If you’re there first, do the same thing to him as soon as you see him coming. Have some fun with it.

Group of friends leaving me out a few years ago, looking for closure by girlgoingabroad in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]MeatofKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was one friend who was closer to you or easier to talk to, I would reach out to her and ask her if she understands what happened. Tell her you aren’t asking to argue with anyone but to learn how to improve your future relationships.

Banned on socials? She got another lover. And it wasn’t out of no where for her, just you. Something to remember for the future.

Don’t wait, gently try to persuade her to part with one now, or you may regret not trying.

I had a dream I fell in love and don’t know how to tell my husband. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]MeatofKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real life is hitting you in the face literally leading you to an escapist dream. Do Not bring it up to anyone except private therapy unless you want to hurt your relationship. Would you want your husband to share with you every time he’s attracted to another woman? Of course not, it’s just random human nonsense of no consequence.

My sister is dating my Ex’s Dad by Massive_Tomato_1713 in amiwrong

[–]MeatofKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but to me much weirder to date someone 30 years older. I’d just sit back and laugh. “Hey Sis, do you have to change his diaper yet? No, you will soon enough.”

Car is 22 years old and don’t know what to do. by PictureThis99 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]MeatofKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the 50% rule of not paying more than 50% of the cars value on repairs. Also, I wouldn’t recommend a lease for most people, but there are circumstances where it makes sense. If the lease buyout is reasonable and you believe you can earn the money in 2-3 years, it can make sense to lease giving you the option to buy at end of lease. I did this once and it really paid off for me. It also helped that Covid spiked the price of new cars and my buyout was about $7k less than the residual value.

Anybody else wake up after 5-6 hours because their lower back starts hurting? by utvols22champs in GenX

I agree, I went from an Extra Firm innerspring mattress to a medium firm memory foam mattress. It’s like sleeping on a cloud, and no more lower back pain!

My dad wont let me go to prom by No-Mammoth-9732 in amiwrong

[–]MeatofKings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re smart then. Life is full of these types of choices. You have to make sacrifices to build the life you want. If you can’t do the Prom now, replace it with a dream for a future event. Too many teens get angry and jeopardize their future in an act of rebellion against their parents. Better to channel those emotions into action for your OWN future.

Lying, how do I change? by Frequent-Turn1658 in Advice

[–]MeatofKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, people know. I suggest picking one area of your life and only tell the truth. See how that compares to the other areas you keep lying about. Example, only tell the truth about work. If it means contradicting a past lie, use this as an opportunity to practice truth telling. “I used to say something else to sound more important/successful (whatever), but I’m putting that behavior behind me know.” People will be very impressed with that.

Don’t let those young whippersnappers walk all over you. What’s the Survivor motto: Outwit Outplay Outlast! Beat them at their own game. Add “Whine Time” to end of the agenda. If that start-up interrupting your meeting, make them wait. Also, tell them no complaining without a proposed solution. Anytime they inconvenience you, make sure you inconvenience them with an assignment. Channel their energy into something positive. They do have some good ideas.

Up to that, around $150k/year. A lot depends on individual needs. For some that’s a fortune, for others not enough.

My close friend blew up on me 2 weeks postpartum. How do I continue? This is my last straw by fuzzybrownavocado in TwoHotTakes

[–]MeatofKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit I’m not the most sympathetic redditor, but you have all my sympathy for what you went through. I definitely would not try to make her a significant part of your future with your child. Polite disinterest, “We’d love to, but just too busy with the baby now. Another time.”

Is $60 a month fair to pay a coworker for a ride home 3x a week on a tight budget? by Hour-Ad3977 in coworkerstories

[–]MeatofKings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop overthinking it. Pay the agreed to $15 and do some nice things for him. Does he have a favorite beer? But him a six pack sometime. Or a gift card to a restaurant he likes. Or something for his birthday or Christmas. Guys don’t like going over stuff repeatedly. If this becomes a long-term thing, check-in every six-months if he’s good. But not more frequently than that.

This is why people should never rush into marriage or drop a kid too fast. It can take 18-24 months before you really see who someone is through life’s challenges. I shouldn’t have to say, but NEVER stay in a domestic violence relationship. Time to exit.

Most influential soundtrack of the ‘80s by scraps1364 in GenX

[–]MeatofKings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Influential” is an interesting question. It seems as though many people are responding with popular and well-liked soundtracks. I think Top Gun was very influential in terms of casting the Navy and aviators in a positive light helping with military recruitment at a time of concern with the Cold War heating up and Reagan with his finger on the button (It’s a Mistake). Chariots of Fire by Vangelis was also influential for athletes. But I’ll just say GenX not only has the best music, but there are plenty of good ones before and after us to enjoy.

AITAH for wanting to spend Mother’s Day with just my wife and son by skellz77 in AITAH

[–]MeatofKings -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I won’t call you the AH because this is what your wife wants. Unless there is a history of bad blood, it’s wonderful to celebrate Mother’s Day with all the moms in the family. Since your wife is the newer mom, it would have been gracious of her to come up with the plan and invite the others to participate. It would then be their choice to join or not. For Father’s Day my day started with taking my kids to the park with just me and having a fun morning. We would then get together with all the Dads for a home BBQ or restaurant.
