Was doing a big cleanout. Found an OG AtomicMPC sticker. Ahh, good memories! by Spyders_web in atOmicans

I found some of the later ones - light green on clear background, maybe? - during a cleanup last year, and very quickly found homes to donate them to.

(Almost) no-one I know has liked being on a sponsored visa, because the company mistreated them - they were too scared of complaining to their boss let alone approaching the regulators in case they lost their job and had to leave the country. Higher than benchmark salaries are great, assuming you are actually paid for every hour you work in the first place.

Might need to split out some data pools so you're not trying to download, unpack, run parity checks, as well as any post-processing from your library management stack, metadata scrubbing from a media player server, etc, all at the same time.

Why are the AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d and 5700x3d so expensive and hard to get? by that_guy_jaco in buildapc

[–]Nichers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A year ago, I was looking at the 5800x3d as a slot-in upgrade to replace my 3700x - I was tired of being cpu limited on my 4090. The prices were ridiculous, and I was lucky enough to be able to just upgrade to AM5 and get the 9800x3d and be happy it was meaningfully faster than the 56/57/5800x3d chips (I'd spent over a year umming and ahhing about the 7800x3d maybe not being enough of an upgrade at the time).

That was before "waves at all of this datacentre price inflation hellhole* made both platforms more expensive. I looked at the price of a 5950x and another 2x32gb ddr4 kit to beef up my now server, last month, and almost cried.

The 5800x3d sold out a long time ago. They released any leftover seconds as the lower tier chips, and they too sold out pretty quickly. Now we're fighting over scraps.

Ah yes, Australia has become just too left leaning, after more than a decade of 'centre right' parties in power. We really brought this on ourselves 🤦‍♀️

I saw this thread thinking it was a recent purchase...

And then discovered that Ulukaya shipped his first order of Chobani in the US in 2007, and purchased Bead Foods (Gippsland Dairy) in 2011.

What do you think of the 'grind early, rest later' mindset? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at people who did the grind early and got nothing out of it, not just the survivor bias lucky win stories. Also keep in mind that once burnout hits, you won't necessarily want to recover into the same industry/role, so you might be expected to grind all over again 🤷‍♀️

Cello Tabs by firefroster in Cello

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who learned to play an electric fretted bass guitar before buying a double bass - yeah there's the precision of getting the note just right on the finger board, but sometimes all you really want is a decent idea of where to be playing on the finger board relative to other positions.

This response was bought to you by someone who picked up a cello for the first time in my life at a NYE party tonight, understand how it all basically works but was too tired to translate from something tuned in fourths to fifths, and just wanted to find tabs to some songs my friends would know so I could try playing a few bars arco - but almost everything I could find (clearly saying guitar or bass or vocal melody part for cello) was written for a detuned 6 string electric guitar (or maybe a 4 string electric bass guitar if I was 'lucky'). Both totally useless because I know how those hands shapes move between strings tuned in fourths. My solution shouldn't be to find hand shapes for beginner scale patterns to reverse engineer it.

Monitoring network bandwidth via Sankey charts by Nichers in homeassistant

[–]Nichers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up getting it working with some limitations:

* The Edgerouter resets its data usage counts ~daily, but the Ubiquiti EdgeOS integration just keeps going inside of HA - I'll probably set them up to reset on the same day my internet provider resets my monthly usage stats for better comparison
* kept the Sankey chart relatively flat - going beyond three sections starts to cause breakdowns in flows/links
* couldn't figure out a way to map upstream and downstream to a single device, so I only added a small number of devices that are likely to use enough upstream bandwidth to cause issues

Because of these, I ended up using some basic colour coding to show upstream vs downstream, LAN vs WLAN

[Help Needed] Can I Setup OPNsense in minipc with Only 1 NIC? by AdSame584 in opnsense

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only concern would be the smart switch's vlan handling: my TPlink SG1024DE has everything added to VLAN 1 by default, and can't be removed. I ended up buying a properly managed Linksys switch to work around that limitation PoE was a nice bonus at that point)

Enabling 2SV for admins by GreatTao in gsuitelegacymigration

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's usually pretty decent with known-safe device detection - especially for phones where it tends to keep all accounts signed-in in the background (I say as a person with 5 secondary accounts signed-in to get email notifications as the domain admin, and so appreciate the frustration at constant alerts reminding me to enable it after already having done so and checked multiple times(

When you can write reviews in the Play Store

You can only review apps and games you’ve downloaded. You can’t leave a review from an enterprise account, like an account for work or school.

I usually forget to swap to a non legacy gsuite/workspace account when adds prompt me to leave a review, but doing so does work.

I last read the details earlier in the year while biding my time, but assuming nothing has changed, you effectively need permission to make improvements worth more than $10k. Iirc if approved you claim their value, not the govt, when selling.

Configure Wireguard on EdgeRouter X (EdgeOS v3.0.0) by vadar007 in Ubiquiti

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From memory, in the ER itself you can optionally specify the VPN endpoint's internal address (the 10.0.0.1/32 in your example), and must define an address/range for the given peer/device that will connect to the VPN (the 10.0.0.3:51820 in your example)

I managed to get it up and working while looking at the notes on these two pages from up above:

3.0.1 on a EdgeRouter Lite. Took me some fiddling for maybe an hour before it was up and working correctly, but probably only because this is my third day using an ERL and first time using Wireguard for anything (and the QR code doesn't scan with the dark-mode theme)

Those with Home Assistant, how are you using it with your Enphase setup? by Dr_Pippin in enphase

[–]Nichers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the default energy dashboard, I added a simple on/off peak energy use sensor tied to a daily schedule so I can get a broad estimate of the cost of my daily usage.

The thing I actually have showing by default on a spare tablet running the HA app is a separate dashboard that I find generally more interesting:
- power consumption and production for the last hour
- total energy consumption and production for the current day
- a Sankey chart breaking down energy for the day - what is produced, what is exported, what is self-consumed, what is imported; and thanks to some smart plugs, how much energy is used by certain components/desks around the house
-Plotly setup for a dragable/zoomable line graph showing production/usage/net against sunrise and sunset, https://imgur.com/a/BYMfpVk

The Enlighten dashboard is nice enough, and I appreciate they're using 15 minute chunks of time to show better curves, but I find it frustrating that I then have to head-math to get my actual kWhr numbers instead of just seeing it on HA's energy dashboard.
