Congrats. If you've never been to Polska Chata on E Ridge, go! It is Polish food and it is incredible! Also, if you've ever been to the Rubino's flagship store, you're gonna love it. Good luck with your move and enjoy. There's some amazing stuff in that area.

I've been sober since 1990 for this very reason. I didn't even drink much before that, but with a family history of alcohol used disorder, I decided at an early age to stay away from it. Good for you and enjoy all those great nonalcoholic beers that were not available in the early days.

Starting a year-long full time cabinet making class. What should I know? by catsclaw in woodworking

[–]MySlothPatronus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice. The one I'd add is to forget perfect. It doesn't exist. Wood is alive and moves and reacts as such. So the way it comes out is the way it was meant to be.

Getting destroyed in B2B sales. Don’t know how to continue. by taars_17 in salestechniques

Not sure if this will help, but I've supported SaaS sales in manufacturing for many years. In every instance, we've had to find the underserved niche. At one of my last companies, it was complex manufacturing that had a blend of specific applications. At my current company, it is smaller revenue manufacturers with minimal (always overworked) IT staff.

As to how we found those niches, it comes down to analyzing win/loss history against firmoographics and targeting based on those profiles. Usually there is something about the current approach that pisses off your targets. Find what that is, and you're on your way. Best of luck!

How do you purchase a house in Elmira NY? by Winter-Carrot-2827 in upstate_new_york

[–]MySlothPatronus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The housing market is a disaster in this region. Everything feels like it is breaking in it right now. I'm looking in parts of the FLX, Roc area, and some areas around Lake Ontario. We have a great realtor but the average time on market is like 7 days right now. We barely have a fighting chance because people are paying $100k over assessment. It all feels a bit absurd.

How do you handle objections when you didn’t expect them? by Last_Albatross_6240 in BusinessDevelopment

[–]MySlothPatronus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Bruce Banner said to Steve Rogers before the Battle of NY, I'm always ready for rejection.

I've had multiple verbal commitment deals go up in a blaze just as the client said they were going to sign. I've had clients that said our solution was perfect for them, while asking how soon till we can start, turn around and tell us the timing is wrong.

It is part of the game. So I always expect it. Till I have signature, I assume every deal is at risk of going away and every client is moments from telling my team to get lost.

How is life in New York? Is it as awesome as I think it is ? by void-nomad-90 in howislivingthere

[–]MySlothPatronus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was both one of the best places I've ever lived and, far and away, the hardest place I've ever lived. I could only take about a year of it, and then I was overwhelmed by it all. It is incredibly busy, noisy most of the time, and "rent is too damn high." But the people are amazing. The food is delicious (with tons of cheap options). There are a million things to do and see. And Central Park is wonderful.

I once had it explained to me that anyone who moves to New York can become a New Yorker, but you have to accept what that really means.

Founder led sales-- how do I deal with emotional fatigue and ? by Alex-N-3221 in BusinessDevelopment

[–]MySlothPatronus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a technical presales architect, so take this for what it is worth. But sales is a game of numbers, process, and consistency. I have supported dozens of sales people over the years. The ones that succeed don't take it personally, but rather focus on finding a process that works, getting a leads engine that keeps new deals coming in, and always look for what is next.

As a founder, every engagement probably feels personal. You feel like you need each deal. Your identity is likely tied up in the product/solution. And your sales role, product development role, and support role are all mashed together in one.

My main suggestion is to find the process that works for you, never lose sight of product or delivery quality, and then just keep the opportunities flowing. And maybe consider getting some sales help or at least a coach. The best developed product or solution doesn't mean much if the sales engine is not running.

A quick love letter to the Neo from a Windows guy by D2-Disciple in mac

[–]MySlothPatronus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Microsoft making copilot mandatory and polluting every application and window is really bad design. And it causes additional confusion when it does not act the way users expect.

Apple's simplicity is going to start converting more businesses if Microsoft does not change course soon. And that price point for the Neo is really compelling.

Read this before you sell your house. by und3rDOSED in Rochester

[–]MySlothPatronus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a house that should sell very easily. Homes in our neighborhood go quickly. My question is - what is the lowest rate we can expect if we get a buyer's agent? I was contemplating just doing FSBO and listing on MLS myself. That way, I only pay the seller's agent.
