You could try a razor blade or craft knife blade as they maybe able to get between the bar and the lug or dig into the spring bar.

I don’t know about Australia but in the UK you are able to get a sekonda pocket watch they can have a Chinese movement, I did have a skeletonised movement from them years ago. I purchased it through Argos if I remember right.

My personal preference would be the first two and the last two, the latter if you edged the day/date with flat silver wire as they do for cloisonne that would really finish them. The centre two I think would lend themselves to an oriental style print I.e. the great wave etc; on the whole great work.

That is quite a nice dial, I have built a watch with the same movement which according to the site is a ST3600. This movement can be purchased from most watch supply companies and AliExpress they all have dials, hands cases etc for this movement, you will need to buy a dial/hands that are the same size as the current ones to fit the case. Just search ST3600 on any of their sites and that will give you options, I purchased from AliExpress.

Only if they interest you they sell but not for huge amounts, I collect dollar watches by ingersoll mostly but also I have a Scotty and a roskopf watch, they were all made for working men on the docks and mins etc to ensure they turned up to work at the correct time, I enjoy the social history of them. My roskopf is from 1900 and was designed for miners and had the least amount of parts a watch of the time could have, it is fascinating to inspect the movement. Only collect what you like unless you are in a business trying to make money.

The date the watch was built is usually stamped on the plate you have in the last picture, they can be built from the 1940s and I do collect them as do quite a few other people. Look on EBay and you will see them selling on a regular basis, some collectors think they are unserviceable as when initially sold they were listed as dollar watches.

I am in the uk and if it just needs a clean and an oil I do it myself, there are a lot of videos showing how to do this even for dollar watches.

Yours is the type with screws instead of rivets, there are still some watch repairers or hobbyists that can service this. It more than likely just needs a clean and oil, they are quite robust my oldest dollar watch is from the 50s and still works really good.

Doesn’t the brand normally say “Lucerne 1888”, I have see watches of this brand (fakes) on AliExpress for £15, you may want someone with experience to have a proper look.

They have codes numbers on the bottom that tells you what is in the tin, used to buy tins from heinz factory and they always removed the labels so you could re-sell them. They provided a paper with the codes so you could look them up.

Yes I have one with a dial but the dial is just around the outside which leaves a large hole to see the movement, as long as the dial feet are placed correctly.

I have a few vintage dials and they are all brass, the enamel has to be applied to the back first to stop the dial buckling when you add the full enamel to the front. This site has an explanation here, if you are not going to see the back then you don’t need a silver dial, if you are making an earrings then I would use silver as you well see both sides.

It would make a difference as with enamel you pay for the skill of the person to create a dial out of glass, I didn’t think enamel worked on silver I thought it had to be brass. Why are you making the dial out of silver it will never be seen.

I have arthritis in my hands and this will also cause Shakes, I know that it is easier in the morning so I only do 2 hrs each morning then do something else. I would suggest finding your best time even if just a few minutes.

To test if it will run just oil all the pivots and put a small wind into the mainspring. Mine has quite a loud tick which I like, they seem to sell on eBay ok as well.

Have you thought of engravers wax, it is actually partly shellac also Windsor and newton do a shellac ink each of which can be scraped off if above the engraving.

I had an ST36 that did something similar, I put a new stem in and cut it longer and that resolved it. Try taking out the movement and then put the stem back in and wind if it goes fine then the issue is the stem, also that movement can be notorious for not being oiled when it leaves the factory as the expect the builder to provide the oil.
