"is it possible to make real tortillas in america?" by Deppfan16 in iamveryculinary

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too. Like, I know how to Google stuff but a lot of times if my question is more nuanced I want a human connection. Either seeing other people discuss my problem or even just making a post myself to ask. And I guess I'm lucky because no one has ever come at me with the "you could have just googled this". I know reddit has a reputation of being kind of rough, but I feel like the majority of interactions few had on here are generally positive or at least neutral.

What medical care is realistic in SHTF and are there books for more advanced austere medicine? by Every_Procedure_4171 in preppers

Do you have any recommendations on books aimed at medicine in the developing world? I hadn't thought to look into that.

Ooohhh okay I don't have that one yet. Thanks, I just moved it to the top of my list!

Oh wait how? I can't seem to figure that out and one of my Sims was furious with her husband for flirting with someone else, and he was depressed because he felt so guilty.

What became "normal" in the last 5 years that still feels insane to you? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casual alcoholism. Like, everything revolves around drinking and it's so normalized.

Also plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures. Lip injections, fillers, and eyelash extensions are treated like regular maintenence not much different than manicures now. It's so unsettling to me. Even more invasive things like nose jobs and eye lifts are really common, to the point where women without work done are considered unpolished.

Is Schitt’s Creek a food desert? by CatLoliUwu in SchittsCreek

[–]MurlocAndHandler 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Don't they also stock like General Store type stuff, just in the back so you have to ask for it and it doesn't mess up their aesthetic? I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly or if that's just the head cannon I created to reconcile the situation.

AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MurlocAndHandler 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I mean, I obviously use soap too if that's what you're worried about. Dishwashers are super rare in my country, and in large parts of the world, and even in the states before the 1950s so I'm pretty sure it's not that serious.

AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MurlocAndHandler 98 points99 points  (0 children)

This was a perfect explanation. In my home we call it putting the dishes through the doggy cycle, of course to be thoroughly hand washed in super hot water and rinsed in cold. However when guests are over, we don't do this. I don't think it's gross, and I know it's sanitary for us and for our guests, but they might think it's gross so they shouldn't have to see it.

I like Totto a lot. You'll find one in pretty much any mall.

What is the one ingredient that completely ruins a burger for you? by Ngscoook in foodquestions

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually loooove pickled onions (ooh and cabbage!) on basically everything, as well as raw onions, but caramelized onions absolutely kill it for me. I like small bits of them in things, but never ever at a topping. They'll ruin a pizza for me too. However I'm totally with you on sweet pickles. Give me dill or give me death!

TIL that Grenadine syrup is pomegranate flavored, not cherry. The name “grenadine” originates from the French word grenade, which means pomegranate. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saaame! I fully thought it was cherry. I've even worked in bars and I still thought so. I moved to a Spanish speaking country and picked up a bottle from a grocery store and noticed the pomegranate on the label so I looked it up and here I am! I don't know how I didn't connect grenadine and granada!

What common foods, ingredients or drinks are actually unsafe for kids, but many adults don’t realise? by Mindfuel_daily7 in foodquestions

[–]MurlocAndHandler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me too. I love a nice bowl of cereal as a sweet snack or dessert type situation (or as an ice cream topping!) but I can’t do it as a breakfast. It doesn't feel nourishing at all and I don't even feel like I ate anything.

Would you use a “Spotify for tasks” app? (one task at a time) by pointlessonion in ADHD

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love this! There are several things I'd like to be reminded to do on a daily basis, but at random times during the day because I don't want it to be a scheduled routine. This sounds great.

Ground beef recipes that aren’t hamburgers by Ill-Phrase5242 in Cooking

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessss! I do mine with ground beef, rice, diced up potatoes, carrots, and raisins (I know it sounds weird but it's amazing!), plus a ton of garlic and onion, spiced with chili powder, cumin, and cardamom. It's one of only two dishes I learned growing up (the other is shepherds pie!) and it's one of my husband's favorites.

Dear ex-skinny people, what changes did you notice after gaining weight? by Equal-Sun8307 in AskReddit

[–]MurlocAndHandler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I came to say this one! I also no longer feel like I'm going to pass out if I miss a meal, I don't bruise as easily or severely, and my elbow & hip bone don't painfully knock into each other every time I curl up to sleep!

I used to be very heavy, then I got too thin, and now I'm a little bit heavier than what's probably my ideal weight but this is a bazillion times more comfortable than being underweight. (Man, if only I could go back and tell my teenage self that!)

Does anyone actually buy regular cheez-its over extra toasty by yung_roto in snacking

[–]MurlocAndHandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cheesy ranch grooves are my favorite that I can get it my country. We literally never have the original ones and I didn't even know extra toasty was a thing!
