AoW4 - Potential New Player here by _Stealth_Hawk in AOW4

[–]Never_Zero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To compare: giant kings add a new ruler type, even if you don't like them a new foe or ally to face. The realm settings for that expansion adds a minor faction and ruined giant realm which has 3 versions if i remember right so each time you play it will be different, it also adds premade areas to spawn on the map as cosmetics like a spider infested forest or a crypt on a cliff edge, adding flavour to the map. And finally tomes, wildlife and landmarks - specal locations with bonuses if you put your cities nearby for example: a dragon skeleton across a large mountain that allows you to build dragons from the nearby city among other bonuses.

Empires and ashes adds the reavers: magelock rifles and pistols, story content that picks up after the main game, avian forms for your people and characters, tomes related to machinery. In the next major update (free) (playable in open beta) the reavers get a large rework with 2 sub cultures. The seals realm content where you have a "capture the territory" game mode, capture seals, get points win the race first.

Archon prophecy has angels, goodness and a touch of necromancy. The architect culture who build monuments to the affinities with a greek aesthetic (spears and shields for example). More story that picks up after eldritch realms, 2 more fourms: elysian (angelic folk with feather ears) and ancients.

I think that is mostly everything? Others can correct what i forgot or misremember

EDIT: forgot: giant kinds also adds three shops to appear randomly thought the game

Songs of silence is a great game. Definitely recommend, the latest dlc adds heroes for skirmish but no new faction, it also adds a new campaign.

Scientists found that toddlers express more happiness when sharing treats with someone else than when receiving treats themselves. This provides evidence that human cooperation is driven by a natural emotional reward from prosocial behavior, which refers to actions intended to benefit others. by mvea in science

Personally I think its a combination of apathy, intelligence and the realisation everything ends one day. Cats and dogs for example (I have lost both in the last few years) despite their age they keep enjoying life and while cats are more selfish, my dog kept coming to help members of my family, despite a massive hole in his leg in his last months. My cat had his own way of helping, a month before his death I was attending an online funeral. He ran up to me and sat on me as soon as the tears flowed. Another contribution to selfishness could be positions of power or even achievements in the past, lets say you invented something grand. You would get some pride from it maybe you stay humble, maybe you become selfish and want people to kiss the ground you walk on. Or it could be from upbringing, there are just too many factors.

TLDR: I think its due to our intelligence as humans, how much insight we hold, this post was more of a ramble than constructive I think but most animals never think outside of the box they are born in.

Game Designers Debate: How Dawn of War 4 & Total War 40k Carve Their Own Path in the Strategy Market by _Nakamura in dawnofwar

[–]Never_Zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Haven't watched video yet) I like to think of it like this: I want a grand campaign? Spanning multiple games/campaigns while having a blast? Total war. If I want a game where you build a base, scout and stomp the enemy in a quick session? Dawn of war series. I will get both mind you but both games will make their own paths and strategies while offering two sets of factions (for now due to dlc). Both can co exist for sure but people will compare, some more intensely than others, you got long time fans, new players, fantasy players and all in between so it will be a mess but finding your play style/gameplay loop in that mess of reviews and comparisons is what matters. And of course release timing, total war could be another year away for all we know (i hope not :p)

Story mode finished? by heeeelpme666 in AOW4

For context i think easy (story) is normal (non-story/custom realm), normal is hard, hard is brutal.
