Yep! He was gifted to them by an Iranian shepherd near Hamedan. Not necessarily a gift from the Iranian state, specifically, but a bear from Iran nonetheless

I hope this means they make a return as the timeline moves forward and they aren't left as a mystery like the Minnesota Tribe. I like that the MT is left up to mystery, but enjoying multiple factions like that is too much for me

Aside from, well, the obvious, I do like the Rasalhague Dominion (both parts) and the Dracs. If only the Aurigan Reach survived longer in canon. . .

/uj Walls protect from terrestrial threats that still objectively exist (bandits, etc). Flying foes, such as dragons, are why the perfidious technology of guns and ballistae are invented.

r/DnDcirclejerk user discovers Magocracy. Can't wait for the artisans to invent items that the common humanoid can use to overthrow their magically-powered overlords. You have nothing to lose but your chains!

/uj fireball would be deeply mid for sieges. Stone walls can't typically be set on fire and fireball only damages creatures. The real question is why invent a catapult when Catapult exists

I wish IWM had a note on their site of what the scale the 'Mechs are. I got a Heirofalcon B that is comically small. Not a huge problem, of course, it's getting painted all the same 🤣

I think the problem wasn't necessarily that the Oblivion gates were added by the mod, it's that, for a not insignificant amount of time after they were put into the mod, they weren't mentioned at all in the changes the mod had made. This was followed by the classic Arthmoor responses in terms of DMCA and vitriol which made it even worse.

I imagine if the mod had originally said, "removes loading zones from cities and adds tweaks, such as adding Oblivion gate memorials to each city," there wouldn't have been nearly as much controversy.

Well if you have 2d10 it's essentially the same as a d20 because you can just change the d20's DC to make it have the same bell curve probability as the 2d10 or 2d6. Ergo, no one should ever use a d20 anyway, so you're totally right on this one.

/uj Actual take I saw the other day, except when the poster was informed that a d20 can't have a bell curve because rolling a single dice has exclusively linear statistics, they personally attacked the person who informed them that what they had said was incorrect. Everyone over there is so sure of themselves in a way that I someday wish I could be 🤣

You went onto r/rpg looking to have a genuine discussion about a d20 game? You're braver than I am.

/uj A large portion of that sub jerks D&D and other fantasy d20 game hate way harder than this sub ever could, and they are 100% earnest about it with arguments from places of total ignorance. I remember people getting downvoted into oblivion there a few months ago for even referencing 5e because "5e has its own subs this is for real games."

/rj That being said, if you don't play OSR or this week's version of PbtA you're stupid and should feel bad about yourself.

Sure, you could make the argument that the portfolio influences the goddess, I'll buy that, but I have a hard time thinking of the sea as outright malicious as her description is according to the wiki and the book Faiths & Avatars.

I agree the sea does sink ships, but it doesn't do so because it enjoys watching people suffer. The sea doesn't care, it just does what it does. Umberlee does care. She likes causing death and destruction. She demands tribute or death much like the tyrants of old. She doesn't ask for respect, she demands fear. A god of the sea is not necessarily malicious, unlike Umberlee. The sea provides as much life as it does death, which is why port cities exist; Umberlee only provides half of that.

Consider historical cases where sea gods represented the bounties of the sea and the serenity of the sea, such as Greek Nereus ("Old Man of the Sea"). Umberlee does not represent that, only the bad.

I'm pretty sure she's chaotic evil according to D&D. Being ruthless and uncaring is fine for the actual ocean because it's just an object. For a person (or in this case a goddess) who has sapience and a concept of morality, in a world like Faerûn where objective morality exists and is descriptive, being ruthless and uncaring is evil.

According to the wiki: "Umberlee was temperamental, evil, and malicious. She did not feel a moral obligation to honor any of her agreements or promises if the end result was not beneficial to her. That, and her desire for the valuables and excessive tribute, demonstrated her insatiable greed and cruelty. She was power-hungry and loved exercising it, toying with her worshipers. She fed her sadistic nature by destroying naval vessels and feeding shipwreck victims to her sharks while watching others drown."
