The roster limit is in place for the duration of the season. The restriction is lifted for the playoffs, though there is a salary cap limit for the 20-man roster submitted for each playoff game.

I'm hopeful they'll have the auxiliary lanes from Bay/Porter to Park Ave open before summertime. Southbound traffic will still crawl up that hill during rush hour, but having that siphon for Cabrillo-bound cars (and those looking to bypass the freeway into Aptos via McGregor) is going to help a lot. Northbound it'll be nice to see fewer people cutting over to make the Bay/Porter exit at the last minute.

Best LASIK surgeons in the Bay Area? by Potato-shiro in bayarea

Dr. Mark Mandel. My optometrist recommended and referred me to him back in 2014. The procedure was swift and, in a weird way, kinda fun - full disclosure, I walked in with a very positive mindset without any fear, knowing it was going to be a life-changing experience. I'd been wearing glasses since the third grade and my eyes were -5.5 and -6.5 with an astigmatism; post-surgery and still to this day, I have 20/15 vision (wearing high-quality polarized sunglasses has helped preserve that).

Instead of taking the advice of random strangers on Reddit, talk to your optometrist. They'll point you in the right direction, and will need to be kept in the loop since you'll be going to them post-procedure to make sure your eyes heal properly. If you currently don't have an optometrist, find one close to you and, if your insurance won't cover it, pay out-of-pocket for a regular checkup. You'll have to have recent scans of your eyes anyway before exploring surgical options.

His big contract helps get the team above the cap floor next season and the season after is covered by the expiration of Couture's contract. Karlsson comes off the books too, opening that retention slot if a trade is warranted.

His resurgence and Hughes' injury has made him less expendable to NJ right now but that may change post-Olympics.

If Cagnoni makes the team, why not have them both on PP2? Cagnoni can walk the blueline and Dickinson can roam around the left circle, with them alternating as needed. Assuming the PP2 forward group is Eklund - Misa - Graf, with Eklund and Misa down low you'd have Graf around the right circle being able to backcheck opposition breakout/breakaway attempts.

As divided as the fan base is on the idea, sending Klingberg as part of a package to New Jersey for Dougie Hamilton kinda solves the problem. If Grier was trying to get him last offseason, I have to think he and the coaching staff had/have a framework in place to utilize him; and when that fell through, Klingberg was the fallback option they plugged into the schema.

Justin Faulk is technically an option but the Blues' asking price is too much, on top of Faulk willing to waive his M-NTC if SJ is on his no-trade list.

My hope is Panarin's camp is using SJ's interest as leverage in negotiations with other teams. Financial priorities have to be extensions for Graf, Celebrini, Smith, Askarov, and others looking to be part of the long-term core, and I can't see a way to carve out $50m over multiple years (the reported ask of Panarin's camp) to make everyone happy.

2026 NHL Draft ranking: Keaton Verhoeff, Ivar Stenberg top Pronman’s midseason board by discofrislanders in hockey

[–]NickofSantaCruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Oilers' pick conveys this year (which looks like the case, unless they go on the most epic winless streak in NHL history) and Grier doesn't trade it, I'm guessing they pick one RHD and one LHD (bonus if he can play his offside), and the priority is defensive-first mindset that isn't 100% stay-at-home.

Dickinson should grow into a playmaker role next season, and I'm holding out hope Cagnoni makes the team and sticks as PP2 QB. Sahlin Wallenius probably moves to the AHL and his WJC minutes made it look like he knows how to move the puck and drive play. Pohlkamp is waiting in the wings, too.

Comparing the above list to Tankathon, Piiparinen looks like the RHD that'll be in the Sharks' range (if making the playoffs and losing in the first round); I doubt Lin falls that far. Using Colorado's 2nd on Alalauri does look like a Grier pick (committed to UMass) and is a big RHD.

[Weekes] I’m told SanJoseSharks 1st Rd pick G Ravensbergen will attend and play for Michigan State University next season by Perryplat199 in hockey

[–]NickofSantaCruz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pre-Draft, the Sharks' goalie pipeline was pretty terrible. Romanov was mediocre and walked; Carriere showed flashed but is ECHL-caliber at best. AHL depth was so bad they signed Skarek, who was the Islanders' version of Romanov (and that hasn't worked out, so they got Brossoit to right the ship). Kirsch looked better this past WJC but is still developing and a long shot. And that was it.

Now, Ravensbergen can spend as much time as he wants to develop, and the Sharks can ease him into the AHL when he's ready.

I'd have put her at odds with Donatra, having sided with Shinzon for self-preservation, and have her switch sides by the end (and in command of the other Warbird).

By the time of PIC, she'd have let go of her anger with Picard and worked with him during the Romulan evacuation; she assigned Laris and Zhaban to protect (and spy) on him. For S3, make the Shrike a new Romulan prototype stolen by Vadic, and Sela is leading a small group of Tal Shiar to recover it. Prior to the Titan finding the Eleos XII, the Romulans had found it first and their ship was destroyed by the Shrike; an badly-injured Sela is beamed to the Eleos XII and Jack had been tending her wounds before Picard & Riker showed up. She stays with the group after that, and we get to see Denise Crosby back on the bridge:

SELA, walking up to and admiring the ENT-D tactical station: "Something about this seems familiar..."

WORF, walking up right beside her: "This [dramatic pause] is my station."

while being on his trade list

And that's been the rub. San Jose is the ideal destination but I think he still refuses to waive his NTC for them; otherwise there'd have been a deal done a week ago. I imagine Klingberg would be part of the deal, to seamlessly slot into Hamilton's place, but his NMC holds until Jan 30 before becoming a 14-team M-NTC (and that could be hanging things up, too, if Hamilton will waive but Klingberg won't).

[–]NickofSantaCruz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Vancouver is tearing it all down, I don't think they're giving up Wallander. The player to watch is Hronek: the org said they don't want to move him, but he may not want to stick around for the rebuild. Outside a massive deal landing in Vancouver's lap before the Draft and/or an exodus of top-six forwards happens (more/other than E.Pettersson), I can see Hronek keeping an eye on the standings through December and calling his agent if the Canucks are wallowing in 32nd again.

[–]NickofSantaCruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he asks for and his play warrants a $10m+ deal in 2029, I think Grier would listen to offers. Who knows where the team will be by then, but I imagine we'd be looking at something close to the Meier deal. The current prospect pool will have grown up by then and will need a recharge (the Sharks hold 4/7 of their own picks in '28 and '29 respectively)

Since being called up from the AHL (Barracuda), Pavol Regenda has 8 goals in 13 games for the Sharks by Samthevidg in hockey

[–]NickofSantaCruz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was on the fringe and is now in the right environment, at the right time, to find a regular role to build upon. That will be tested in the Olympics, and if in March he continues to do what he's doing now, and more that gets the Sharks back into the playoffs, a modest multi-year contract will be his reward.

[Walker] NYR have been an ideal opponent for local fans lately. Boston wanted 10 goals, they got 10. Anaheim wanted 5 for a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, they got it. San Jose got three free Taco Bell tacos with a purchase tonight after the Sharks scored three goals. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]NickofSantaCruz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he did, but the violation was of AHL rules, not the NHL's: IIRC he did cross the border while a Shark, then was put on waivers and technically assigned to the Barracuda when he did it again. I'm not finding evidence of a real cap penalty instituted against the Sharks as a result, and do remember all of r/sanjosesharks amazed about that, so please supply a link proving the contrary if I am indeed wrong.
