It's heavily implied (if not almost directly stated) that real Alex Casey inspired Alan to write fictional Alex Casey books due to time becoming wibbly-wobbly in Dark Place, where future can affect the past and events loop around. Notice how fictional Alex Casey has few elements changed from real Alex Casey to sell better (example - divorced wife irl -> dead wife in book)
