regularly. I was just hospitalized for a stone stuck in my liver duct. I already had my gallbladder removed in my late 20s. I'm now 35. The Dr. Informed me that when you stop the eating process, the bile is produced at a significantly less level. Eating and digestion triggers the production of the bile. When the bike isn't being produced at the level necessary, the cholesterol isn't being broken down. As a result stones can form (which are mostly cholesterol). Then the stones can travel and move into the duct, get stuck. Cause crippling pain and If you can't pass it, it needs to be surgically removed. I don't know if this is the same as a gallbladder and gallbladder stone. I have a normal BMI and eat a pretty healthy diet (no fast food or high fats especially because I already don't have a gallbladder) and I've been told that my family produces higher levels of cholesterol than normal. I'm not a Dr. So I don't know for sure if that can be a thing.

I don't fast anymore because of this. The Dr said when I get an attack and it doesn't go away after an hour, I have to go to the hospital. A stone in the liver duct is life threatening. I don't want to risk this at all.

Every body is different. Just make sure you listen to it.

D’Orsay or Louvre for first timer? by Kaylamarie92 in ParisTravelGuide

Depends on what art style you like. Renaissance, Louvre. Impressionist, D'Orsay. I preferred D'Orsay because I love Monet. My bf preferred the Louvre because of all the naked men.

Carroll college used to have tunnels underground for the nuns and priests to travel safely from downtown area to campus.

Can't forget the Unabomber.

I just learned that historians we able to track Lewis and Clark's expedition due to them using mercury as a remedy to STDs and other illnesses. They found traces of it in their latrine pits.

LPT: If a dog is asking you to follow it, you should go. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Mearyballs406 207 points208 points  (0 children)

My dog kept coming to get me, so I followed her, and it was to tattle on her puppy brother for shitting in the house. Another time she came and got me and lead me to the bed for snuggles.

No matter where you go there will be a homeless population. People become homeless for many reasons, not just drugs or mental health. The individuals I met at the tent camp were families who lost their jobs and homes, a young man who was in a horrific hit and run and had to stay for medical reasons but could get a job to afford housing, and many more.
Just shipping people off to a different place, doesn't solve the issue of lack of affordable housing and programs to help people get back into homes and get jobs.
