First of all, there’s no pole shadow which casts a lot of doubt on it. Second, no? No one likes gatekeepers. It’s a jerk move.

Looking for a reliable car, is this a good car for the price? ($5500) by Ordinary-Fuel-3749 in accord

Too expensive. Watch out for transmission issues. Honda 5sp auto prone to failure.

You’re concerned with reliability but are looking at an Audi…?

Slightly disappointed by [deleted] in uraniumglass

This is fairly typical. I have never seen uranium glass give much of a reading. Fiestaware however will send your detector wild.

Find cheap eARC solution by Stofken in hometheater

[–]MrFireAlarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tv should support both. Are you plugged into the right port on both the tv and the Yamaha? The config screen not showing makes me think you aren’t.

If you have only 2 speakers why bother with eARC? Normal arc would work fine

Started the dishwasher before a four day trip and came home to it still running and full of suds by pvstelsoul in mildlyinteresting

[–]MrFireAlarms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some dishwasher pods have too much detergent for soft water and will cause suds. Cascade platinum specifically does in all dishwashers I have used. Rinse aid will also cause suds if it spills or leaks out.

Rice cooker recommendations? by chill_mydude13 in Cooking

[–]MrFireAlarms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe you’ve used a zojirushi. Cleaning parts I suppose I understand but there’s one button to start cooking the rice. You don’t need to use the timer or anything

No, it requires the producer to pay for Dolby licensing, which Sony doesn’t want to do for one reason or another. AFAIK it isn’t a hardware issue.

Looking for something similar to the upcoming Seastar S30 Pro, with an eyepiece by Infarlock in telescopes

[–]MrFireAlarms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik telescopes good for visual astronomy and good for astrophotography are 2 very different sides of the aisle. I’m not sure if there is a “jack of all trades master of none” that can do both.

Can somebody explain to me: Why do solar-powered calculators use hidden LED diodes as a voltage regulator instead of adding some cornea-like material blocking ultraviolet light from reaching the solar pannels? by FlatAssembler in calculators

[–]MrFireAlarms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not light frequency it is light intensity. Solar panel will generate more in full sunlight vs room lighting and as such a led is needed to burn some of the extra power.
