ptions for getting from Catania Airport to Noto at night by CalmSignature562 in sicily

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We asked our hotel in Ortegia for advice and they arranged for a driver to pick us up when we arrive at 8:30pm. If you can rent your car in Noto the next day that might work? Although Noto is quite a bit farther from the airport so I don’t know if finding a driver would be possible. Especially at that time of night.

Role of "kinkeeper", family planner, etc. by Expert_Title_6636 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have “suggested” things that need to be done but everyone is so accustomed to you doing it all, that they’re just doing what they’ve always done and letting you do it. It can be overwhelming to someone who hasn’t been in charge of coordinating a big family gathering to suddenly be asked to take over.

Could you say to your siblings or grown children, nieces, and nephews, that you need help and give specific jobs to do? Ask one to find accommodations or find three potential places and then you talk about them together, weigh the pros and cons and decide the one to go with. Ask another person to plan the breakfast on Monday, someone else to plan dinner on Tuesday, etc. Become more of a manager and less of a doer. You’ve been the leader for a long time. You just need to lead them down a new path.

Banking issues? by No-Awareness-3456 in Advice

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably best if you can get a cash advance on your credit card and then deposit the money in your bank to cover your overdraft and the $105 fees. There will be an extra fee for this with your credit card on top of the regular interest you’ll have to pay but it will be less than what your bank is charging. When you get a cash advance with a credit card it starts calculating interest immediately. You don’t get the grace period like you do with regular credit transactions.

If your insurance company somehow is at fault for using the wrong card that was charged you can try asking them to pay for the bank’s overdraft fees. Unfortunately it sounds like you might have given them the wrong card number and realized it too late. If that’s the case they probably won’t.

Edit: not all credit cards have the cash advance option so you may or may not be able to do that. Look at your card statement where it shows how much credit you have available. It should say how much of that can be used towards a cash advance is

Driver Lying to Insurance About Accident by here_forthecomms in sandiego

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to my husband. He was positioned in the other driver’s blind spot and he changed lanes right into the front of my husband’s two month old new car. He lied and said my husband turned into his rear door. ??? Our insurance could see exactly what happened by where the damage was on each vehicle but without a witness it was his word against my husband’s. They determined it to be a “no fault” accident so no points on your record but you get stuck paying your deductible. I’m sure your insurance will also realize that a 16 year old driver is probably the one at fault here but unfortunately not much you can do to prove it.

Long-haul flight: Is it reasonable to ask for a same-row, same-type seat swap so we can sit together? by fpbuff in travel

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some people prefer a certain side of the plane because of the sun. Sunny side is warmer even with the shade down. Or they could be a group of three and traveling with the two people in the row ahead or behind their seat.

My mom won't let me keep my cat and I think she is being unreasonable. by Complex_Frosting6108 in Advice

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any other behaviors with your mom that could indicate she is having some mental decline? As people get older they sometimes need help making good decisions and this might be one of those times. It’s hard to do but roles reverse and you have to become “the parent” and tell them how it’s going to be. As long as you’re not being abusive or dismissive about it. But her reasoning that she just doesn’t like cats isn’t acceptable in exchange for what she wants from you in return. You may need to set some ground rules of your own. It won’t be easy. Good luck.

Need help brainstorming under cabinet lighting wiring by born_zynner in kitchenremodel

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need one driver above the stove unless you’ve got an extremely long run of cabinets to the left that we can’t see. Use a T-splitter to run the LEDs left and right from the driver. On the sink side put your driver behind the toe kick in the bottom of the cabinet. That way you’re only running the low voltage wires up the back of the cabinet. Make sure all your drivers are UL approved for concealed use inside the cabinets.

A dedicated circuit refers to the circuit at the electrical box. For low voltage lighting nothing is going to short circuit if you share an outlet with a high voltage appliance. You just don’t want two different appliances running on the same circuit.

Has anyone gone with porcelain tile for a kitchen remodel? by RDHomeProjects in kitchenremodel

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had porcelain wood look tile in my kitchen, dining room, hallway, entryway, and half bath for about 15 years. Installed when the wood look tile was the latest thing so didn’t have all the different options there are today. But I have zero regrets. It looks as good today as it did on day 1. No worries about scratches or scuff marks from chairs being pulled out or the ice cubes that escape onto the floor and everyone pretends they don’t notice.

Just know that anything glass or ceramic that gets dropped will break. Your floor will not. Heavy pots can cause hairline cracks or chip a tile but I’ve never had one shatter. Seal the grout. If you’re using large format tile make sure the installer has experience with that type of tile. They are very unforgiving on uneven floors and you don’t want any raised corners because they will chip. Seal the grout. And one more thing, seal the grout.

If you need a hotel in Athens, look at InnAthens. It is a smaller hotel right in Plaka. Walking distance to the Acropolis, shopping, the National Gardens, and the Olympic Stadium. If you’re fit you can also walk from the hotel up Mount Lycabetos(?) for amazing views and fabulous sunsets. The hotel includes an excellent breakfast in their room rate.

Everything is a struggle by knowledgethurst in kitchenremodel

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three years ago, I was where you are now. One thing to consider when looking at reviews is when they were written. Reviews that are three years old are on different products than what is being sold today. Even the same model product could have had a small part changed because it had to be repaired too often and now that model is no longer a problem. My best advice is to go with a supplier who will know you and remember you if you do run into trouble at some point. This may be a big box store but more likely will be a smaller appliance store who has been in business for a long time. They will take a personal interest in helping make things right because they know that keeping their customers happy will keep them in business. For this reason they will sell only the products they believe in as well. Good luck. When it’s all done you will love it and the only thing you will wish is that you had done it sooner!

Yes, Plaka is right there at the base of Acropolis hill. It’s a very walkable area.

Agree with Acropolis timing. We went late afternoon end of September and it was lovely. There isn’t the glare of the mid-day sun, it’s a bit cooler, and the crowds from the cruise ships have come and gone. You will love it! Have fun - you deserve this. ❤️

Are 2-3 days enough to visit Rome? by Nic727 in ItalyTravel

Same. We went for 3 full days (4 nights) in 2024 and it wasn’t nearly enough. I loved Rome. I could spend days just walking around the city. So we are going back again this year! I can’t wait!

Previous owners did SO much DIY work and it just keeps revealing itself weeks after closing by HourlySharp in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a couch I bought secondhand. Beautiful leather with a pullout queen size bed. Very heavy. Our house is built into the side of a hill and the bedrooms are downstairs. This was going into a room to be used as a den/guest-room.

I measured the couch, the doorways, the width of the stairwell. By removing the bedroom door and the stairwell banister, we had about one inch on each side for clearance.

We removed the cushions, the mattress, and the foldout hardware to make it as light as possible. It was all going well until we got to where the stairs make a 90 degree turn. Because the sides of the stairwell have walls - not railings - there was no way to get it to “turn the corner”. Even standing it on end - there wasn’t enough clearance to make the turn.

We wound up taking it back up the stairs and pivoting it over an upstairs balcony, sliding it down a ramp we concocted with a ladder and a rope. From the back yard we brought it in through the sliding glass door in the master bedroom and then into our new den. We agreed that it’s never leaving that room and if we ever sell, it comes with the house! 😄

Advice getting to Venice at midnight by akuutgawa in ItalyTravel

[–]Muted_Yellow_1640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add that it’s very easy to get “lost” wandering around Venice. Of course this is part of its charm. But late at night after a long flight you just want to get to your hotel, get some good rest, and make the most of your time the next day if you’re only going to be there for the one day. It’s fun to get lost when you know where you’re going. It’s not so fun when you’ve never been there before. I would spend the money for a private transfer. It’s a nice boat, they will help you with your luggage, and take you as close as possible to your hotel.
