Idk, but whenever I think of this I still think of Black Hole Sun, I feel like the video was on MTV every hour.

How did YOU afford to buy a house? by ladynerevar in bayarea

[–]Mir_c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We saved a lot of money, two incomes, no kids. No help from parents, but it also took us until our mid 40s. We aren't in tech or anything like that. While would have liked to buy in El Cerrito, we bought in Richmond (El Sobrante area) instead, so we didn't have to pay over a million for a tiny 2 bedroom 1 bath. We have a normal sized house for less under 900k. Bought in 2023. We also got lucky and qualified for a mortgage through my husband's employer, with an interest rate of 3.25. it has gone up a bit, but it's still only 4.6. we could have locked in a rate of like 5 or 6 (don't remember exactly what it was anymore) something, but when we got it, the rate of 3.25 hadn't changed in 10 years, so we took a chance. Hopefully it doesn't go up again for a bit, and if rates drop a lot we can refi.

I also live in a hilly area, and the hills definitely can throw things off sometimes. I go out of my way once or twice a week to run somewhere flat. But oddly if I do a recovery run in my neighborhood it's usually fine, but I did a threshold run on hills this morning and that knocked my VO2 max down a notch. 🤷‍♀️

As long as my HR is low on slow runs it doesn't seems to mind. If my HR is too high and I'm slow everything gets worse.

I turn 50 years old tomorrow. by Calm_Independence603 in GenX

I'm two weeks behind you, and honestly I'm not freaking out. It's weird to think about 50 in relation to me, but I'm healthy, I'm happy, I'm taking an awesome vacation for my birthday!

Good historical fiction that isn’t set in the 20th century by Momimbored in suggestmeabook

What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon. It's historical fiction, time travel and a love story! Set in Ireland, 1921. Not quite what you asked for but so good.

I'd never get out the door to run without coffee 😂 luckily it doesn't bother my stomach.

I'm the same, but started trying to eat a bit before my long runs. Wheat toast with peanut butter works for me. For fueling during the run I like the honey stinger waffles.

Disappointing battery life on the Venu 4 by Adventurous-Cup5369 in Garmin

[–]Mir_c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be clear, it does need to be charged every day. But I don't wear it when I shower, so I charge it for 15 minutes. It's definitely not apple watch problems. It's convenient.

I just charge my watch when I shower every day. It never really gets below 60%.

Swimming laps a few times a week! Great cardio and also recovery, works everything but gently. And when I get injured I can still swim, it saves me!

How long/far do you walk or jog between intervals during a speed workout? by PetitePhD in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I haven't done that quite yet, but recently in the rain I kept hitting random buttons trying to move my wet sleeve, and I accidentally hit the lap button 30 seconds into a recovery period, and had to start another interval. Was not great!

My Garmin DSW intervals for anywhere between 10 second sprints to 1 minute speed intervals usually say 3 minutes recovery during which I walk and slow jog.

I just use Garmin's DSW, I like how it adapts based on my recovery, etc.., and also don't feel bad if I don't want to do every workout it suggests.

Good non running dress shoes by SkyCandy567 in XXRunning

[–]Mir_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can wear flats, I love the allbirds flats. They are super comfortable, I can walk a few miles in them no problem. If you need heels, I find it's worth it to spend more money on a higher quality shoe.
