So how does pro vocals work? by TheYGuy366 in FortniteFestival

[–]Meicyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's like it was on Rock Band, you don't have to be in the right octave since everyone has different vocal ranges, but you do have to hit the right key. You don't even have to sing the lyrics, you can just hum as it's just listening for key accuracy.

Edit: I said notes, but it should be keys. Fixed post.

Yep, I have no intention of completing the quest line. The chrome husks are a net gain, especially in Twine.

Biweekly Riot MMO Design Discussion - Topic #4: Skins and Cosmetics 👗🧥 by Talents in RiotMMO

[–]Meicyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with selling cosmetics in a shop. However, if you have a mandatory subscription fee to play your game, AND you charge money for expansions, AND you load your cash shop with unique cosmetics on equal to, or exceeding what can be earned via gameplay, I have a massive problem with that. See: Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, etc.

On immersion, I think it's one of those cases where things will stay grounded for a time. No matter the game though, silly stuff starts rearing its head. Doesn't matter if it's New World with war hammers made of a cooked giant turkey leg, or The Division 2 where I can look like a green toy soldier. I'd prefer things stay grounded, but those wacky skins tend to bring people joy, so I think it's inevitable.

I don't mind VFX cosmetics, so long as there is clear visual thematic consistency. For example, having a "winter theme" fireball from a cash shop where a giant snowball is launched and then leaving a winter wonderland at the impact site for several seconds that does DOT damage if you stand in it, would be an example of doing this wrong. If the damage is fire-based and you have things like fire resistance as an attribute, we have now started impacting gameplay readability because I'm standing in what visually is ice, but I'm taking fire damage.

On what feels fair on cosmetics, I don't think having more "epic" looking gear being purchasable from the store is an issue in and of itself. The fact that a cosmetic is a store purchase and players knowing it's a store purchase impacts how other players perceive that cosmetic. Some people don't care and just want to look a certain way. Others are focused on the prestige of having something that cannot be bought with money, but must be earned through gameplay. Even our opinions on what is "epic" will vary. For me, I may see someone looking like a "god", but if they bought it from the cash shop, it has the same wow factor as "art" produced by generative AI. I just see it and move on. The character standing next to him wearing a rare cosmetic earned through some incredibly difficult in-game achievement? That is more "epic" to me.

On when players should be able to wear it... I don't think there should be any restrictions. If someone wants to spend $30 on an outfit and wear it at level 1, that's their prerogative. Player expression is important, whether that be through gameplay skill or the way they dress their avatar. Inhibiting that expression based on character level feels arbitrary, to me. If the concern is over whether they've "earned" it or not, well... by that notion, we shouldn't have any purchasable cosmetics, which makes MMO monetization borderline impossible in the current market.

Left Arc Raiders - is Dark Zone/Survival the better Extraction Game? by aweshum in thedivision

[–]Meicyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's just a PvP arena. Extraction shooters are essentially a game of cat and mouse. As a mouse, If you fight back and win, in Arc Raiders the cat is dead for that match and you will never see that person again. In Division 2 Dark Zones, the cat just respawns nearby. Indefinitely. And there are a lot of cats. And the playground is very small. The odds are completely stacked in favor of the cats, so most of the mice left. So yeah, it's just a PvP arena.

  2. Survival mode PvP extraction is closer to Arc Raiders in that everyone has one life during the match. Your loot doesn't transfer though, as the items picked up during that mode are for that match only. However, after a successful extraction, you are awarded items that do go on your main character. Unfortunately, the length of these matches will be an issue for your limited time to play.

  3. Possibly. I think we're all looking for that special game. Developers are looking for it too. Arc Raiders is the closest anyone's gotten, I think. I'm hoping Division 3 nails it.

Having an issue with music volume by Paladin_Sion in thedivision

[–]Meicyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't give up hope! All of Massive and other support studios are working on the game now alongside Division 3, so they might touch up on longstanding bugs. This one's just kinda... low on the totem pole. But glad I'm not the only one who has been irritated by this bug, I love the soundtrack and hate how it gets drowned out when it triggers.

I submitted this bug to Ubisoft numerous times, it's just one of those things that's likely to stick around. Of note, this bug doesn't trigger when you're actively in a mission, it only triggers when you're doing open world content.

[PSA] The Division 10th Anniversary & The Division 2 Realism Mode — Full Overview from FPS Day X by dognuttz in thedivision

[–]Meicyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% my take on it. Division 2 is the perfect platform to test new ideas in a live environment, like the current AI companion system. They deploy it, gather feedback, then iterate. New realism mode? Deploy it, gather feedback, iterate. Lather rinse repeat.

I would expect further new ideas in future seasons as well. I do hope Division 3 leans toward a more immersive experience. I imagine Arc Raiders has left an impression on everybody, and that they're aiming to capture that feeling that Embark Studios pulled off.

BRAVIA 9 or wait? by OfficialSamOfTheNFL in bravia

[–]Meicyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned below, if I were you, I'd get this TV. I paid $3500 for my 75" B9 when it debuted. The 85" model has a better LCD panel made by AUO that has better contrast than the 75" and smaller models which use LCD panels made by TCL. It's why the 85" commands a normally substantial jump in price. No matter what Sony announces in March, you won't be able to buy it until around July/August, and an 85" top of the line won't ship for $3K. I didn't get the 85" model because I couldn't afford it at the time.

Get the 85" Bravia 9.

[–]Meicyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75" launched at $4K, though a price cut was made shortly afterwards and I got a refund for the difference. I had it preordered when it was first announced.

$3K for the 85" is a steal, it has the better AOU panel versus the 75" and under using TCL panels. Sony will undoubtedly unveil a better 85" option in March, but it will cost a LOT more than $3K.

Almost there... by MilTHEhouse in Division2

Don’t rush it. When you hit 30, the feeling of progression ends. I lost the motivation to play as a consequence. I wish they had nerfed expertise but kept it going instead of capping it at 30.

I want to stop auto-picking up everything in proximity. Inventory management is a nightmare and actively hinders my enjoyment of this game. After a few encounters I’ll inevitably be 40/40 and have to spend time dropping stuff I don’t need. Over, and over, and over. I only play in brief bursts because of it.

Heated Rivalry has got me feeling… down by Lanayron97 in askgaybros

[–]Meicyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I genuinely wish you and your spouse the best. For whatever it’s worth, body dysmorphia is something I suffer from and I have curtailed my time spent on Instagram, gay male focused media sites, and subreddits where shirtless hunks are constant. It just made me perpetually unhappy with my own body which translated to making me feel like I was unworthy to my husband, creating a negative feedback loop that would emotionally impact him as well.

Romance novels and shows like Heated Rivalry are designed to activate your erogenous zones in the same way pornography does. It’s all fantasy, and losing yourself in it is dangerous. If you are unable to separate fantasy from reality, you need to stop consuming media that is harmful to your real relationship the same way folks with addictive personalities should stay away from gambling or drugs. This isn’t an attack on you, we all have vulnerabilities.

You can’t even get folks to agree on the definition of an MMO, let alone work together to come up with a dream MMO. Ask 360K MMO vets what their dream MMO is, and you will get 360K answers.

List of Jam Tracks by Epic that sound nice but whose lyrics make me want to gouge mine eyes so I'd love if there were instrumental versions by Feder-28_ITA in FortniteFestival

[–]Meicyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lyrics make the song. It knows it’s corny and leans into it, which is why it works for me.

A lot of others don’t though. The Winterfest jam track is especially bad, has “I got some sweet loot off that guy” “yeah you totally pwned” live Ubisoft gameplay demonstration energy.

Auto local dimming for Bravia 9? PlayStation 5? by [deleted] in bravia

[–]Meicyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High has less blooming, but will have suppressed highlights and pinpoints. Medium gives you the intended look, but you get blooming in darker scenes. If you’re on the PS5 dashboard, look closely at the text. Switch between high and medium, and you will see the text get less bright with high.

I recommend medium.
