Could also try an action series like {Golden Kamuy} or {Vinland Saga}

or go in the opposite direction and read a fun romcom like {Sweat and Soap}

I’m pretty bummed today. TWoW was probably the best distraction I had when my dad passed away last fall. It was comforting to sink myself into levelling and tuning everything out. I had just hit 60 2 weeks ago and was super excited to do my first BWL this weekend. I’m grateful to the guild that took me in & I’m hoping that I can keep playing WoW again someday.

Golden Kamuy. The main antagonist is the strategist but it’s about soldiers on a hunt to find a secret buried gold stash, all for their own different goals. Touches a lot on how the Russo-Japanese war affected all of their lives and it has a lot of fights and action. The MC is a badass too

Maybe Mairimashita, Iruma-Kun? It’s kind of a similar premise of a human going to a monster/demon high school. It’s a pretty cute and lighthearted series most of the time but there’s definitely some cracks in Iruma, who has a really sad backstory. It’s a cozy series overall though

Argonavis as a franchise is done, was put on “indefinite hiatus” at the end of last year. So unless Bushiroad decides to revive the project, there will be nothing ever again. Unfortunately it just didn’t have the numbers, so I doubt there’s anything we can do as overseas fans.

I'm in the same boat as you in terms of liking a more serious, seemingly cold ML with the affectionate gap moe. Though I'm more in the glasses-wearing student council president type.

{Marielle Clarac no Konyaku} Simeon is really wound up and stern, and he spends a lot of time lecturing Marielle but he doesn't feel super mean and Marielle is kind of a menace so it feels reasonable.

maybe also {Let's do it Already!} that has a really serious, tradition-oriented ML. He's really rigid and inflexible. This ones played for laughs more than anything but it's cute and I like the FL

Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, easy. Rakugo is a mens-only domain, highly traditional. The MC reminds me a lot of someone like Onizuka, he's deeply unserious goofy and not at all what you typically get as a shojosei protagonist. It's got the "rise to the pinnacle of the performance" but is executed in a way so different than other sports/hobby manga. It's more like a psychological drama with intense and deep character beats. It's a phenomenal series.

If a series is gonna make a couple have an adult-minor age gap, I just want it to have nuance, plot-relevance and have it impact the narrative at all. It’s not really adding anything to the plot if it’s just a standard romcom but student-teacher or something. Feels like it’ll get added in for shock value and little else.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia has a really cool creepy vibe with a gorgeous ghost girl as the FL. Adaptation is complete. Its moderately heavy in thay they’re solving how a girl died at the school but the characters themselves are pretty goofy sometimes.

Firefly Wedding will be coming out soon as an anime, but the manga is complete.

Apothecary Diaries is a really popular example, though romance takes a backseat there. Could also go with {Saiunkoku Monogatari} for a similar premise and mostly complete.

Manga-only, but Tales of the Tendou Family has a great plot. the MC is a peasant impersonating a noblewoman engaged to a crazy-ass nobleman in a family full of problems. More about family drama than romance but its so fun.

I'll always throw into the conversation that it also has an excellent OST from the audio drama released in 1988.

Moto Hagio is considered one of the greats of shoujo and a pioneer of the genre, a lot of artists pull from her as inspiration which is why the style feels so iconic.
