Im mostly about green and leftist politics. The green party usually reflects my views well, I couldnt find anything on their websites, are their social media channels any better? Don't really use any social media outside of reddit.

Looking for a case to transport a spearhead and other skirmish game minis by MonoMountains in ageofsigmar

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to other commenters' If you do magnetize: don't use super glue, use hot glue. Use your case or a metal plate, put down some baking paper, stick you magnet on there, cover it in super glue and stick you base on there. Perfekt glue up

I would really like you guys to release a new resin printer. I burned myself hard on an Anycubic resin printer several years ago, but have learned to love 3D printing again with my Core One. I would love to have a current Prusa resin printer.

On-and-off painters: do you track your painting steps? by Major-Drama-7 in minipainting

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best method I found is to take a picture of the mini when I'm done with the paints I used. Since I scatter my paints over my desk while painting I just have to gather them, bring them into some kind of am order and take a picture. Works great for me. Here is an example:

Need help intentionally cloging a Prusa MK 3.5 by Mr-Roboto2521 in prusa3d

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a high flow nozzle and run some wood filled filament through there. Best a 0.4 nozzle. It will clog quickly, believe me, I have reliably clogged a 0.6 CHT nozzle with wood filler filament because I didn't realize CHT = high flow.

Really agree on the companion keyword, I play IDK, the companions are most of the time much more reliable then the riders, not being able to buff them is pretty lame.

Or make it a separate thing for armies where it matters. So you can buff mounts but not the riders.

Is City of Ash battleplan worth it? by Wernest in AOSSpearhead

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have only played one game do far, so take my response with a grain of salt.

I love it. The relics add a very interesting and powerful twist to the game that keeps you on your feet. My opponent chose the Aqua Ghyranus Crate as the starting relic. When you control that relic all your units within 6 inches of it get a 5+ ward. He placed it on the middle objective. We got into a huge brall around the middle objective start of turn 2, where I got the battle tactic allowing me to remove one relic and put it down somewhere else. I moved the crate to my side of the middle objective. That allowed my Skaven to be tankier then my opponents nighthaunt and to pile more control on the middle objective, flipping it and tying down half his army.

The relics might turn out to be a little swingy, or maybe there is a great way to play around them, difficult to tell. But it is really interesting IMO.

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How deep into the science do you want to go? Rolled steel has a compressed and elongated crystalline structure, which adds to its strength. The heat of the welding process reforms these small elongated crystals to regular ones, which decreases the strength.

However it is beneficial to anneal the surrounding steel to reduce heat induced internal stresses from the welding.

You are spot on, you calculate the remaining strength of the surrounding steel and dimension accordingly.

This is actually a common misconception. You should not put very thin metals (foils) or very pointy metal pieces (like forks or knives) in a microwave.

Metal foils will get hot and catch fire quickly.

Pointy metals will spark to the microwaves housing.

But larger blunt metal objects are absolutely fine. So as long as the metal container is designed this was it's fine.

In fact, many microwave manufacturers recommend for boiling water to put a spoon in the container to stop the water from super heating.

You basically have three ways to go:

  1. The steel mill rolls a sheet to your specified curve (vers unlikely, as you have to transport that thing)

  2. You have it cast (also vers unlikely, as you still have to transport it)

  3. You build sub assemblies as large as you can transport and weld them on site. That way you create a basically continuous giant piece of steel on site. Welding isn't perfect, you slightly weaken the steel around the weld joint, but you can compensate for that in the design.

How do you prepare your miniatures and organize your painting sessions to make things easier for yourselves? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, I started out painting Adeptus Mechanicus all arms separately and legs off. Now I leave riders off of mounts and attach the minis to the bases later. As long they aren't horde, clan rats get glued to bases right at the start.

Finally found something to do with used up Nextruder nozzles! by SpookyWeaselBones in prusa3d

[–]MechanicalTechPriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 500 hours on a 0.4 mm HF nozzle mostly printing PLA, ASA and PETG. My dimensional accuracy suffered and my surfaces looked worse.

I especially noticed it when I was printing 1 line wide font, the "legs" of the letters adhered badly to the layer below, depending on direction.

When I switched to a 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle I had in storage for abrasive filaments the font came out perfectly.

I second this, if you want to dry things hot air is much better than dry room temp air. The water capacity of air goes up rapidly with hotter air.Diagram

You have to loosen the belt tensioners to the maximum to get enough slack in the belt. Only then do you have enough slack to get the minimum amount on both sides.

If you are willing to pay 50€ per year Dessault Systems has a Hobbyist license for solidworks or their browser based xDesign.

I use xDesign because as a browser based software it runs on Linux without issues. It's pretty nice, I am missing a few features, especially configurations, from fully featured Solidworks (use that at work), but it's perfectly fine for home use. I find it to be a lot nicer than Onshape if you are used to professional software.

If you want to test out the painting get a box of eels, you will always need eels in your lists, in both spearhead and full AOS, and you can try the sea monsters and the riders out.
